Gray Whales Come Up Right Next to the Highway!

- In this video, I trace the path of a group a gray whales along the Malibu coast from Point Dume to near Point Mugu and find a location where they come within a 50 yards of the the highway. However, not all whales follow this path, and this made me curious. Let me know in the comments what you think makes these whales come so close and others take another route.

California tourism bosses should be using this guys videos to promote their state. The quality and professionalism are top drawer 👍
The tourist are all on lockdown, and or are scared of the millions of homeless and illegal aliens that infest the once beautiful state
@Ellie5621 That's not talking trash, its a plain fact. I use to live in CA and the Illegal situation is out of control, Between that and idiot politicians they are destroying a geographically amazing state. Parts of the state have become ruined due to it. The last time I was at a SoCal beach we found needles, broken glass and ridiculous amounts of trash leftover from worthless people that most likely have been brought to the state and remain because of the ridiculous lack of enforcement on illegals and unwillingness to help the US citizens out of homelessness.
@Ellie5621. I am sorry but I was born here in California back in the early 60's and the state is being trashed as we comment, and there is a big difference between illegal immigration and catering to illegal immigration which the state is catering to illegal immigrants while ignoring their own citizens.
They don't deserve the resources they're destroying
I really detest California politicians
St
I love seeing wild animals in their habitat ... especially when they are huge and not usually seen. Thank you!
Keep the sea wildlife videos coming! They are so beautiful and calming and educational and inspire all viewers to want to protect our seas! Thank you for your wonderful work!
This is beautiful and amazing footage. As to your question about why I think some greys stay so close to the coast, I've heard that it's more difficult for orcas to attack them if they're in more shallow water. The same source said that that's why greys are often preyed upon in Monterey, because they'll try to save time by cutting across the deep bay, rather than staying in the shallow water close to shore.
Thank you! You are correct. That area in Monterey Bay is absolutely dangerous for gray whales.
But orcas will chase a seal right up to shore
@@barbaragarza2417 No Orca in the northern pacific has ever done that. You are referring to a group of orcas in the the southern hemisphere, Argentina I believe, that have evolved that behavior on shore. It is not standard Orca behavior to grab seals on shore.
@@TheMalibuArtist Great point! I think I've heard it said that each pod/population has a very specific behavior/diet. Those Argentinian ones have to learn from the older matriarchs.
I’ve heard or read that as well , regarding the orcas. I love orcas too, But the baby whales are A main source of food for the orcas.
These videos deserve WAY more views! It is so well done.. And you scored the music perfectly. The part where the song came to a climax right as the whale shot water from its blowhole. That was a beautiful shot on its own but the music definitely "makes it" what it is. Anyways.. Sorry for the novel. Im just a new sub and I LOVE the channel!
Ms Birdsong you sang your novel just fine and - me too ! : )
Too kind. Thanks so much!
When I find a new channel that I love I go crazy too....I feel like I’m rambling on and on but I’m just so excited! 💖
Beautiful! I've seen gray whales right off the beach in this exact location before. It's a real treat to see them from the opposite angle.
So cool. The only way I'll ever get to see one. Thank you. It's so magical and I feel free like them
I was under the impression a lot of the whales that risk traveling away from shore in deeper water are doing it from memories of when whaling was commonplace. Some believe these animals swim those more treacherous passages to avoid humans. Love these wonderful creatures. Much respect for them ❤
Omg when the whales poked their heads out of the water. I couldn’t believe it I got chills watching. That’s so beautiful
Perfect music and volume for these majestic giants 🥰 great narrating voice as well...thank you so much for sharing and for your hard work🙏🏽😎
absolutly BEUTIFUL footage!!
Thanks my friend.
I am so grateful I have found you and your channel. Lots of love from South Africa
I find myself grinning from ear-to-ear when I watch these pretties preen and play. Transcendent! 👌🙏🤙
I live in Christchurch, NZ. Approximately 90 minutes drive away is a placed called Motunau Bay. I remember, as a nine year old seeing a humpback breaching just off shore. This was around 1971-2. Another hours drive up the road is Kaikoura. In the 1990's, whale watching became a multi-million dollar industry and changed the entire town. All manner of marine mammals are seen relatively close to shore as there's a deep trench, where Colossal squid live and die, and many species of cetacean spend time here.
You will have a tv series in no time. Keep up the hard work its amazing doing something you love and enjoy.
Within 3 days, this channel has become my favorite. Relaxing and informative.

Thank you! I did not know you could see the whales right off the PCH and because of this post I saw one! It was great! Praise God for these magnificent sea creatures!
This is just beautiful footage!! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
I wonder if the gray whales would like it if we installed a kind of car wash brushing station for them... something to really rub them clean... it’s got to suck having so many parasites...
I said the same thing and was told Grays use their Barnacles for protection and even as a weapon.
Very cool idea ! Most Whales seem bothered by parasites . . .even Great White sharks.
We should try your idea.
I think that’s what they found there at this particular spot and they stay so long and roll in roll in roll because they’re getting all the barnacles and the parasites off at sand wash!! 😀🐋🐋
Your footage is just incredible. I find it so calming to watch these creatures in their natural habitat like this. Majestic. 😍❤️
I really love your channel! Great imagery and your commentary adds to it. Thanks.
Fantastic capture! Bravo!!!

