What software are you using? You want to turn the characters into dynamic rigid bodies. Depending on software you can set them to be "kinematic" rigid bodies and then turn them into "dynamic" rigid bodies when you want them to fall apart.
@@TerriblyGoodVideos thanks for answer! i am using blender. so basically i have to animate the dynamic button in blender? the problem is when i do it it immediatelly interacts with all the body parts and explodes :D and start deactivated?
Try and look up some rigid body tutorials for blender. You will have to set the object to rigid body its in the "physics properties" tab just down from the "modifier tab". In the rigid body settings you should see dynamic and animated. You wanna keyframe on and off the animated checkbox. If things start exploding it usually means the geometry is penetrating at some point, try and lean some space in between the dynamic objects.
