The EARTHBENDING VR game deserves better.

- If you’ve ever wanted to FEEL like an Earthbender from Avatar: The Last Airbender, no game comes THIS close to fulfilling that power fantasy. From its incredibly immersive control scheme, to the hidden complexity of its physics-based mechanics, this game undoubtedly deserves your attention.
But for as much praise as this game has received, I think its popularity is severely held back by one crucial flaw. Which we will talk about.
You see, Rumble VR is one of those games that takes full advantage of motion controlled inputs. Similar to how in Broken Edge, you have to strike a character specific pose to activate your abilities, the same is true here. There are no buttons to push, only physical gestures to perform. Except, unlike Broken Edge, every player has the same move set and inputs, making for, in my opinion, a much more balanced experience. Although, that doesn’t necessarily mean EASIER. You’ll find that these moves require an intense level of accuracy and focus to input properly. SIMILAR to flatscreen fighting game inputs, these also require you to be decent at memorizing patterns, but UNLIKE flatscreen fighting games, the slightest deviation in your wrist angle or body position will have helplessly flailing your arms in front of you while your opponent hurls stone slabs at your head.
This need for near perfect physical accuracy means that, similar to a real life sport, hand-eye-coordination, repetition, and muscle memory are the keys to consistent results. If you’re having trouble performing a specific move, the only real solution is…practice. Thankfully, a lot of the moves are intuitive to remember. Summoning a wall has you lifting your arms straight up, throwing a disk has you making a circular motion with your arms, punching any rock surface feels like…well, punching. So even though remembering a bunch of specific gestures in the heat of battle sounds difficult, well it is, but its not impossible. Soon you’ll be able to execute moves faster than the game can keep up with. But the winner is rarely decided by who can spam moves the fastest, it comes down to who can use the right moves at the right time in the right way.

The skill ceiling and evolution of this game is insane. Seeing people do basic earthbending at first and then watching the community evolve towards *FLIGHT* is actually insane. This game is goated with so many little techniques or combinations that it’s truly a unique experience.
I completely agree! It’s so empowering!
yea but the user base is so small right now can't find a match, really want other vr players in the game.🥲Maybe for a while if the devs make it free people might play it.
flight isint the only thing
Flick went from useless, to a literal separate skill tree with like almost 50 techs, if you do flick tech, you can basically kill instantly any low mountain of less
@@ExtreptococosPsiconeuroinmunoe a a Pearson with 200 hours in Rumble flick is definitely not low tier but it is a fun move more than anything. That's fine I'm one of the people that actively use flick, but I don't think its in the meta. it might be with shoeless's devotion to it, But it will only be for shoeless. idk why I wrote this please use flick but never expect to get a lot out of it. shoeless makes out look easy and its fun but not necessarily good
The skill ceiling is still evolving, Flick: the highest level move was deemed useless until recently when people started experimenting and finding insanely high skill techs.
I wouldn’t say recently. Most of the stuff in the video you probably just watched about flick happened months ago. What’s recent right now is new disc flight techniques.
@@lucasjedi2449Wait disc flight???
Cheers for the shout-out! If you ever need a sensei just let me know ;) P.S. as a long-time viewer gotta say the new branding looks sick!
Yo thank you so much for watching and commenting!! :)
I mean I can always use one XD of ofc I'm kidding
Even though the player base may be smaller than the game deserves, this is one of the best communities I’ve seen so far. Every game I’ve been in with a black belt (I’m yellow rn) and I’ve been messing up my moves, they would always take the time and help me get better, and show me different combos I didn’t know existed. Great community for a greater game
I just picked up the game myself.
I earthbending is so cool 😂. And I was shocked at how low the player count was. I couldn't even matchmake without moving to areas with more ping
However, when I did start meeting people, they were all very friendly and eager to teach me.
I really hope this game gets a larger player base in the future. It's incredible.
i actually like the fact that you need to wait between matches and i absolutely love how hard it is in the beginning. this keeps people who have no patience and can't handle frustration away from it. and the few times that no one is on the servers at all, i just train some combos
fuck that. some people have lives and cant afford to wait around for extended periods just to get a chance to have a match
@@demonz9065 if you don't find a match while you have time, you can just train some moves. no need for waiting around.
@@demonz9065 if you don't find a match, just train a bit. there's no need for waiting around. since it's not an easy game, you have to train the moves anyways.
