    Welcome to the 12th episode of the Texas Plinking 1 MOA At 1,000 Yards Challenge. A monthly video series where I let 5 fans come out with their equipment and attempt to shoot a 10" gong at 1,000 yards in under 10 shots. If they hit it, they can use their remaining shots on the 5" gong. The 10" gong is worth 10 points and goes down 1 point after every shot. The 5" gong is worth 20 points and goes down 2 points after every shot. Once both are hit, the challenge is complete and each unfired round is an additional point. New episodes go live on the 1st Monday of every month!

    Kind of just my observations, from watching every episode of this, but my best mate, who now lives in the USA, and is a freakish iron sights shooter, hitting out to 450 yards, without a spotter, 1000 in ten shots with one, agrees. If you have a mag fed rifle, in general, use the mag. You can stay on target, and just apply your corrections, without having to completely reset after every shot. Prime example in this episode- that is what the second shooter did. The contrast between him, and the first and third, couldn't be more obvious. Okay, Aaron almost belied that, with that awesome second shot hit, but his 1/2 MOA troubles showed it yet again........Of course TP sort of belies it, but he holds the rifle steady while reloading, doesn't let it drop, not at all. And he's a freak!

    • @Honezjr
      @Honezjr 4 місяці тому +14

      The reason the first shooter doesn’t use his mag is probably because he’s seated his bullets out long in his handloads and they don’t fit in the mag. Obviously that choice has some serious downsides as you pointed out.

    • @marcusd3212
      @marcusd3212 4 місяці тому +3

      @@Honezjryup this is exactly why he didn't use the mag. When hand loading cartridges sometimes you have to make the longer in overall length. Its depends on the freebore of the barrel and how it groups with different seating lengths. Also with a semi auto the action has the possibility of pushing the projectile into the case messing up his seating depth which changes his free bore. I just got into the habit of fast forwarding 10 seconds after each one of his shots 😂

    • @ronasaurus74
      @ronasaurus74 4 місяці тому +1

      @@HonezjrYeah, I hadn't thought of that, but yeah, that does introduce the problems I described, which would seem to outweigh the advantages of using such handloads....

    With shooter 1. Whilst it may be disappointing to pull a shooter, I LOVE that you have SOPs in there fore safety regards the number of unobserved shots you allow. 10/10 mate, well done.

    Why was shooter 1 running a gas gun like a bolt? And another thing ive noticed watching this series is the painfully slow time between shots with most shooters. Wind shift is surely a factor to so many misses

      I was asking the same thing about single loading an AR10...made me question if I was doing something wrong 😮

    • @Merk21
      @Merk21 4 місяці тому +12

      Agreed, my thought is if the bullets he loaded had too long of an OAL to fit the mag, then that was his only option. But yeah, the guys taking forever between shots - especially with gassers - seems to be hurting more than helping.
      All that being said though, they're the ones out there shooting while we're commenting on a video 🤣

      Yeah seeing people dialing after a shifty wind drives me nuts. Nothing wrong with being methodical but the wind isn’t gonna wait

      @@Merk21no it's done because mag loading can mess up the bullet in a hand load throwing off accuracy same reason people with bolt guns do the same thing

    Best series on UA-cam I’ll keep saying it. Phil would’ve got it if he had better body mechanics, so close but a nice reminder of how important form is.
