Magnificent video. Finally someone who explains every step in an understandable. and concise manner. I am proficient in photoshop... I have been wanting and needing to tackle illustrator especially for 3d text. I am so excited. I have been doing this the hard way too long. Thank you!!!!
@@ForeverDansky omg I cannot thank you enough. This was my final frontier ... I was doing this in photoshop.. But it took more steps and it was frustrating... Lol I do 3D printing and even with that knowledge.. I still didn't know how to do this efficiently.. You are an extraordinary teacher...
Loved this tutorial.. Was awesome to follow along and create my own 3D Text. It turned out awesome, since you explained about the different settings and features and effects you can pull off. Am hyped to do more now, because I learn by watching and doing, and by taking lots of notes for practice on my own. Thanks for this. I subscribed, so I will watch more of your videos.
Uh! I'm glad I found this video, played around with different colors with a quote and the result looks really cool. Only I had to renderize every layer so my computer woudlnt' crash haha. Thank you for sharing!
Hey Dansky, Tons of question here, 1) How did you memorized all tools effects, I mean all of illustrator (other softwares like PS, Blender, etc) 2) Did you took notes to memorize or something else 3) Is note taking worth it or not. 4) Is there any effective way of learning kind of these softwares. By the way big fan of your personality and teaching. Love from India
Maybe I could help? I work as a designer 1) work with the software every day and never stop learning 2) never stop learning how to use your tools (software). When you don't know how to do something, learn by Google or youtube 3) everybody is different. If it helps you, do it. 4) UA-cam and Google are great ways of learn. If you are using Adobe products, the Adobe website has some great resources worth checking out. The best designers are curious, never stop growing (learning), and aren't afraid to say "I don't know."
Hey there, Justin’s got some solid answers to your questions! The only thing I would add is that these days I like to keep a text document with links to some of the most useful tutorials (covering things that I will likely forget), and the more you actively use the new skills you’ve learned, the quicker they will become embedded in your brain 🙂
Great video! I wonder if it's possible to make a template of this design. If you split the project up into 2 files it might be possible. 1st file is just for 2D text. 2nd file is used just for 3D effects. Effectively, you could type whatever you want in the first file, save, and then it should update the 3d effect in the second file. I'll have to play with it!
Make sure your document is set to 72 DPI. I'd also recommend keeping Ray-Tracing set to either 'Low' or 'Off' whilst working on the modelling side of things, then render to check how it's looking 👍😊
I have illustrator 2022 running in Catalina and in the extrude panel under the rotation presets I don't have the Perspective option.Any ideas why ? Thank you your great videos.
Hey! This is one of the limitations of using the new 3D features. You can convert the 3D object to a wireframe and expand at the bottom of the panel. However, personally I would create the 3D object using the '3D (Classic)' feature with no shading, expand the 3D object, and this will give you the individual shapes to work with 👍
awesome tutorial ! I have two questions thou. 1. I see a very thin grey noisy outline around your 3d text. how can I get rid of it? 2. Once I save, close the project and reopen it , the texts get rasterized and I can't change the type of text. Is there anyway I can keep the text mode?
The text should stay editable if saving as a .AI file type. You could try and increase the raster resolution to bump up the quality and remove any unwanted bits around the edge.
Thanks! For solid colours, personally I would go to "Effect --> 3D and Materials --> 3D Classic --> Extrude and Bevel" and then try out the different options for the "Surface" dropdown towards the bottom of the panel. One advantage of doing it this way is more flexibility afterwards, because then once you're happy with your 3D shape, you can go to "Object --> Expand" and then edit each face/surface individually, as you would any other vector shape in Illustrator 🙂
everytime i use it it makes the text look pixelated and when i export to png it still looks pixelated also the lighting doesn't look the same in the program help
Keep the ray-tracing effect off whilst modelling etc. and you should be good. Also make sure your document is set to 72 dpi for the resolution, which will effect rendering time of any raster-based effects 👍
I am not finding in 3d and material in my window option but in effects there is 3d and under it extride andbevel then revolve then rtotate options are when i select exclude it show but when i do changes it not shows until i click at ok so it gona very difficult for me i can't know that what changes are occur and again open and do so what's the solution of it
Hey Tim, typically the fans spin up and get louder to reduce temperatures. For example, my Macbook Pro is thin and light but doesn't have great cooling (not many fan vents etc.) so when editing or doing anything super intensive it gets pretty loud. So my advice would be to look for a laptop that's a bit thicker with more space for good airflow, fan vents, cooling etc, as this will be able to maintain better temperatures and keep the fan noise to a minimum. Or if on a desktop get a cpu cooler with quieter/silent fans, or a larger tower case - essentially anything to improve airflow and reduce large amounts of heat from components being confined to tight spaces 🙂
I often set the Ray-Tracing to “low” quality when working on a project, and it’s also worth making sure the document’s raster settings are set to 72 dpi… 300 is good for the final render but will melt most computers if there’s a tonne of 3D objects on-screen haha 😂
Sooo.. does it not have the ability to choose a material for the extrusion? Just playing with this new "feature" and it seems rather incomplete. Adobe seems to suck at anything 3D, them buying Substance has not improved this, it just put lipstick on a pig hahaha
Aha this was recorded on an M1 Mac Mini, which yea does handle most things pretty well, but any long pauses/delays in the video are shortened in editing, just because waiting for things to load isn’t that exciting 😂👍

How would you create this 3d lettering along with a social media gaming banner?

I think it was added either in a later update to the 2022 version, or in Illustrator 2023 👍
