    I have a duplex ... 2 boilers as seen in the video. Replacing the existing boilers from 1979. For 2 Weil McLaincga-3 boilers, expansion tanks, demo, and all necessary components is 13 k a fair price? Or is it not as clear cut as that with pricing out a job? Thanks!

    If the combustion test fails, what do you do. I have a boiler like that and when burners shut off it has a funny smell coming from it.

    • @stevenlavimoniere
      @stevenlavimoniere  3 роки тому

      sometimes you can make adjustments to gas valve and air dampers to correct combustion if not you must replace boiler / furnace .

    So when purging a boiler , how do you know which hose to connect to? Or is it the lowest hose.

    Hey there steve. Would you mind explaining what's the purpose of the high vents? I can't seem to find anything on that term on google (your videos are actually the only ones mentioning that). Does it do something different than the pressure relief valve?

    • @volvo09
      @volvo09 6 років тому

      They are used in hydronic heating to vent air from the heating loops. That might help you find it... Air bubbles up into it and when enough builds up a float releases it. Different purpose from the pressure release, these only vent air unless they get stuck, then they leak or don't vent air and you hear bubbles in your heat.

    Is there set levels when doing a combustion test. To see weather its good combustion or not.

    I thought that pretty neat that the zone valves were on the return and downstream of the purge station valves. this seems to eliminate leak points, and frozen isolation valves. What are the downsides?

    Hi, Steve! Thanks for the video. A lot of good info. I have a question: in the video, you say it's not as important to completely bleed the second floor because they're cast iron radiators. Why is that? Is it because cast iron is heavier or because it's stronger? Thanks again!

    • @garretlizotte6288
      @garretlizotte6288 2 роки тому

      Cast iron radiators have built in bleeder valves.
      Any remaining air in the system will purge itself out using those valves.
      Baseboard heaters do not typically have bleeder valves so it is very important to make sure there is no air left in the system utilizing the hy-vent.

    Great vids thanks for posting them. I am trying to size a replacement boiler for my house in the lower Hudson valley in NY. It’s a bi level with 2518 heated square feet I have a 115’ of heated fin tube and a Beacon Morris kick panel blower heater that supposedly puts out 12500 BTU on high, based on this my demand is about 80500 BTU. I imagine I would base my sizing on the DOE output number posted by the manufacturer factoring in efficiency of the unit. Slant Fin seems to have a good rep as a brand. My current done Utica is 150000 BTU input. Sounds too big, house was built in 1963, vinyl sided double insulated windows now, what size boiler do you think I should buy? Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated. All the best

    My old hy-vent leaked and my new one leaks. I have to keep the cap tight or it leaks and I have flushed it to remove any possible dirt. Is it possible my system was piped incorrectly to cause this? Anyone.

    • @briangamache2011
      @briangamache2011 6 років тому

      install another new hy-vent , new does not mean not faulty ,have seen it .

    • @bg147
      @bg147 6 років тому

      @@briangamache2011 I could do that. Originally, I figured it was the system and the way it is piped. I don't know how these vents work. If I pull up hard on the schrader valve, it will not leak water.... but is it still venting air? I don't see what principle is involved that allows them to vent air and not water.

    never see any Honeywell motorized valves makes me wonder. I have them on my system had one fail a few years ago. The switch inside went bad and was allowing the boiler to fire. . Good thing was I just swapped the head out for a zone I no longer use. Those boilers do look pretty new nice job y whoever did it. Molly needs more air time top tech deserves some recognition. Does she get the scrap as your helper? I think she'll be able to vote in the upcoming elections.

    Boiler must be triggered on entirely by low limit, the thermostat is strictly connected to zone valves which circulate the water and eventually cool the water in the loop bringing the temp down to low limit. Interesting and simple design. However there is no failsafe if the high limit switch fails (that I know of), not good. It is what it is though.

    • @kdmq
      @kdmq 6 років тому +1

      No I don't work on these units I'm not qualified I just do DIY. Would love to learn what happens. My best guess is the relief would blow from the pressure buildup.

    • @stevenlavimoniere
      @stevenlavimoniere  6 років тому +1

      no low limit on this boiler only high .this is what they call a cold start boiler .low limit is only on a boiler with a tankless to maintain boiler temp for domestic hot water .99 percent of gas boiler do not have a low limit

    • @kdmq
      @kdmq 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for the info Steve. I completely misunderstood your statement at 10:30. I thought you said there was no thermostat signal to the boiler at all but rather you just said the circulator was not powered from the boiler. I am in university for engineering and am fascinated by how these systems work.
