ive always been a tomboy (cis woman) and the minute i found out what being trans was ive been supportive of that too. but... im not a trans man, im a cis woman. it irritates me so much when transphobes use the "tomboy" argument like WE LITERALLY STILL EXIST and dont feel like we "need" to transition 🙄 that doesnt take away the validity of trans people

So true! Not only that, but it puts all trans men in a box. Not every trans man was a “tomboy”, I certainly wasn’t. I grew up adoring ponies, dressing up and the color pink, but I still turned out to be trans lmao.
We need to stop generalizing people. Not all tomboys are trans men and not all trans men used to be tomboys. The two are unrelated despite their parallels.

The Navajo language recognizes 16 genders. The 2 Spirit community finds their genders in the Navajo language. Instead of thinking of ourselves as trans, we view ourselves as being on a spiritual journey in which finding our true gender as part of self discovery and important on our spiritual journey.

@Georgia Newman If you are defining gender by genitalia, then there is a third: intersex; those born with both male and female genitalia. Of course, intersex can be scientifically divided into 32 different genders. I think you might be confusing gender with binary opposites. Different sciences acknowledge different numbers of genders. It's really about perspective and how you choose to define gender. That is why we should respect people's gender no matter how they choose to define it, including your right to define it as binary.

@Sarah Black There is a PBS documentary done by Independent Lense called 2 Spirit. It is about the hate crime murder of Fred Mertinez. Fred was Navajo and 2 spirit. He is very important to many of us in the 2 spirit community. The 2 spirit community can be divisive, exactly as the greater LGBTQIA2+ community can be divisive, as Samantha was making a point of in this video we are commenting on. Most 2 Spirited persons feel that the term 2 Spirit is non-transferable to non-natives. I would love for Samantha to do a video on Fred Martinez, perhaps a reaction video as she watches the documentary. The reason the 2 Spirit community is so exclusive to Native-Americans only is so hateful non-natives won't be able to read a book or watch a video, then suddenly think they should educate Natives on how to be Native. If Samantha did a reaction video to the Fred Martinez documentary, it would not be offensive to Natives, and would bring awareness to the 2 Spirit community.

same here omg. i remember from a young age "joking" that i wish i could've been born with the opposite physical attributes, and then in middle school (well before the pandemic) figuring out what language represented me best (and that it WASNT boy or girl). it ended up being nonbinary just because it can be a very encompassing term for other smaller identities and i stick with that because at the end of the day the label doesn't matter to me, just that i and those close to me understand who i am.

As a mortician, we were taught in school to treat people in death as they wanted to be treated in life. It was a hard day when we learned that some 'old school' funeral directors are willing to mis-gender their decedents. Cut their hair, pop off nails, get rid of/add some facial hair. It's so heart shattering. One time I went on a removal, the deceased was a trans man. I had to explain what a packer was to a death investigator and a room full of police officers [all of which were men] because the investigator had to document all 'clothing'. This gentleman was wearing a packer so it needed to be documented. The room was silent as I began to softly explain a few of the reasons why a trans man would want a packer. They all listened and they all learned something that day about respecting people's chosen identities. I can hope at least

Now that gay folk have gained acceptance in mainstream culture there is no need for them to provide a "unified front" and the social differences are being manifest. The TG are last "other" that the rest of the monkeyes can throw poo at. Its human nature sadly.

when i was younger i questioned my identity a lot and ended up watching a lot of trans and lgbtq+ youtubers who made me feel better about my thoughts.
unbeknownst to me i had ended up following the wrong people and when people like blair white mentioned how anyone outside of the typical gender binary didn’t exist it hurt. i actually liked blair’s videos because she rationalized things that made sense to my dumb little 11 year old brain at the time.
hearing the people i looked up to tell me that my identity wasn’t real or right really hurt and cause a lot of inner turmoil that could have been avoided. especially since it was such a new thing to me and the label i was using was fresh even if the way i felt wasn’t.

I don't hate my assigned sex, but it doesn't fit any better than the opposite. People don't know what to do with me because they expect me to behave in certain ways based on my body, even if those expectations make no sense to me. It causes a lot of unnecessary confusion.

It wasn't even about my social circle, what my hobbies were, how I liked to dress, etc. It was just something I felt deep down about myself. I always viewed myself as just... me; just a kid and my gender was never a part of what made up my identity. I just did whatever made me happy. That's all it really is. Gender Expression ≠ Gender Identity ≠ sex, yes they're related but only to western social ideals.
We considered NonBinary the intersex (as it fits outside of a sex binary) of gender identity, which will make a lot of sense if you learn something, or if you even understood what nonbinary means. So yes there is something outside of the binary, there always is something, if there was a third sex it would not be Nonbinary (please use your brain).
But it is not a "word game" it is more, it is a huge part of our identity and culture.
Our history is filled of people who identified with what is known as a "third gender" which we understand now would either be considered transgender and/or nonbinary.
It is not a word game, it is a history, it is human identity, it is our culture, it is in our nature.

I know it's so infuriating! I stopped watching him a long time ago, but I remember when he said he didn't care what pronouns you used on him. He clearly knew about it because otherwise he would have said 'either one' or something, and this was *long* before the pandemic.

I had my first gay crush at 5 years old. I wish someone would've explained to me at the time what that meant and that it was ok.

hello I am a very real demi-girl who uses she/they or they/ she pronouns and no one understands when I try and explain that I kind of am a girl but also i'm not really. It took me forever to figure it out myself and people like Jeffree just make my life incredibly difficult when I am in a comfortable place and I do't have dysphoria anymore

And also Jeffree isn't non binary because he definitely identifies as a gay man. As someone who upholds my morals on gender identity, I'm not going to strip him of his pronouns just because he may be disagreeable. If he doesn't want neutral pronouns on him, that's the same respect I'm giving others

Wasn't Jeffree at one point "she/he" like he didn't care which he was referred too? I think at this point he's struggling to stay relevant and taking a page from Trisha Paytas' book.

I think 8 is definitely old enough to understand that LGBT people exist in an age appropriate way. 8-year-olds are definitely old enough to understand that people have romantic relationships as adults, just because such relationships are part of most stories, films, songs, games, etc. They aren't going to really understand the bedroom aspects of romantic relationships at that age, but they're old enough to understand that people love each other and want to spend time together/live together/etc, and knowing that 2 men or 2 women can fall in love as well should be part of the conservation at that age. Trans identities can be discussed in a similar age-appropriate way.