@@fhcsghgggfghghhggg4566 i do train a lot. but that's nothing compared to the experience you gain fighting against a person. the training bot is only good enough to improve you until youve unlocked everything, and also im playing the earth bending fighting game to fight people. not train endlessly
@demonz9065
I agree to an extent. But waiting 5 minutes for a match isn't long for starting stages or the middle stages when you're building up the movements and practicing execution.
And in the end, if you're trying to get good, you'll likely need to sink more time into solo training rather than fighting other people. Most sports are like this and I understand how it can be frustrating to a gamer but a 5 or even 10 minute wait in between matches is honestly a little short.
Put in gaming terms the skill floor is very high and so playing against other people is closer to a break between practicing sessions rather than a learning opportunity.
Can't believe i missed this video when you posted
I love how at 5:07 the black belt just stopped spawning blocks and would just move around to dodge
What’s cool about the inputs is that it requires you not to panic. You have to hold your ground like a real earth bender and not flinch. Perform the move and believe in your bending to defend yourself
Just found your channel dude and I am hooked, have 5 games that look incredible in my steam cart for next pay day thanks to you! 😁😭
Thats awesome, glad i could help! Thanks for the comment :)
Just add feet tracking and the amount of different things you could do would be insane
The Boulder has Conflicted Feelings
They should make a waterbending, firebending and airbending version
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS FINALY RECOGNITION ! TOP VR GAME RIGHT HERE
Listen, the SECOND this game is in the meta store I will run to buy it
I wonder if there would be different devs who focus on different elements and go together in a final game mash up type beat
I have wanted rumble to come to quest for a very long time now. Like you said, I just don't feel that it is worth it to wait for my dad to not be using his computer, connect my quest to it via steam link, have horrible latency and battery usage, and then have to wait for 10 minutes to actually get into a match. I also think that adding it to quest would get them a lot more money, allowing them to invest in a server system, which would remove a lot of lag. That makes it sound like I don't like this game, but this is by far my all time favorite game in the universe, I just feel that the devs need to stop feeling bad for the pc players, and instead get more players to actually play their game.
I bought it through the Meta store. I'll plug in as long as needed but the moment it goes standalone, I'm ready
I've been looking at this game since 2022 and I REALLY want to get it, but I REALLY didn't want to play through PCVR even though I could. I completely agree with you on this video. It would be amazing to see all four elements from avatar the last airbender.
Thanks for making such great enjoyable content VB. I really enjoy sitting down and relaxing while watching your videos. I hope your videos take off and succeed :)
Thank you so much, that makes me really happy!!
I never really had the issue of not many people playing. I also seem to be coming acros people with my own level and even lower. However it indeed does take a minute or so to get into a match at times, which can be a little annoying yeah
You know what would be crazy, a probending game.
If this hit quest 3 I would never leave vr
What makes you sore? me directly 😐👂 : GORILLA TAG
i like how the game is only on pc as it has a more mature and friendly player base
Looking forward to this if it makes it to Quest!
Back before the quest two was a thing they said they would look into it and now with the quest three it’s still not available😢😢
@@VrIndieGamesthey said they would "look into it" back then. Now they have looked.
They are confident that it will be on quest at some point. All new updates are optimized a LOT for quest performance to ensure that all they will have to update is the older stuff
Whats the name of the song in the beginning?
Ok now like imagine an update where they add another element that you can choose
as a mountain level (Black belt) rumble player i can say for sure that they will never do that unfortunately, the entire game is 100% centered around rocks and such, the first thing you do when you enter the game is calibrate your height with a stone statue, and then they use mountains and earthquakes to transition into the game, inside the game almost every menu is made of stone signs and such, and the ranking system is earth themed too, pebble being the lowest rank and mountain being the highest, and the creators even advertise the game as "earth powered martial arts"
plus other elements wouldnt work in the game unless the combat system was heavily reworked, like nothing is stopping an earthbender from fully blocking any attack from the other elements with a wall and the other elements would be able to do nothing about it, and also a big part of the game is being able to use your opponents projectiles and even the walls they use for protection against them, which wouldnt work anymore with more elements
and its called rumble too, a word usually associated with things like earthquakes and rock slides and such
i do hope other similar games get developed tho, multiple element fighting could be awesome, but it just wouldnt work with this specific game
@@masterofmadness4821 well now what im thinking is 5 separate games specialized for each element and then one game where its just all 4 of them together in one game
@@nightmareunleash3402 yeah, that could be cool, i have an idea for an airbending one, i have no idea how to code tho, so if i ever learn how i am making it
@@masterofmadness4821 i feel like airbending would be the hardest to make seeing as what exactly are you going to attack eachother with? Unless it leans way more into like a sumo match of the only win condition is getting flung out (i think rumble has both a kill and out of bounds win conditions but ive never played the game so i forgot)
@@nightmareunleash3402 i was thinking there was no damage/health system and you just have to knock the opponent off the arena, the hard part would be the actual bending system
i think this games problem, is that what people really want is a full on VR avatar game, kinda like this, open world rpg like or something. atleast thats what i wish for, but with these kind of mechanics. graphically also fine for that.
