This perfectly highlights why I love John Mayer and how good of a musician and writer he is, without being virtuosic or flashy.

The amazing dog thing about Mayer and his band is that ALL of them are complete masters and could easily shred out on every song and overdo it but they know how to work with space in a song which is so much more important

Claude *Applause* you my friend, gosh. This is one of the most insightful videos ive ever watched. as an engineer, guitarist, producer. Ive seen some of these tings in mixes etc. buts its what we call icing and done normal with effects. Its interesting to see how you point out that its done live and how it can be used in an orchestral mode to give depth and toneal quality. Thank you so much for your insight!

This guy nailed it and was glad he used a master of layering like John Mayer. Mayer is so cerebral but yet makes it look like he's just floating along wildly jamming on a song, but really, he's so disciplined. Thank you for putting this video together. It was so well done and formatted. Love it. I subscribed.

as if it's hard. he's a great player who is a true artist--meaning he did something that no one really did beforehand in terms of his songwriting, and he has some unbelievably complex compositions, along with being a great player on more traditional runs, riffs, phrases.

What a great video! For Wild Blue I needed to listen to the studio version twice before I could isolate the other two parts. They are so, so subtle. Deciding where to set the volume of the supporting parts must be challenging, as these parts have their own its own merits and, at times, could be given more focus--as they are in Helpless. Really enjoyed your observations and discussion.
