Everything looked so clean and fresh! The interior colors were soothing and the cocktails & food so vibrant! Too bad about the darn wind! 🚩Looking forward to part deux! All the best to you
I spend 5 nights at live aqua Cancun and loved it! I booked live aqua Punta Cana based on your review and was a little nervous that it wouldn’t be as good as Cancun. Now I am super excited to experience the punta cana location, huge thanks for your videos
Very cool to see you're starting the Cancun area. My favorite hotels in Cancun so far in order : Secrets Impression Moxché (just insanely above everything else that exists), Iberostar Grand Paraiso (mainly for the food and the ocean front rooms), Secrets Maroma, Excellence Riviera Cancun. I am booked for Hyatt Ziva and Excellence Playa Mujeres so we'll see. Live Aqua has been on my future resort list along with Secrets Akumal, Unico, Atelier, Secrets Impression Isla Mujeres and Secrets Cap Cana.
We have been to the Mayan Riviera area several times in the last few months and the wind has been relentless almost every time It certainly puts a damper on your pool or Beach day
My daughter and I were there last January first her birthday. We both loved it. We liked the close proximity to the shops too. Everyone has their own criteria for an all inclusive. I also went to the Fiesta Americana which I believe is a sister property. Food was great. Fish tacos. ❤ Sometimes you may need more time or a second stay to get the full picture. Safe travels. 😊
Thanks for the very detailed, honest, professional and entertaining review. Couple of questions, what domestic beer is included in the AI, is it Heineken level ? Any issue with ever getting into the restaurant of choice, any live entertainment ie., bands musicians and how would you compare it to the JW Marriott in Cancun, which is probably the highest level of luxury, so far I have stayed at in Cancun. Thanks so much.
I’ve been watching since your first few Vegas resort reviews! And now here I am booking Playa Del Carmen for my 30th bday, hoping you’re visiting Xcaret Arte soon…. Would love your honest breakdown review of that property 🤞🏼
@@sergiov4918 He mentioned he got upgraded because of his Expedia status, I am guessing that is what he used. I have used Expedia a lot and have never had any issues with using it.
We stayed here back in 2015 and loved it. It was actually our first all inclusive experience and a great one to start with. Many things looked very familiar and saw some newer stuff too. We had a great time but haven't felt the need to return, yet, with all the other great options in the region. One of the biggest selling points is that it's Adult Only and that is worth quite a bit as well.
Hi friends . May i ask you what website are you bought your ticket ( air and hotel all included ) and do you have something secrets . thanks and have a great day
This was the first all inclusive we stayed at when we started travelling annually with our friends nearly 10 years ago. The other all inclusive resorts that we have stayed have been a little disappointing in comparison and I think it is time to come back to Live Aqua. (Kudos to our Husbands who accidently booked the one of the most amazing all inclusives in Cancun) It looks like they have freshened the decor and have kept the coziness of the restaurants. We remember that the staff was amazing and went our of their way to make our stay memoriable.
I loved this property! Did you happen to get the sushi by the main lobby bar? I thought it was better than good, I thought it was great and truly a distinctive feature! Make sure you ask for the bartenders to double up on your liquor amounts, they seem to be a little light on the pour!
Too bad about the wind. Beach looked like it would have been nice. Great video as always . One other, music for your videos have been getting better and better recently. Thanks James!
We had been going to LA for 6 years straight. Our favorite AI adults only resort in Mexico. Checked all our boxes. However, since lockdown, the room/night price has skyrocketed. Especially during the Christmas holiday week. 1000/night this year!! Nope...See ya Live Aqua!
Still waiting on Riu Caribe! But thanks for all the “work” you are putting in! Cheers!! The editing and making it worth watching is work don’t take my “work” the wrong way 😅
Back in 2012, my husband and I adored our stay here at Live Aqua. Now, with two little girls, do you have any recommendations for a family-friendly resort that's just as wonderful?
Spot on review. We just got back from Live Aqua 2 days ago. We went with a few other couples. I have to say we had mixed reviews. Once we checked in, we were encouraged to upgrade to The Aqua Club and were told that we would have a few perks such as Butler service, access to the aqua club lounge as well as Premium Liquor. There wasn’t an extensive liquor selection to choose from. They pretty much just had the basics. Great staff and pretty good food for the most part. The breakfast was very good as was the BBQ by the pool. The chicken and ribs were EXCELLENT. The Hidden Garden had pretty good food as well with a beautiful atmosphere. MB’s was just OK, nothing to write home about. Why men have to wear long pants there is beyond me. A word to the wise, stay away from Carnivore. We went there celebrating a milestone birthday and expected a superb experience, especially being that it’s not part of the all inclusive and is pricey. I have to say, the food was atrocious. So bad that they actually had to take two dinners off of the bill. Two of the steaks that were supposed to be medium rare came out burnt beyond recognition and the other dinners were just OK. Definitely nothing to rave about. It’s hard to understand how you can screw up a steak. You can’t even say that the kitchen was overwhelmed due to the fact that we were the ONLY ONES there besides another table of two. Another negative thing that we experienced was the fact that there is pretty much no nightlife there. You have to leave the resort to really enjoy the nightlife vibe. Don’t get me wrong, we all said that we would definitely go back knowing what we know now. It’s just that if the vibe was more lively it would’ve made a world of a difference.
