Hazel O'Connor is an icon to anyone who was a teen in the early 80's. Thank you for the music and the memories.
WILL YOU ..will always be in music mix...absolute classic ! 💚
Hazel started one of her acoustic tours in Newbury. It was a large auditorium, but only about 200 turned up. She invited us all down to the front rows, sat on the stage next to us and sang to us. I knew all the words to all the songs, as did many there, so Hazel really appreciated our feedback. The first half of the show was Breaking Glass orientated, but the second half she threw off the wig and did new stuff. Amazing.
I think she is great x
I love you Hazel
I would love to meet you you really amazing have bn a big fan of yours since breaking glass x
sounds like what she did with us in amsterdam,
Disappointing that only 200 people turned up.
Such amazing lady across the board. An icon of the 80s that was never given her due.
So true
I was a lil kid when my brother brought home breaking glass on vhs I was hooked to hazels unique punkish rhyming to me she was a prophetess love her still n I'm 49 now xxpeace be upon you Hazel xx
I was at the same school as Hazel at the same time in Coventry. I remember the teacher Miss Bates that she was talking about. Its good to know that she had such a profound effect on Hazel. I would love to know how many other people were inspired by Miss Bates the english teacher. I know I was. Hazel is still a great performer live. If you get the chance to see her you won't be disappointed.
Breaking Glass is such an underrated film. It's the only film about a band trying to make it where the music created for the film is superb.
That a fantastic interview. There's a great chemistry between them both. You can tell he has great respect for Hazel, and who wouldn't as she's an absolute legend and has such charisma.
Well said and well put !
Such a great, well-rounded, story-teller. Always loved Hazel's energy, spirit and brilliant humour.
This interview could really do with a second part.
Indubitably !
She is such a natural person and comes across so well
I heartily concur ! I adore her !
Brilliant interview. Hazel is so lovely.
I could not agree more. The interviewer does a wonderful job & Hazel is a beautiful person, inside & out !
Brilliant interview,I have been move by her music since 1985 when I first came to England.
Thank you Hazel for your music
Watxhed Breaking glass at the pictures as a young ounk, watched it again last night , brilliant!! 💙💚💛💜 hope your happy Hazel ,Max Liverpool England 🌎
I just love hazel , true punk icon , hope she’s doing well these days , ❤
Great stuff...What a life she has led....And she doesn't get bitter about things ! Nice one, Hazel x
I’m 61 now, so she’s a little older than me, but not really that much We were both young in the early eighties and I’ve always followed her career and music Always been an inspiration for me, and her ups and downs in life have always fascinated me God bless Hazel❤❤❤
Thank you for the interview.
I have listen much on Hazel in my 20' s and loved the movie. I have listen at some songs who made my energies vibrate later on . Now I just found this and I am so happy to listen on this wonderful lady and her remarkable life .
I love you Hazel!
Love you hazel xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!
I love her way of storytelling! ❤️
I heartily concur !
Brilliant interview.. saw Hazel recently in Coventry… absolutely superb concert. Still got such a big stage presence 💞
So interesting to hear...well done Hazel! You rock!
Its sad to know that she was struggling with so much trauma, it makes all that she achieved so much more incredible. The interviewer seems to take all her decisions literally & not seeing that her ‘free spirit’ was driven by constantly trying to escape that trauma. Beautiful woman, I was a big fan of hers back in 1980 & 80/81 was undisputedly the best ever year ever for chart music!
Thanks, both of you. An interesting conversation. A ‘talker’ with something to say prompted by an interviewer who listens and responds thoughtfully.
Fantastic, thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Yes, Will You is a long-term fave on mine too. Hazel can't half talk! Could have been twice as long. Thanks.
Thank you Iain McNay for putting this project together: Hazel this is fabulous. x
Brilliant. Love Hazel O'Connor. So talented 🌟
Hazel you are a much loved icon....
fantastic in-depth interview of a Wonderful, inspirational artist and person . get well Hazel !
What a fantastic interview. I truly enjoyed it & could easily sit through a few more hours of Hazel's life experiences & wisdom. Thanks for sharing!
Hazel is a lovely down to earth lady, I enjoyed her interview so much. She is so interesting 😀
@@carolecochrane8173 I resonate with your words so much. I was blown away by her life experiences and how much she's fit into her short time on this earth.