I cannot imagine being a new player and fighting a pc exclusive veteran
My guess is its more of a "finish the game before exoanding the audience" situation. Don't get me wrong, as a quest player, id love to be able to play this game. But in order to have an audience, you must be able to keep an audience, and the game needs more systems in place to help with that.
I agree I WANT A QUEST PORT PLEEEEASE 😢😢😢😢😢
I've had this game and it makes me so sad that nobody is ever on
I really want to play it but I can’t connect to pc :( it really needs to come to quest
As much as not having the quest release sucks for a lot of people, I think that the devs are making the right choice. Their goal right now is NOT to just increase the player base and make a lot of money, it’s to make the game way better based on feedback from those of us who have played this game for hours and hours, learning each of the bugs, mechanics, issues, etc. Plus getting into games isn’t that difficult once you’ve joined the discord servers
a lot of us in the community have made many videos of rumble, with many different goals for each. Ulvak streams matches for hours, BIVN does that and some guides, Rumblekai has pose guides, runs the discord server, shoeless (mentioned in the video) really dives into the complexity of rumble. I also have a shorter video for people who aren’t sure what experiencing rumble would be like where i talk about some of the major parts of the game.
They should make the game be on the Meta shop so I and more people can play it😊
You think they would be working day and night to get this up and running on quest, the biggest vr market there is!
Well... it's early access. When they finish the game and do a full release it will definitely be on quest. All new things they add are done with quest in mind.
If they added on quest 2 there would be so many kids but it grow like crazy I think
They said they're working on making it quest compatible. Can't wait, I want to play it with my friends that don't have PCs but have VR headsets
Wait but it is on oculus store? Idk if that just means it can run on pc and not the quest but it’s on there
1:12 Gorilla Tag, which is usually because I play it for the entire time my battery will last.
Edit: Might buy this game if I get too impatient for it to come on Quest since it looks really fun, and I think that will be soon. (me buying it not it coming on quest)
Can this be played on Meta Quest 2?
I asked because of modding
7:47 this problem is solved with steam link and steam vr on headset and pc respectively. Thank you valve for not making me but a cable
Please let this come to quest 👏
i count as old people, never felt so proud of being a minor but being old too
Song name at the beginning?
Where do you download this game?
How old I get it or is it not on quest 2 I looked it up in the store I don't think I did on side quest tho
is this only for meta quest 3?
I wish I could play It saddens me that it is not on quest
They need a native quest version. Streaming to the Quest is not great with all the latency. And many people just don't do PCVR at all.
Cool new intro (virtual) bro
nice Earthbending game. although i hope they'll add more elements, like paper and scissors
🤔
THIS GAME NEEDS TO BE ON OCULUS AND NOT JUST STEAM VR
I can’t play it on my quest 3😞 why?
Completely agree! Love this game but never play it... Needs a quest Port
where do i get the game?
How do I find it on vr
is it possible to get into this game as a new player?
Yes but take into account the player base and learning curve.
Ask yourself two questions before buying.
1 do I want to wait in matchmaking
2 do I like things that are difficult to learn.
Is this game on oculus?
Game?
Can you play Thai on quest 3
Why is it not on meta quest
Thats why you got steam link
Is this game on quest2
Bro did you watch the video at all?
I genuinely despise this developer for making people think that they would ever release a quest version. It’s been three years and not a damn word about a release for the quest.
1:10 yep, gorilla tag
Is it free?