We returned home yesterday from an all-inclusive trip in the Riviera Maya region and the ocean was very wavy everyday. It was a shame because I was not allowed to do any kayaking. It didn't stop us or anyone else from swimming in the ocean though.
Great review James! The hotel looks great but a bit dated/tired/needs a refresher. The food looked fantastic. $350/night is on point. Anything more than that is too high.
If you are planning on trying an Excellence property, hopefully ERC as it has a much better layout and overall feel than EPM. I found the food better too. It's quite an old property but I love it.
Had a five day stay in October, red flag day everyday. Food was just ok, they couldn’t get my steak right at MB after two tries but the habanero soup was amazing. Night life was really lacking and honestly the price per a night I thought was pretty expensive for what you got. The highlights though were the staff, our beach waiter and hector the bartender to had the margarita class were awesome!!! And we really enjoyed the pools, however renting a cabana for 80 dollars a day I thought was outrageous even if it does come with a ten min foot massage. I felt upgrading to an aqua suite did not support the included cabana at 150-200 dollars more a night. My friends enjoyed it and want to go back. I just thought it was ok not the best. Certainly not the worst.
There's a section in the video of the pools with loud wind noise and no music. Not sure if it was intended to highlight how windy it really was or if you meant to have music! Love all your videos
Lately I haven't been inserting music in the pool and beach montages for more of an ASMR vibe. I did overlay music in this beach montage because of the overpowering wind.
I love the way the restaurants seem tucked away from each other. I hate when they are stacked right next to each other/overlaps/square. Same logic with pools.
I imagine it'll be a 4 when all is said and done. I feel usually if a stay elicits a "reserve judgment" response, it's a pretty clear indicator a 6/6 score is ruled out and a 5/6 is possible but pretty unlikely. Because 6/6 resorts just consistently elicit that feeling naturally, and 5/6 resorts, as imperfect as they are, also inspire this feeling to a slightly lesser extent. I highly doubt it not being windy is going to ultimately change the outlook much if at all. The Thai restaurant looked like the standout of Live Aqua Cancun to me. That looked amazing! The room was awesome too! On the flipside, the resort doesn't feel like it has much soul, or character like you surmise. I can't say I was floored by this place based off of your review alone, but am still looking forward to Part II. 😇
Definitely not a 6. It's so hard to gauge because of the price elasticity. At $350/night, it's borderline excellent, but at $600/night it's borderline lackluster. We'll see... 😎
We've stayed at this hotel three times, and have always enjoyed it! Food is very good, the service is fantastic, and we do like the "Miami Beach-ish" feel, never having been there. When you go back, be sure to see about reserving the Live Aqua level room, which allows you entrance to the lounge on the floor. It's separate, and very nice. Also, be sure to reserve a cabana, as it comes with a wonderful 20-minute foot massage (or at least it did in the past). The fact that anyone would be willing to do that to my feet for that long amazes me, and it feels great. Regarding the beach, it was one of the reasons I chose the place, as I much prefer to swim in the waves than to bathe in an ocean that emulates a pool, especially with so many nice pools to choose from. I was told once that the red flag had nothing to do with conditions....it had to do with sharks....but who knows. My fav restaurant for lunch is that one in the corner, Sea Corner. I hope you have a better experience the next time you go. Watching this has made me think that another trip is needed. Thanks for that!
Best all inclusive food I’ve had in Cancun however Iberostar is more fun with better alcohol on the adult side. Would pick Iberostar 1st and Live Aqua 2nd
@TeeF87 Steak, Lobster are all upcharge. Cabanas by pool and beach have a fee. This pretty much sold me at Excellence properties as steak, Lobster, and daybeds were INCLUDED in the All Inclusive price.
It’s difficult to rate the Live Aqua against the Iberostar Coral level- they are two very different resorts. But which one would you rather stay at if money isn’t an issue?

On dit "Je ne sais quoi". If you are interested , here is an important review. You Will have to "work" for this one as I am French from Canada. Are you really thinking that we want To travel just to eat food that ressemble ours and celebrate that Starbuck is in the resort ? If Cuba would not have been sanctioned by your country, YOU would like To see what is really being on vacation, under palapas enjoying looking at the océan and walking less than 50 feet To get in a turquoise water. No enormous pools, no enormous restaurants, no massive concrete construction. Just an outside by the beach opened al fresco restaurant with live little cuban band. You are eating a grilled lobster freshly catched from the sea. No frills, no luxe just nature at its best. Oh, and after dinner you walk to the pier at 100 feet from the restaurant and you will be looking at a sky full of stars because they are no humongus light around To destroy the visibility.
