Thanks, passed by 100s of times, good to know more about it's history.....🖖👍🏴
Yes me too. I'd love to see inside it properly. Maybe one day. Thanks for watching!
Brilliant local history. Interesting that the new St Mungos Parish Church at Bedford Place ended up back to front as development in Alloa changed.
Thank you! It happens more than you think.
I see from your very interesting history that you have used a picture of Greenside cemetery, adjacent to the mausoleum, in a state that
I remember as a boy. It deeply saddens me that the last time I arranged to visit it (as it is no longer open to the public) that it no more
resembles a a bleak and unused or neglected field, this is also true for main and newer cemetery area at Greenside towards Kilncraigs,
where generations of my mother’s family (and of so many Alloa families) are buried over the centuries. The council say it is closed
for Health and Safety reasons but with no plan in place to remedy this, it means basically we will let it fall into such a grim state that
it will need to be demolished … anyone from Alloa recognise the similar pattern?
I'm hoping to visit it at some stage but now you've said that, I'll be sure to take my wellies! It does need some work done and sprucing up, although the tower has been looked after as work was carried out fairly recently. Thank you so much for watching the video.
@@scotlandshistory You will need to seek permission from the Council, it is more than just 'sprucing up' and it is now regarded as dangerous. Pity the National Trust for Scotland could not take it over, they did a remarkable job with Alloa Tower.
@@robertmcdougall3166 yes I've got the contact details but may leave it until next year and the better weather.
Been meaning to come visit this for a while. What a fantastic history 👏 👌
Thank you! It's one of those forgotten places yet it's a landmark with a great history. Still haven't managed to get in but one day!
@@scotlandshistory It's there in plain sight but you have to take the specific lane to get there. Going to make of point of going up to see it!
@@walkingwithtamson check out Tobias Bauchop's house too then with its sundial. Oldest house in Alloa so I believe.
@@scotlandshistory I have a picture of it but not sure where it actually is as it's an old black and white one. Been wanting to do an episode on it!
@@walkingwithtamson Go up the Kirkgate and it's on your left opposite the flats . Look out for the jutting out sundial.
💖💖
Thanks Bea.
