TheDodgeboi The magnetic starter is basically a remote switch controlled by the pressure switch on the compressor. The contacts inside of the pressure switch can only handle a few amps; if I tried to pass all of the motor current through this little switch, it would probably only work a few times until the contacts burned up. So, this little pressure switch controls a much larger switch (the magnetic starter) to turn the motor on and off.
Your explanation of the issue, plus your troubleshooting steps are PRICELESS.
Clear and concise ... Thanks

Great fix man , Glad it did not hurt the motor of compressor !!
Still holding up? Need to get a 5hp starter for single phase planer.
How's the starter box holding up. Wanted to get this same box but I don't want to waste money if it will burn up in a couple months
Eddie delacruz So far no problems; it is still working just as if it was new...
What is the point of a magnetic starer?
You got that Compressor for a few hundred! Bargain....
It has been a good number of years, but I believe I paid $350 for it. Yes, it was a great score! Nice heavy duty machine for not a lot of $$.
