Also, little tip, don't despair at scarab rushes. A lot of people who try using scarabs have a habit of abandoning all other units. They'll send just a scarab and expect it to crush you. In this scenario, you want to spread your units in a circle, and make the scarab dance. Start moving units this way and that way, make sure the scarab is always turning, and you should find it relatively easy to, if not destroy, at least delay the scarab long enough for you to make counter units for it
Another very useful thing is the attack > move command. In Halo wars 2, units do not override their attack command when you issue a move afterward. In other words, they do not forget what they were shooting at. This is very useful when attacking bases if you want to focus certain building while circling the base. You will notice your units keep firing that building (as long as within range) instead of scrambling the command and picking a new target.
I'm glad you guys made this video, these are really important concepts not only for lower ranks, but also as important reminders for the higher ranks. I end up slacking on my dancing sometimes and in onyx, that'll cost you the game if you're not prepared. Great vid fellas!
Awesome video, guys! Few notes: "Dancing" is commonly called pullback micro. Unsure if there is a common name for what you called sniping, but generally sniping is focus firing down one key unit. Would be great to have a vid on concaves, chained abilities, splitting, and dodging!
Do a video on whats the best unit counter to another unit and best army compositions in certain situations to add to this instructional series please. Thanks
Your Channel is awesome for the community and the only reason i would say that i am any good at this game. Thanks for helping us enjoy the game more. 2 questions, I cant tell if counter units (elite rangers) will by default target their counter (infantry) of do i have to micro that. Second, there are more than 2 people listed on your channel, are you just the only 2 of your crew that play halo wars?
As a pc player and ex-Xbox player who plays this game and is onyx it’s a strange concept to do rts on consoles, I play Starcraft which is very macro and micro intensive so at first I thought it wouldn’t work due to the limits of a controller but to my surprise I am amazed at how they implemented it so well. I love these console players only just discovering the basics of micro and macro. I’m happy the rts community has some new players and I welcome you console players, rts needs everyone it can get and with consoles involved hopefully it will reform to the glory of a community that isn’t 2 people
Wanted to let you guys know I really appreciated the video. I've been looking for something like this for awhile, glad it showed up. I would like you to go in-depth on more micro concepts, it's part of my game that is lacking. (Although I'm not that good in the first place.) Specifically though, how do you make your units attacks while retreating? I've been getting wiped by locusts outrunning my army while still shooting, but I can't seem to replicate said tactic in-game. Keep up the great content.
Certain units cannot attack while running away. I suggest sacrificing a small group of units, so you can run the rest of your troops out of the area. -Nick
Noob question, is healing a unit still one possible way to earn veterancy? Regardless of whether it is or not I don't see the point in putting a ton of effort into dancing units around if I do not have access to healing for whatever reason. Of dancing is sometimes required in order to make sure you still have control, but overall is it worth putting more attention into dancing or managing resources in your opinion(s) if you do not have access to healing units/ powers? What is the best application for all of my one shot micros lol?
It's cool seeing different types of micro used in console RTS. I haven't played too much of the multiplayer, but is it correct to assume unit stutter stepping isn't a thing? I don't think units can reset their animations with quick micro as per what I saw. Also, does splitting really matter? Again, I haven't played too much of the game so I haven't seen much AOE come out. I guess you can use it for better positioning, but not too sure if it's worth oding
Ian Espiritu marines would be great with attack animation cancel I tried and I think it might work with the cyclops. Hw2 lacks an attack move button anyway lol
Dear Btc, My advice is to not do the grouping tutorial at all, Grouping is mostly used to get between your scouts before the 8 min mark in games. The fact is with leader powers microing with groups takes up to much apm to become useful or needed in any way, furthermore in head-on engagements using grouping to micro back all of 1 unit type will not secure you the advantage. The way that grouping would be useful is in a situation where you have a group of units lets say odsts and you just used the bombs on the opponets main, you run them away and then group them so you can quickly get to them on the map after macroing your army. Trying to force some micro use for them in combat will not be beneficial and should not be told to the type of audience you are trying to help. But this is just and opinon. - Pattymac
I see your objection to the creation of the video, but I think I will make the video just to show how to use it. This would leave it up to the player to determine the usefulness of the tool. I personally think that it's useless. - Nick
Hey guys, I have a question about using cutter in this game. I know a lot of people say he is somewhat obsolete because of Jerome, but I found this unit mix that I've been doing really well with. It's 6 warthogs, 6 cyclops, 3 hornets, 3 falcons, one vulture, and the rest marines. I don't think I discovered a new meta or anything, but could someone explain to me why a unit mix like this would work?
I think it's very important to note that dancing certain units is not as worthwhile. As infantry squads lose health and subsequently squad members, they lose DPS. As a result, dancing them and having them move to the back without firing and losing several squad members is sometimes not worth it; you're just reducing the time that unit has higher DPS.
legofan3225 It can also play into mindgames as well as distraction. If the enemy sees you have a larger amount of units they may decide to retreat. If not they may decide to attack the lower health units in order to reduce your numbers as it may get frustrating to see your army lose more units than the enemy, therefore keeping more units at a higher health and able to soak ability damage if the enemy decides it must come to that.
heres a video idea, when rushes go wrong. alright I'm starting to rush(its hilarious going up to a base with goliaths and they have no troops) well being I'm new to rushing I sometimes wait a bit too long and they have a sizable force of stronger units, so how do I recover from a failed rush
A random elite tips rush at the 2/2:30 , retreat if you are that are prepared for a rush, don't over commit to the rush continue building up your main while you're atracking.
I'm interested in your guys involvement in the competitive Halo Wars community. My buddy and I were very serious about competition in the early stages of the game but alas haven't found any info on such. Plus the monthly seasons keep it difficult to hold OnyX/Champion ranks. Would be down to play a few games with you boys hmu GT: Drexzel

Isaac Campos I new that was true in the first game but in this game it seems a lot more inconsistent

Hey! I asked for some basic tips a couple episodes ago and you guys did it! Thanks!
Do a video on whats the best unit counter to another unit and best army compositions in certain situations to add to this instructional series please. Thanks
For a second, I misread the title as "Micro Transactions"
I really appreciate these videos man! I just got Halo Wars 2 and I've been watching all of your videos
I wish marines still had combat medic upgrade. You could really get milage out of them
What... The stil have that upgraded dude
@@casual1908 no Im talking about from hw1
@@casual1908 They have combat engineer, not combat medic.
finally got my gaming pc excited to play this again and start watching you guys more often :D
What’s your specs my good sir? I myself am thinking about building a computer
Can you do a video on unit veterancy pls
this would be nice to have
Units gain veterancy when they Hold still like kodiaks are very likely to gain veterancy

I've tried with marines and other units and I can't tell if attack animation cancelling works or not. Definitely use it in Starcraft 2 and such
And the aoe is mostly leader powers like the eradication and mac blast and such
yeah my background is much more SC and halo wars 1 so I was just wondering what shenanigans I could reuse from SC and port into HW2
Ian Espiritu marines would be great with attack animation cancel I tried and I think it might work with the cyclops. Hw2 lacks an attack move button anyway lol
Can you dance with air units?
I struggle with grouping so looking forward to that!
thank you very much!

RT+Y for units selection... whats your opinion?

Focus fire is less important for marines because killing a single marine out of his squad decreases DPS.