So true. I could listen to Hazel all day long....or all night long too for that matter !
Most ineresting interview i've ever seen, what an amazing woman and great interviewer.
Breaking glass was is and always will be a work of genius
Loved this, the interviewer managed to get Hazel to respond with such passion 👍.
Brilliant interview, really enjoyed this!!! :o))
Absolutely brilliant interview with an amazing lady. I went to Hazel’s show in Edinburgh and she was superb; afterwards she made time for every single person who wanted to speak with her, which was both gracious and generous. Quite a lady.
Brilliant interview..A wonderful woman an inspiration.Thankyou!
what a lovely person, and a great interview.
Thoroughly enjoyed this interview. What an amazing woman. Very strong willed as reflected in her music. Loved breaking glass ever since seeing it on late night channel then watched it sooooo many times after. I do love stuff like Decadent Days too but breaking glass. There's not a bad song on it. And still listen to it. On ye go. Hazel. Brilliant interesting lady interviewed by some guy resembling What I can imagine
Richard Stilgoe looking like nowadays. Looks like a bit of breakfast bar chat as Alan partridge would say. Great stuff
Hazel is lovey, so wonderful & a beautiful soul.
AWESOME!
Only recently came across the movie... its fascinating... oddly I was Luke warm on the punk scene back then tho I'm a big fan of teenage head with Frankie venom and the boys. Glad to see Hazel did well. Even through the drama/trauma. Cheers.
Blimey ! This is a little bit of "all right" ! I first became aware of this lovely and talented lady when I watched her film "Breaking Glass" on the USA Network's Friday late night program "Night Flight" back in the mid-80s ! Thanks so much for uploading this smashing interview ! CHEERS !! :-)
43:54 This part made me laugh so much. I love her humorously honest way of talking. So unpretentious and real. Underated performer. 😁
Always liked Hazel since Breaking Glass.......a rare British Gem, Looking forward to Henley Sat 13th April. Lovely Lady.
She was amazing! Was at Kenton last night. Absolutely brilliant
@@magsirwin7843 ....too ill to go, gutted. 🙁
My god girl you've had some life, hats off to you and yep I'm buying your book ; )
Thank you, Cherry Red! Forever Love!
I wish you a full recovery Hazel x
Can’t be rated out of ten. She’s one of the few who are above all that and resides in a high pantheon of the truly great. 👍❤️
Oh my God, I can relate to everything. The Morocco, therapist, Ibiza, and ex-hare Krishna thing. Wow. I haven't travelled to Morocco or Ibiza, but I have Spanish and Moroccan friends. I want to read her book now
This is one of the most interesting interviews i have ever listened to i did not want it to end.
Watched breaking glass the other day forgot how good the film was and how talented she was as a song writer.
In my punk days I loved Hazel and saw her play at the Brighton dome. At one point she said between songs, excuse me guys ,I know you mean we'll but could you stop effing going at me. I never heard that before or since. What a performer. Love Hazel O'connor.
Fantastic. Thanks Hazel.
I really enjoyed this interview/chat. I remember going to see Breaking Glass, when it was released and came to my local cinema, with my Dad. My sister was off doing something with my Mum, and he did not go to see films very often, and was not all that interested in pop music, either, but we went along together, and he seemed to really enjoy it. It was funny, because whatever certificate it was, i seem to remember thinking, afterwards, when we came out of the theatre, that i was not actually old enough to of seen it! It was the lp that came out after this, Sons and Lovers, that really hooked me, for some reason. Maybe it was the D H Lawrence reference, the cover of Danny Boy, or more than likely, seeing Hazel appear on Top Of The Pops, making her entrance wearing an overcoat, which she sussequently removed, to sing D Days, in her underwear. I was quite gobsmacked. Mary Whitehouse probably had a fit! Anyway, thanks a lot. I wonder if she ever met Jimmy Pursey, of Sham 69. I liked them, too. Hurry Up, Harry, and Hearsham Boys. I heard, from someone he grew up with, that he was not all that well, these days. Shame. They said that i reminded them of him. Maybe the attitude, or all the swearing. ✌️
Sons Ans Lovers is such an underrated album. Ir was so strange that, after all the success with Breaking Glass, it didn't even chart.
