Thank you so much for finding and saving this model! I remember when my dad first saw pictures and video of its original build and flight, I was ASTOUNDED! My father worked on the C-17 in the ground and durability test lab in Long Beach, CA, and I had the privilege of seeing the first-flight in 1991, as well as seeing the last delivery in 2015. In way I basically "grew up on the C-17". I made a small model a few years back, and have since made some of my own giants, but I've always wondered what happened to this old Moose.... Thank you thank you THANK YOU for bringing this bird back to life, if for no other reason than for new generations to see it and be inspired by it, either to RC or full-scale aviation or something else entirely. Innovation is always preceded by Inspiration; Never underestimate the power of inspiring somone.
This was test flown by Ali at RAF North Luffenham in the UK many year's ago after he purchased it from Colin Strauss. I'm the current Chairman of the Rutland R/C Flyers that fly from the airfield which is now run by the Army and is now called St Georges Barracks. Nice to see this iconic aircraft being brought back to it's former glory.
Thank you for watching- I love hearing about this plane’s history. It did not deserve to be forgotten. We will try our best to have her flying again.😊👍
You have a great heart for aviation and for this aircraft. I flew home from Afghanistan in one of these beautiful aircraft in 2009 and I'd love to see the restoration and the first flight. Good luck with your project!
I love RC' rs like myself that takes the initiative to save, restore and fly again a massive project like this. I have some myself that I have purchased and started to rebuild or fabricate new parts to make them flight worthy again. Mine are no where close to the size of your beautiful C-17. I worked for Boeing and lived close to Long Beach where they rolled off the assembly line. John Grieco Sr from Hayden, Idaho USA. I would love to see more restoration videos in the future
Hi John, thank you for watching our videos- we are hoping to continue with the restoration of the C17 this winter. Sometimes it’s easier to start from scratch with a massive build like this , however the challenge to complete it and make it better then before is exciting.
Wow.. that model has travelled a long way.. It was built in the UK back around 2000 by Colin as the feature project of the second season of a Discovery TV show called "Super Models II" (the first season being the creation of a 1/10th Ish scale HMS Fearless). The Pump you were showing came from a UK car accessory shop called Halford. It's the guts of an electric tyre inflator. If I remember correctly, in the UK the model was so big it had to have a Permit to Fly issued by the Civil Aviation Authority. I always wondered what happened to it since the show. It's pretty much this show that re-kindled my interest in model aircraft as I started on RC helicopters back around 2001. You should see if you can get a hold of the Show on DVD or something because It would probably help with your restoration. Nice to see it again good luck with getting it back airbourne.
WOW! What great information. This is very exciting and helpful. This plane is known around the world. I’ll try and find a copy of that discovery Ch show. We really appreciate your comment. Please continue to watch future videos as we piece together this beautiful aircraft. Thank you 😊
@@winklton Yep me too . Around 2000 seems about rite , I still had Sky then . Program was presented by Mark Evans , a vet in his early years , he basically later turned tv presenter . Did several series which started with building a Cobra kit car ranging , then going on to build several other kits including a chopper and aircraft , till it eventually ended after two series of super models . The Fearless was something like 11 ft long if i remember correctly , with working scale landing craft and a flying helicopter . The C17 was capable of dropping , i think it was a Land rover , but little else .
@@mickey1299 the presenter was not mark evans it was mark found. mark found did a model of HMS Fearless and a model railway in his back garden also. Sal. I am just starting out with this hobby. I am building a large FU4 Corsair. But are saving a piece of history. I would love to see this project till the end. Very interesting restoration.
Very informative and just watching it makes me appreciate the hobby even more. This is the kind of content that would want people be a part of this hobby.
Remember watching the tv show that originally built this, fantastic seeing it fly for the first time....they did another show building a giant model of HMS fearless
Impressive project. If you have the plane apart, it deserves to get fresh airlines and wiring. The amount of love, passion and effort far exceeds the savings for a few hundred feet of airlines and electrical wiring. The plastic jacket around the wiring conductor is old and exposed to harsh elements, it may not serve its purpose anymore - may cause jitters and interference... Think about it! Love the whole thing. Good luck.
Wow! 😲 Sal that was awesome to see! Can't wait to see your next segment and hopefully in the air again! Beautiful workmanship and ingenuity in this project! Thanks
Good on you for saving that plane. It deserves to be saved. Would love to see progress videos. I have done the same in the past. Im currently working on a 20 year old Don Smith B-17 built by Larry Wells. Liberty Belle will be as brand new when done to last another 20 years.
very interesting finding this i can remember this aircraft the thing is now there has been so much improvement in engine and radio gear that makes these project much more reliable and safer

Thank you Mr. Edwards for the backstory - This C17 has such amazing history. The restoration is on hold at the moment due to Lucas (the owner) being busy at work. Hopefully this winter we will get back to getting her flight ready. This C17 was built with love - very well done. Thank you again for being a part of this amazing build.😀
How long has this build been going on for, and about how long will it be before being completed? Also where can he fly something like this once complete? Will it be power by 4 turbines? That is one big plane.
We just kinda started the restoration -Im not sure how long it will take, but there is no rush to complete it. After it's complete we will figure out a location to fly it. Thank you for watching.
Hi guys, I have the Home & Leisure original crash landing of this C17 as one of my original videos I uploaded to UA-cam some 10 years ago. I hope you don't mind but original footage of this super models series is very rare it seems.. So I made a playlist of your C17 repair and carded the playlist within my video as I'm regularly asked for more info about it. Cheers.
I watched the original videos when this aircraft was being built. I was stationed at Charleston AFB, SC when the real Australian aircraft landed there.

im just being completly honest: i dont think this guys really understands how to repair/fix that plane. id rip everything apart and replace everything since this plane is over a decade old.... but okay, if you guys like to risk something, go for the 13y old cables and pneumatic lines :D
I think the nose geometry is little off, it’s not challenging to restore something of this scale, will it be jet powered or edf? Will the restoration incorporate scale cargo drop?

"...real Australian aircraft..."? This R/C aircraft is from the United Kingdom, tail #ZZ174. Australian C-17 tail numbers do not start with a "Z".
Finally people are starting on building C-17s, now, we just have to wait for a company to make them so we can fly them
