- After a lot of practice, this is how I update my firmware in the Icom IC-7300. It's a simple 5 minute procedure.
I have a longer video out on how to update the firmware and you can see it here: • Icom 7300 Firmware Upd...
1. Format SD card if necessary. I do a format anyway just to be safe.
2. Save your settings to the SD card.
3. Copy the new firmware from your PC or Mac to the SD card IC-7300 folder!
4. Update firmware.
5. Reload your settings.
See sections 8 and 15 in the Icom 7300 full manual.
I'm an Amateur Radio enthusiast. I love the hobby and experimenting with radios, antennas and software. I have a lot of fun. On my UA-cam channel I upload videos mostly on the Icom 7300 and Icom 7610 as well as Ham Radio software programs. I hope to inspire people to get involved in Amateur Radio.

An excellent Short video, the only thing missing is how to check the current firmware version on 7300
Thank you so much Glen. Great point and I guess I didn't mention it. The version pops up on the LCD when the radio powers on. Bottom right corner: ua-cam.com/video/ep2qQURI91g/v-deo.htmlm10s

Thanks and take care. This last one is a good one. See the info Icom has out. I'll do more with it soon. 73!
Thanks again, Rich. Had no issues with the update
Thank you so much for commenting. V1.40 is a nice update, see the pdf they put out. 73!
Thanks man. I don’t think this firmware is worth the update but I’ll give it a try anyway. Best 7300 youtuber and I thank you

terryc29 Nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting here. I change it quite a bit but I think that this video will show it: ua-cam.com/video/Tk5xug_ixsQ/v-deo.html

Thank you Ed! 73, K0PIR.us
Thanks for that simple to follow video, the only problem is I cant get the sd card in the pc.
Hey man, great video! I just have one question I hope you can reply soon. Is it OK to leave the SD card in the slot on the radio? My reasoning for doing so is so that I don't lose the SD card somewhere.
Thanks again, KD8EFQ/73!
Nice to hear from you Charles. Yes absolutely. Thanks for commenting here. 73!
@@HamRadioAdventures Wow, thanks for the quick/fast reply! So, for new updates then, just take the SD card out and put it in the computer, download new updates, put the SD card back in the radio slot, follow the prompts on/in the radio and were done?

If this is the New update 1.40 then why did it say on the screen 1.30 after your updated? Time 4.43
The video is two years old. But it will show you how to up date the firmware. 73!
Updated, thanks 73!
Nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting! Best 73 - Rich, K0PIR.us
Thanks for the heads up on the new firmware. Apart from scouring the Icom website every day to check for updated do U get update info elsewhere?
Hi Chris, yep I keep a eye on Icoms website and then the Icom 7300 facebook page. As far as I know Icom doesn't have a notification system we can join. 73 and thanks for commenting - Rich, K0PIR.us
Join the Icom 7300 users group on groups.io and you will get an email when there is new firmware. 73 james K0UA
quick and easy. Thanks!
Thanks for the video procedure

the last update on my radio is 1.14 do I go to the lastested update and all the prior updates automatically be installed ?? Or do I have to do them as they came out???
Hi Gene, nice to hear from you and that's a great question. You should be good to update to the latest. I do not see anything in the v1.30 update information cautioning users, see: www.icom.co.jp/world/support/download/manual/pdf/IC-7300_ENG_FirmUpInfo_V130E_0.pdf
There was a caution for the 7610 regarding that, but none for the 7300.
Save your settings.
Thank you and happy holidays,
Rich, K0PIR.us
Is updating the firmware absolutely necessary and if so, how frequently does it need to be done?
It’s not necessary to operate, but I would do it and there hasn’t been a recent update. So you may only have to do it once. 73
And an update came out two days later!
@@madmagrider that was funny.
Many Thanks. I might have missed it in a previous comment. What happens if in the past three years I've NEVER updated? Will the current firmware update be happy or is it necessary to do any intermediary updates that may have been released over the past three years I've had my 7300? I know how much work is involved in creating these videos as I have 650+ on my channel. so THANKS AGAIN for investing the time. de www.W3ATB.com
Nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting. It does not mention prerequisites in the instructions, so I would go ahead. It is a good update. 73!
thanks! how do you set up the line on the scope peaks?
Fernando F. Hello and thank you for commenting here I hope all is well where you are. There has been lots of questions about the peak because it does not go up high enough for some users. They would prefer it to be increased. Unfortunately, there is no way to address that and the lines (scale) are not adjustable. I have learned to live with it as it is. I do adjust the peaks (Signal to noise) using the ATT or the RF Gain. Thank you again, be safe and best 73!
How do you update firmware with a cable?
Thanx for very clear video 73 2EIGO

Ok, I have done this routine about a dozen times letter by letter and word by word. All I keep getting is "Illegal Data" when trying to do the update. I give up. Where is the magical key to open the lock to the castle so I can save the queen???
