This behavior on university campuses is weird and puzzling. For a while now universities, which are supposed to be places of learning and exchanging of ideas through critical thinking and debates, it seems have been anything but that. I remember not too long ago when there were "safe rooms" with toys or stuffed animals--something like that, for students who were 'triggered' by ideas obviously too painful for discussion. I thought then, and now--that is creepy! Put your big boy and big girl pants on and get a grip. There are two sides to this horrific war and, no easy answers. Wouldn't it be great if students convened some sort of group-think throughout universities, to try to bring real discussion and possible solutions to this problem. This behavior on university campuses is weird and puzzling. For a while now universities, which are supposed to be places of learning and exchanging of ideas through critical thinking and debates, it seems have been anything but that. I remember not too long ago when there were "safe rooms" with toys or stuffed animals--something like that, for students who were 'triggered' by ideas obviously too painful for discussion. I thought then, and now--that is creepy!
Put your big boy and big girl pants on and get a grip. There are two sides to this horrific war and, no easy answers. Wouldn't it be great if students convened some sort of group-think throughout universities, to try to bring real discussion and possible solutions to this problem. Practice for future real-world leadership.
The leaders of these institutions should not tolerate one-sided thinking and "safe rooms" on a university campus. Imho.

I don't know what you wanna call "antisemitism", but seeing videos of Oct 7 massacre and barbarism that Hamas uploaded to their website themselves and then denying anything like that happened! How is this about protecting free speech when if a student makes a derogatory comment about someone's weight or if a student gets someone's pronouns wrong that is considered violent and abusive behavior subject to disaplinary action including expulsion and screaming at and calling for genocide of the Jewish students acceptable behavior
Because when a student makes a derogatory comment about someone's weight, that's just one student. But when students scream for genocide of you-know-who, that's hundreds or thousands, and they have many millions behind them.

This surge of anti-jewish behavior is crazy but I don't think these presidents were prepared. I'm sure they're ignoring a lot of negative behavior that occurs on n their campuses. People in charge actually don't want to do anything about problems, they just want to collect their check and spend their money. It would have helped had the universities issued a statement when this all started, then follow up by gathering students together to reinforce what won't be tolerated on campus. You can't threaten people regardless of the reason why. Many if these school have a history of discrimination including originally not allowing Jews to attend; I can understand some Jews feeling threatened but any claims of anti-Semitism against a student needed to be investigated now it's ine students word against another's. Supporting Palestine should not automatically mean you hate Jews and I understand that some students were out of control, and were making anti-jewish remarks without understanding that a person can dislike what the Israeli government is doing. But that doesn't mean it's okay to hate Jewish people. AND there are Jewish people who need to stop saying criticism of Israel & it's actions is anti-Semitic because that's untrue.
as a former computer programmer, this is an automated and directed hit-job. Finally, I read the Una-bomber manifesto, written by a Harvard alumni and it fits and addresses some the basic issues being raised, especially deal with Diversity, equality and inclusion. Because the author fell off the beaten path, does not mean that his arguments can be readily dismissed - hell, you got to giv e the devil(evil), his due.

Most of the students protesting, and students of these "elite" schools interviewed couldn't even show where Isreal is on a map. Probably have no idea Isreal was created after WWII by the United nations!

I viewed the alleged transcripts of the testimony. It appears to be planned and directed to elicit a certain response, with the accompanying deluge of implied indifference to parts of the student body, which have enjoyed wide spread acceptance on these campuses throughout the years - given the level of financial contributions. But it is very clear that the muslim communities can match this level given their enormous wealth - such as Qatar. The board at Harvard are very much aware of the problems that would arise on any misstep concerning the unwise decision to fire Ms. Gay - otherwise that would have done it already.
