Here's the thing, it nearly did happen.
When MJ decided he wanted to come back, of course he was discussing this with Phil, as his biggest motivation for returning was he believed he still had something he could contribute to the game. By joining Phil, the plan was to use his knowledge and experience to help a young Lakers team to championship victory. Unfortunately, (depending on which way you look at it), The Lakers won the championship in 2000, so there was no longer any reason for him to still join.
MJ's motivation was always to help a team to championship victory, not join a team who were already champions.
However, still wanting to play and to give back to the game he loved, he decided to stay at The Wizards, as this also allowed him to appoint a coach that he trusted and respected, that being, his other Chicago Bulls coach, Doug Collins.
In other words, if the Lakers hadn't won in 2000, MJ would've joined Phil at The Lakers and MJ would've played alongside Kobe and Shaq.
Lebron has no real skillful talent, he is a football player in basketball shoes, people just to scared to say it... he just a regular average lob dunking transition roll player... i can debate anyone anywhere anytime on this subject...
