My Dad took my sister and I to the Kiss concert in Sydney in 1980, he knew a friend that worked in the entertainment industry who got us some tickets they were $13.50 each lol. As you can imagine back then my Dad was not a Kiss fan but remember over hearing him saying to some friends afterwards that he did enjoy the concert. I would have been eleven at the time and my sister 10 years old. My Mother waited outside in the car for an hour and a half because we couldn't afford 4 tickets, god bless her.

KISS is a legendary rock band known for their iconic makeup, elaborate stage personas, and anthemic rock music. Formed in New York City in 1973, KISS became one of the most influential and successful rock bands of all time. Here’s a closer look at KISS, their history, and their impact on the world of rock music. Formation and Early Years: KISS was founded by two aspiring musicians, Gene Simmons (bass and vocals) and Paul Stanley (rhythm guitar and vocals). They were later joined by Ace Frehley (lead guitar and vocals) and Peter Criss (drums and vocals). The band’s lineup remained stable for several years, and each member adopted a unique stage persona: Gene Simmons became “The Demon,” Paul Stanley as “The Starchild,” Ace Frehley as “The Spaceman” or “Space Ace,” and Peter Criss as “The Catman.” Rise to Fame: KISS’s early years were marked by energetic live performances, distinctive makeup and costumes, and a hard-hitting sound that combined elements of rock, glam, and pop. They gained a reputation for their over-the-top stage shows, which often included fire-breathing, blood-spitting, and elaborate pyrotechnics. Their breakthrough came with the release of the album “Alive!” in 1975, which captured the raw energy and excitement of their live performances. The album produced hit singles like “Rock and Roll All Nite” and catapulted KISS to superstardom. Iconic Makeup: KISS’s makeup and personas played a significant role in their image and appeal. Each member’s distinctive face paint and costume became instantly recognizable symbols of the band. The makeup added an element of mystique and theatrics to their live shows, creating a larger-than-life experience for fans. Hits and Albums: KISS went on to release a string of successful albums in the 1970s and early 1980s, including “Destroyer,” “Love Gun,” and “Dynasty.” Their music often featured catchy melodies, anthemic choruses, and memorable guitar riffs. Hit songs like “Detroit Rock City,” “Beth,” and “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” became rock classics. Challenges and Lineup Changes: The band faced challenges in the 1980s, including a shift in musical trends and the departure of original members. Both Ace Frehley and Peter Criss left the band, and KISS introduced new members to fill their roles. Unmasking: In 1983, KISS made the bold decision to unmask themselves in a public appearance on MTV. This marked a significant departure from their previous personas, but it also allowed fans to see the real faces behind the makeup. Reunion and Resurgence: KISS experienced a resurgence in popularity in the 1990s when the original lineup reunited for a highly successful tour. They continued to tour extensively and release new music with varying lineups over the years. Legacy: KISS’s impact on rock music and popular culture is immense. They are often credited with popularizing the “arena rock” genre and pioneering the concept of the rock concert as a theatrical spectacle. Their influence can be seen in numerous bands that followed, and their music remains beloved by fans around the world. In 2019, KISS embarked on their “End of the Road” farewell tour, marking the end of their live performances as a band. While their touring days may be over, KISS’s legacy as one of rock and roll’s greatest and most theatrical acts continues to live on through their music and iconic imagery.
