It's rather smart of her, and also very compassionate, that she tries to calm down this seemingly unwell person-- she still addresses what she said, but in a way that is not inflammatory. This is exactly how politicians should treat encounters with the severely mentally ill. Other politicians would have simply had their security grab the microphone and take the person away, but AOC de-escalated the situation instead.