Nice videos, thank you for your commitment to shows them in the wild. I’m glad I ran into your on the side of Pacific Highway to ask you what are you doing.
Beautiful creatures. Thank you for sharing your videos. You are so lucky to live so close to the sea. Gorge weather too. Greetings from England 🏴

Pretty well done...as always! Thanks for sharing!
Stellar work. The most beautiful and informative whale footage of any species I've seen. THX! I'm also a local so it's especially relevant.
What a beautiful video. Thank you so much for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh my goodness, you really are the most incredible channel. I’m watching from New Zealand 🇳🇿 your work is magnificent, respectful and valuable. Thank you for sharing with the world! 🙏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Bravoooo great JOB,SIR
Thank you for this beautiful video❤❤❤❤🐳🐳🐳🐳
I absolutely love your videos and so glad I found them today!🐬🐋🐳🐚🎶
Yay! Thank you!
Nice video as usual
Ohhhh I love the whale! I didn't know you videoed whales. Thank you!
Man I love these vids. I’ve sat on the shoreline watching the sea life and always wanted a birds eye view. I saw a great white off Will Rodgers beach when I was a kid 1981, and everyone thought I was either lying or I was seeing waves or dolphins.
But I knew the difference and what I was seeing even though great whites were very rare.
I wonder if there are any areas near Malibu where mature sharks hang out.
I only use UA-cam now to watch your videos - awesome !
Ooh. Excited!
I love your video, I have been watching all of them. I have a huge fascination and respect for Great White Sharks. Your channel is incredible.
So amazing, thank you. Curious, do you ever notice the whales reacting at all to your drone?
WOW! That’s amazing 🤩
Awesome, nothing else to add!
I think you are a freaking genius!
This was fire 🔥
Beautiful capture of the rainbow in the whales spray 🐳🌈
Thanks for this beautiful video
Thank you, so nice to see this.
Thank you!!!
So beautiful. I love that they seem to blow rainbows🌈
The David Attenborough of our generation ladies and gentlemen… keep up the amazing content!
This video had me in tears. Partly because it is so beautifully shot and edited. Partly because it makes me home sick. And partly because it hurts to know how much damage we have and are still doing to our oceans and wildlife.
I sometimes tear up at the shark footage too. What must the oceans have looked like 1,000 years ago, before we started stripping it of the food sources of its inhabitants?
YOUR videos are like a meditation for me .Excellent job
Wow, thank you
@@TheMalibuArtist 🙂
Such amazing footage, my 2 and 4 yr old usually enjoy watching your shark footage, this was such an extra treat to watch todwy
That's so awesome. I'm trying to make these videos for a younger viewing audience to enjoy as well. So I'm glad to hear that!
Since whales generally travel in family groups and learn from parents, I figure it's kinda like a bunch of families who take the same cross country road trip, each family is likely to make different stops and detours based on experiences. Then the next generations take some or all of the same stops but might change some.
Saw a Great white with my drone yesterday! it was awsome!
Incredible footage! Whales are wonderful examples of Gods wonderful creatures!
Some are more itchy than others? Sorry, I had to be a little flip before I said this... keep up the videos. I don't know how you can continue to do this, as often as you do, nor why you are doing it... but it's great. I'm even agreeable to your commentary, which I am a stickler on (whether that matters or not) - and you are growing into this, very well. I know that stretch of highway, I drove it a lot. I wish I'd have looked right (going south) or... visa versa. I love the ocean no matter what, thanks for the great videos. I'm subscribed to you.
Oh, and the two different paths I believe was because of the number of barnacles and stuff they had to clean off. The others had probably already cleaned themselves more or less. That's my guess anyway. Thanks again TMA.
Magical.
I dream about whales a lot.
Amazing
I saw a whale for the first time surfing and it happened twice in a week! They seem pretty active right now
I loved seeing the rainbow in the whales exhale' s mist. Beautiful animals. It looked like they were scraping their bodies on the sea floor. Did you guys know that the "gray whale" is the State of California's 'State marine animal.
Amazing. Thank you for showing me a different world.
To hazard a guess, are the whales that turn in the sand younger?
Awesome
I'm not crying, you are
Cupid I love you!!!
I think I’ll cancel my whale watching trip. Wonderful photography and narration.
Maybe some of them choose the path closest to shore to avoid running into transient killer whales, soo scary
Beautiful videos. I have heard there are Orca Whales off the Coast of So. CA. Wonder if this group takes the shallow path to protect the younger whale from attacks? Just a thought. But I also like to think they are bathing in the sand :)
I have heard there are cocas in the area also but never seen one and I use to go out on my boat a lot. Seen all kinds of whales, seals and dolphins and etc. Except a great white and orcas. I think you are right because I have heard that grey whales will hug the coast because the orcas hate shallow water and avoid attacking in shallow water.
I’ve seen whales in the same location twice in the last 10 years
Awesome whale vlog, puts bbc to shame. Thanks for making my day.🐳🐳🐳
Too kind. I greatly appreciate you stopping by!
Wow💙
A grey whale traveled up False creek in Vancouver. I got to watch it from the bike path(30 ft away), it was that close.
They scratch their back 😍😍
