    Really amazed by the amount of trades in that house at one time. It has always been hard to get trades willing to work together. Props to you guys for creating that environment.

    I absolutely love the RAZ for scribing baseboard and cabinets to the floor. Can’t believe festool stopped offering it. I treat that thing like gold knowing I can’t get another.

    Would be great to go into the scribing detail a little deeper. We see them screwing the baseboard high into the wall then doing something, but not sure what. Would be great to unpack that more.

      You set the baseboard at a nominal height then use the largest gap to set your scribe, so if you find your largest gap is 1/4" at 6in height, you adjust up by 3/16" scribe that in and then drop it down to sit on the ffl. At that point you now have it ~6" height (after taking in to consideration deviation and kerf)

      the screws were only used to hold baseboard for the scribe marking. Then remove ,sand/cut down to scribe line, then install tight to floor.

      @@hu5tle- What I would do is this:
      For 6" baseboard, going off the top of the baseboard: set lazer at an arbitrary height, such as 7" (1" from floor to bottom of baseboard) off the floor at the lowest point in the room. Then, find the highest point in the room, let's say it is 1/2" higher than the lowest, and set your scribe with the following formula: 7" (arbitrary height) - 6" (baseboard height) + 1/2" (height differential) = 1-1/2" (scribe).
      Cut baseboard pieces to length and check fit, may cut some pieces long for coping and mitering. Set pieces in position, not yet fastened to the wall. Temporarily hold pieces so that the baseboard is level and the top is following the lazer (shims, screws, a few brad nails) and mark your scribe. Cut or sand away. Install baseboard!

    Looks good! I was thinking about that mirror behind a door. I think if it looked like a cabinet door it would be better. Opening a passage door to be greeted by a mirror is jarring to me. A cabinet door would be like the cabinet is storing a mirror.

    So maybe I’m confused, is it not going through a lot of extra work to make sure that the baseboard is level? Like theoretically if u built it but didn’t level the baseboard I feel like no one could possible notice that? Is there another reason to do it that I missed?

  • @andyennis1414
    @andyennis1414 Рік тому +1

    If i used that philosophy on most of the remodels I’ve done I’d still be working there today.
    Your eye will not pick up a 1/4” difference in a 3’ span between your base and sill. Seems like a looot of work to run base in this house, scribe it, miter different lengths of base etc but then again if they’re paying for it😅

      because think about it… nick said “if the floors are 1/2” out of level you’d see it.” OKAY, so you’re going to scribe off 1/2” off that base?? now the base meeting it has to be cut 1/2”. what if that floors out of level too? take another 1/2” off? so now you’ve got 6” base in one corner and 5 1/2 to 5” on the other side? if youve ever done finish work you know you cant chase baseboards with scribing down hallways and around corners. it works for these guys because this house is like $5M and its MONEY. i bet they knock off 1/8”. get real…. finish carpenter rolling his eyes i agree

      because if i had to scribe every piece of baseboard i put in it would add potentially hours not minutes. clients always want this attention to detail but are almost never willing to pay it so we gotta get these kinds jobs done so we can move on to the next one. just put some shoe in and keep it movin. just make sure the damn casing you order is thick enough to still be proud when its all said and done. we always set base before the hardwood in new contruction. if your floor is that outta level that you would notice a reveal between baseboard and window, scribing is not gunna help. if someone is good enough to spot that they will spot the height in relation to the hardwood just as well.