Phil Daniels never got a mention for some reason. The chemistry was amazing between them both in 1980 when he played her manager. Phil had just come from Making Quad with Sting around 1979. When Breaking Glass came out Hazel would have been around 25. I was 24 at the time .
I could sit with her for hrs n hrs. Such an interesting woman..loved her then love her now she gave me so much inspiration when I was a teen ""LOVE YOU""...Sending you healing ((hugs)) hun 🥰😘
Thanks for posting this, I’ve only recently managed to watch Breaking Glass and was curious about Hazel and the film, she’s had such a charmed life and didn’t know about some of the darker stuff she has sadly experienced but it’s good to know she’s still going strong and doing her own thing, proper talented lady and wish her all the best, about the film though.. I originally watched it on UA-cam as I could never find it anywhere and it was the American version which I didn’t realise ended with her performing the song on stage toward the end in the robot costume (incidentally looking like a character from Tron which hadn’t even been made yet! So I wonder if that’s a style that influenced that movie) and I seen in the comments that the film is supposed to continue with her having the breakdown and going to rehab, so I tracked down the proper uk version and I can’t believe the US would cut that section out!.. crazy.
She’s going through a very tough time but has great support to get her through . Hopefully we can hear her sing again ❤
Saw her live years ago, I believe Shropshire, totally amazing evening, Got to meet her after the show... lovely lady.
Amazing lady
What a wonderful interview
Facinating.
Great interview. Thanks
Really enjoyed this interview, brutally honest.
An absolutely brilliant interview
Wow, Hazel, you're amazingly interesting! 1st interview I saw of you. I had a friend at Leeds Met Uni that reminds me so much of you called Tez aka Teresa who now lives in Ibiza. All time classic of all time "Will You" and the Sax solo is in my hall of fame. I love your emotive connection. I find many a music benign on radar and tune in to the hot signals that don't pretend on emotions. Your character is a lesson for us werkin classies. x x x. x x x x x x. x x
Thank you so much for this!
What a lovely person and what a fascinating and somewhat tragic life story... I would love to meet her
A truly great woman. So unassuming.
Fantastic interview
What a wonderful interview and interesting facts.
What an amazing woman 💓💓😀😀💓💓
Brazent with a touch of lovliness - always a favourite with me.
Is there a blu ray release of the uncut version of Breaking Glass??
Amazing story
Love you so much Hazel darling
good interview
Looking at all of the views! Wouldn't you think they would bother their arses to like or dislike? Strange that to me.
I was hoping she might've told us what Phil Daniels was like to work with. Still a great interview. I never realized she had massive hammers until I saw this.
What a wonderful person very interesting person., should be allowed a lot more success in her life. Also get we'll soon love you.
Really interesting interview, and a fascinating person. I was only 12 when Breaking Glass was released, but Will You will always be one of my all-time favourite songs. Thanks Hazel.
she reminds me of Ziggy Stardust ever so much
A nice down to earth lady.
Love Haze
brilliant !
great interview
My neighbours in London founded The Roxy, Andrew and Susan Carrington.
brilliant
An important New Wave star, protogoth and she made Brechtian Punk Cabaret long before Amanda Palmer
Such days of freedom.....
Great in Chester last night.
A one lady song and dance play ... mended glass... might be an idea as a project?? ..🙂 just a thought.
Interesting
Riveting!
interesting interview what a tale she tells, but I wonder why he is surprised she had no formal musical training, Kate Bush also had none I do not think the every great musician has in fact quite the opposite.
UA-cam is mad! I have watched Iian Mcnay many times on the conscious TV channel and i watch Breaking Glass and then this pops up and then it says Iian Mcnay and think ...no it cant be man even the internet is a small world?
I went and watched breaking glass when I was about 16 great film, then wondered what happened to her, found her to be talented then she disappeared?.
Let's face it, Hazel has her knockers... but she's alright. Yes, she still has her knockers to this day lol
oh i knew a guy who killed himself to "will you" song, with it playing over and over,,it does have that feeling..R I P
This woman has never been right since having the covid INJECTION..
dont forget your 4th jab haze;
I’ve only just realised how racially divisive braking glass was…programming much?