No
To make a quick point, yes the game community is rather small, however in the official and unofficial discord servers there are loads and loads of people willing to help, play with, or teach any new player. Like literally the whole community is awesome, and if you ask someone to show you a move in the middle of a game, or to go easy, 90%+ players will do it.
absolutely. it's the best game community i know. everyone knows how hard it's been in the beginning and therefore everyone is patient with new players and helps them. even experienced players teach each other new moves. The first time i saw someone fly, i asked them how they did it and they taught me how it's done. I hope quest release won't change this
lots of them are waiting for Quest release as well
Playing with airlink on quest 2 and having a blast. Will happily buy a second copy on the quest store to reduce latency if I’m still invested at that time
100% true the community is the best I have ever been part of everybody is so accepting and willing to teach new players.
Everyone is not only willing to teach, but excited to. Fantastic community
It's worth noting that the game is still in Early Access, so it makes sense to keep it PC exclusive until they finish the game. People playing it right now are, essentially, beta testers. If they launch the game on Quest right now, there's a risk of it flopping (or at least, the devs likely perceive that), because the game isn't where they want it to be yet. The Quest audience is huge, so they want to have the best launch on Quest possible. If it flounders on Steam, it's not like there were more than about 4 million possible sales there to begin with, while on Quest, there's >20 million.
So I think you'll just need to be patient. When the release version comes out, I'm sure it'll hit Quest shortly thereafter, and you'll see the player count explode.
Have they talked about where they want the game to be in the future? Like vision wise, I honestly don’t see where else they could go.
@@puperman4208 what do you mean you dont see where else the earth bending game with a short move set could go? more gestures for starters could be an option. or more game modes. its a video game. it could go wherever

Some people may have commented essentially this, but I'll drop my two cents really quick. As someone who's played Rumble a lot (450 hours), the biggest problem with the game is definitely the progression and the content, not the lack of a Quest version or player base. As is, the game essentially ends once you hit black belt, other than extrinsic rewards. For some, getting better and training will keep them going, but for many the lack of actual content will, and has, turned them off. This wouldnt change if a quest port dropped today.
It makes more sense, in my opinion, to update the game, and get it to the point that it's better at retaining players than to hard focus on a quest port, release it, and end up with half or more of those new players leaving after they get black belt (essentially the game's end state currently).
We've had surges in the player base in Rumble before, and they’ve followed the trend of a few days or a week of a ton more players and then back to 15 people online. Id hate for the quest version to essentially become the same story if it was released too soon, before the game feels more complete for a large portion of players
But, anyway, I'll see you on the battlefield when the quest port drops, or if you ever feel the hankering to pop back on despite. Thanks for covering the game!
But it’s a Competitive fighting game, what content should they add? A story mode, a few more moves? I think a strong player base needs to be first
@@anthraxcrab2222 unlockables, a better ai fighter to train against, more maps, and shift stones (the equipables that allow you to transform the move set with new moves or enhanced moves). Which are all exactly what they're working on
I think a proper ELO (or similar) ranked mode (which would become feasible with a high enough player count) would be a good driver to keep people playing. Chess has been going for ages like this.
I believe a cool shiftstone would be being able to combine different objects together, for example, an object that’s similar to eachother, like 2 cubes, could then be combined to create a pillar, as an example.
glad people are finding this game it seems like a lot of new creators are looking at it.
Better you focus one plattform and port the finished product, especially when u are a small studio, it sucks to dance on two partys.
0:55 is the kind of moment that hooks you on a game. I can’t wait to get VR and try this game out
Rumble exclusively is not the problem of rumble.
And by adding it in quest store you wont solve the problem
THE problem of small player count - that usual player will immediately drop the game because of frustration, after trying to summon disc for 20 minutes in tutorial zone
So basically how fighting game basically have small community of player after initial hype cause people stop after a month. I remember my friend complaining how mortal kombat 1 playbase just disappearing after 6 months.
new intro got me feeling something 🕺🏻
You get xp for winning or losing. You get the moves way faster than you think. You can get max level in about 30 matches or 70ish is you NEVER win.
The quest can't handle this game currently, but it's not because of the graphics. Its literally everything else that was programmed before the quest was even a thing. It was made for pcvr because that's what people played at the time.
The time between matches is the perfect time to practice and I never have to wait more than a couple minutes if that to find a match in the US east server.
I make some tutorials for RUMBLE.
This game is VR done right!
This game feels SO good, and it's definitely been my favourite since its release!
Thanks for bringing it to more peoples attention👍
From what I can find it uses Unity just like a lot of other standalone VR games do. The quest 3 and even 2 should be able to handle this game. I feel like saying it can't is just spreading misinformation. Unless you have actual evidence this really isn't helpful. The hardest thing for the quest would probably be the physics and not how it's programmed and if it is the programming it'd be something the devs would need to fix in C#. The are many standalone VR games made with Unity that uses C# so I can't understand why you're saying that it's how it was programmed like devs can't ever change the programming in their own game.
