  • Roger Glover describes the importance of Ritchie Blackmore in the writing and recording process for RAINBOW. Both Joe Lynn Turner and Roger highlight the significance of Ritchie's input with the direction the band took through those classic Rainbow albums. The band had just recorded 'Straight Between The Eyes in 1982'.

well they were not that unified, ROSENTHAL and BURGHI were part of the following album, musicians lied so much to the fans that is insulting at times, they were all waiting for PURPLE to reunite because that was real bussiness, they did 2 great melodic rock records before that.

Do you think there was already talk of a Deep Purple reunion in 1982 in the background?

@@tazenda2P yes but they coudn't, Paice and Lord were in Whitesnake, Gillan was in SABBATH, BLACKMORE wanted a reunion with IAN that is why he had arguments with Coverdale, so they had to wait for everyone to finish thier contracts, RITCHIE never tought he would sell with Turner as he did. So they waited for the right moment

There ain't no too much good things to say about SBTEyes album. 50% in it is pure crap.

It was an easy album because it was utter rubbish. When you look back and listen to Dio in the albums. Then the rest after that apart from Bonnet were in my opinion not worth cutting. How can you make a song like Stargazer then have songs like Tite squeeze? Maybe Dio was missed with his talent in writing songs. Blackmore yep he could play, Cozy drum Bonnet as well. But to me they turned from out of this world music to a rock version of S Club 7

"Tite Squeeze" was a crap song, but the others like "Bring On The Night (Dream Chaser)", "Power" and "Eyes Of Fire" are absolute gems, and are on par with the best songs Rainbow ever made.

@@Lazerblades eyes of the world probably on par. But in my opinion I wouldn't lose sleep if I never heard that album again. Dio was rainbow, like Ozzy Sabbath, Plant Zeppelin. It's hard to replace the man who makes them. Although in Zeppelin's case none were replaced.

@@normanconnor Rainbow was Blackmore, and Dio was only a very importatnt part of a history of a legendary band which helps him to be a famous and beloved heavy rock singer all over the world.

He was kicked out of deep purple ten years earlier and actually cried like a baby, ten years later Ritchie calls and he runs back broke as a joke and then is fired again like a puppet not a real man just a punk in the streets 😂

Roger was never fired from Rainbow (he stayed on right through their last tour of Japan in early '84), and was not fired from Purple after they reformed in '84. Ian Gillan was. In 1989. And it was Lord, Paice and Glover plus Purple's management who twisted Blackmore's arm to have Gillan come back in 1993.