@@callum2492 still, if the devs didn't have quest in mind when developing it, it will take a good amount of time to make it playable on quest.
@@fhcsghgggfghghhggg4566Yeah, for sure but that'd be the same case for porting a game to anything. Just saying that "The quest can't handle this game" isn't really correct. It kinda feels like someone saying for example that Half-Life 2 couldn't run on switch. It could but it'd need some work before it's actually ready to be played on it. It doesn't feel like the original comment was talking about a port since they said that it couldn't handle it rather than run on it and at that point it's just pointing out the obvious. If the comment was just saying that it'd take time to port the game over to a new platform then I could understand it more.
@callum2492 I am 1 of 4 moderators for the official developers discord server. I have spoken to the developers directly on many occasions. They tried to run the game on the quest, and it wasn't even slightly playable.
Yes. One day they will put the game on quest. But the game currently isn't even playable at a low framerate. It DOES NOT run on quest is not a lie, nor a stretch of the truth.
By your logic I can safely land a front flip off of my roof. Because sure it would take some work to build upto it and get there but I could one day after enough practice I could achieve that goal.
That is not how people talk about capabilities in real life haha
@@sdrawkcabmiay I'm mostly going off of the wording of "The quest can't handle this game currently" not that it doesn't run on the quest. I understand that part.
If it's the first quest headset then I could understand why it wouldn't work but you haven't even said what quest headset it was tested on. Are you saying it wouldn't even run on the quest 3? Also as I just said my main issue was you saying "The quest can't handle this game currently" and that sounds to me like you're saying that the quest can't handle it rather than the game hasn't been optimised for the quest yet. It's definitely within the realm of optimisation for something like the quest 3 and maybe the quest 2 but I'm a bit more sceptical about that one.
All ports take time and aren't instant so that entire flipping off of a roof thing was just weird to bring up. No one was talking about making the game instantly appear on quest or anything and that's why I said it'd take time. Also yes people do talk about capabilities like that in real life but not to the extent of flipping off of a roof. People set goals for themselves all the time and work towards them so don't go off topic randomly.
"The quest can't handle this game currently" isn't the same as "It DOES NOT run on quest" currently(felt like I should add the currently at the end). Most games would struggle on quest if there wasn't enough optimisation done during the porting process and this is why it takes time. I was never demanding it to be done right away nor am I saying that it needs to come to quest at all. These are decisions for the devs to make. All I want to do was make sure people don't get confused due to your comment saying that the quest couldn't handle it.
The thing is that the current team exists of 4 students friends so not a big group
I loved this game but ran into the same problem as you. There are downsides to being on quest though. Gorilla tag had an amazing community that got absolutely ruined. I doubt that would happen with this game above a low rank though, gorilla tag has no ranking system soo!

Honestly i got this game on PC thinking that I will be replacing exercise with this, but being a Singaporean user I genuinely cannot play it due to ping :(
You kinda don't need other people to teach you, shoeless made a whole skill tree for you to learn. But yes, you need someone to try it on other that the practice robot
Is there a way to get this on Oculus? I’ve been wondering this for a while but nothing comes up when I look for it on the quest shop
Awesome
Now where's the full Avatar game where you can pick one of the four elements?
I want firebending vr pvp
Quest development gets considerably more difficult even when the game is already fairly simple graphically. Content development on games from smaller studios (A Township Tale comes immediately to mind) slows down drastically as more time needs to be put into optimizations for the game to run smoothly on the hardware. While it would be great for the game to come to quest asap, it’s probably for the better that Rumble stays on PC for now while they develop features they believe will be more valuable to the core experience of the game before digging into the beast that is Quest development.
I remember seeing about this game and watching videos about it back in around 2020 or so and I was so excited and I will be here to support you all the way

What I am assuming the developer meant was that they want to update the game on PC as optimized as possible before working on porting them to other platforms. Given Sony's infamous update times I assume its to allow the best version of the game to be available before they are allowed to send in new updates. The game has been on my wishlist for a while but I do intend on getting it one day
Oh yeah, all the new content is being done in a very optimized way so that the quest will be able to handle it. Eventually once they've all the new stuff they want they will be updating the old parts and when they do those will be optimized too(since they started making the game before quest was even a thing)
