Honestly the sigh of relief when you said you're planning to make videos years into the future also everytime I see my favorite books on your shelf I'm immediately 10x happier and remember why you're my favorite booktuber!! :)
I just love how you keep things real. If you don’t like a book you’re not afraid to give your full honest opinion on it. While others beat around the bush with it. I’d love to start a Booktube channel but I wouldn’t know how to go about it. I’d love to get ARC’s though. But keep it up the good work. Love your videos and all books you’ve mentioned have been fantastic.
You should just go for it! I recently just started up my channel again after 3 years of not doing it. I never had a lot of subscribers but did it simply because I loved doing it! :)
This was so interesting!! I love your more personal videos like this! I've been on booktube for a little while now and I'm still under 1000 subs, it can be demotivating when I spend a lot of time on a video but it also means that I get excited by every new comment and every new subscriber!!
We might not always agree on books; but I always love your videos. I also respect how, if you don't like a book, you never make someone else feel bad for liking that book.
Omg the verbal tics! When I go back and edit my videos I immediately noticed I say ummm a lot and never realized it. 🤦🏼♀️ When you’re filming you just don’t hear it. I’m now a lot more lax on booktubers because it’s not easy to get rid of the tics without losing who you are and how you speak naturally, You don’t want to sound like you’ve overthought what you’re saying. I love that you made this video. Very laid back and chatty which is one of my favs to watch.
I somehow feel that your content in booktube is the freshest & original. You seem so confident & honest of what you make of the books you read & you are the most consistent Booktuber I have been watching since I spiralled down the journey of stories :)
I've always enjoyed your videos even if I disagree with some books you like or dont like. Bc we are adults that understand that we enjoy different things lol.
It really amazes me how you and other creators keep making content so consistently! I’ve been watching your channel since early 2016 and I’ve found so many favorites through it over the years: The Winternight Trilogy, N.K. Jemisin, and even The Machineries of Empire series, which you got me interested in even though you didn’t like it.
Thank you for making great content all these years and I’m so happy to hear you plan to continue for a long time. You have gotten me through a lot and always bring a smile to my face, so thank you. Looking forward to all your content :)
Love, love, love all your book tube videos. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to create joyful, beautiful content and sharing it with us. I am currently trying to find free/cheap and creative ways to stay calm and carry on reading, using books I already own. I have recently reread Harry Potter in reverse, starting with book 7, then book 6 ect. It was so much fun, experiencing the character arcs in reverse and trying to piece together prior relevant information, that was stored somewhere in my brain from the first time I read the books. Which was at least 7 years ago. I am currently rereading Six of Crows and Truthwich, simultaneously and having the best time ever. I only allow myself to read one chapter from each book and then I force myself to read the other book. Highly recommended it, makes it more exciting! Hope this all makes sense! Send much love, kindness and joy to you and your family from the UK xXx
Wow~ What a great video. First, I'm so glad you beat cancer! My mother is currently battling cancer. It started as pancreas and then it spread. Anyway, I love letter writing and have a handful of penpals. (me and the old ladies hanging on to pen and paper! LOL) I liked hearing how some channels helped you through tough times. My son and I are newbies at this and the community has been so amazing. We didn't know about booktube until June 2019. 👍📚 Keep up the great content.
Writing letters sounds so fun! I used to love having a pen pal when I was younger! I had a penpal in Norway and we'd send each other stuff from our counties and it was so awesome! Book nerd penpal would be such a fun idea! Write old fashion good ole letters and send cheap cute bookish things! My nerd self would geek out so hard for something like that!!
Foxhole court is very different from traditional media, and has many flaws you need to push through. That being said I love it to pieces and it hits me in just the right way despite its flaws. It's the first and only book/series that I immediately reread after finishing. I also read the entire series in 3 days while I was doing 12 hour shifts and did a full day volunteer thing on my day off.
Love your channel! I've been watching for almost 4 years. I'm a viewer from Japan (Japanese girl) and you make my day with your videos! I especially love your gush videos!
I love your take on why you dont prefer your casual acquaintances to watch your videos because they will learn stuff about you in a non organic way that cant be reciprocated. It's such a smart and self reflective concern!
This lipstick colour is stunning and suits you so well. I forgot I asked a question so I was like “oh this sounds familiar”. Thanks for answering! I’ve noticed most people who stop booktube after a long time is usually because they have a baby and they just don’t have time. I am not sure how you’ll feel about the foxhole court. It has a lot of your favourite tropes but it also has things I’m not sure you’d love. If you do read it I look forward to your thoughts!
I totally get you on wanting to get to know people organically. I've met a few people I've admired before and it's always been awkward and unpleasant for me, not because of the people who have almost always been lovely, but because the whole scenario feels uneven and contrived. I feel like that's something that could get me to clam up with book tubers though I have yet to meet anyone. Simply me knowing them or already feeling fond when I'm a complete unknown, you know? I'm hoping to attend BookNet Fest this year if the corona virus doesn't derail all my plans and so it'll be interesting how I go with that because I feel like it'll be a good environment where organic conversations and connections can be made but I can never predict what will trigger my social anxiety.
I am reading the Remnant Chronicles currently, as we are in Quarantine, not the best choice for peace of mind but a very good story and world. I just wanted to let you know pretty much all the books you have recomended that I have read, I have enjoyed. Also very much just enjoy your personality and intelligence.
You are such an interesting person. I can see why someone you didn't know would watch you. I think I've seen your videos for 2-3 years. I still enjoy your videos. :)
I love Smokey Glow's videos, she is so fun to watch. This AMA is a fun way to get to know you a little bit. I started out in the mom online community with a mom blog and it went from there. I can understand people feeling the pressure though b/c I felt pressure to put out content on my mom blog because it is a form of my income. Telling random people what I "do" when out in public is so odd to me lol like yea i'm a blogger and people look at me like I'm crazy.
Yes girl, preach it from the mountaintops about who/what makes a successful booktuber (white, well off, pretty, young). As a WOC viewer, I'm so so sick of that shit. And youtube doesn't help because during my many searchers for booktubers, guess what I see and don't see....I'm looking for diversity in content creators and in books. What do I mainly see? young white girls all reading the same books. Luckily I've found quite a few good diverse booktubers, but let me tell you it isn't easy to find.
Check out StarlahReads. She has a very charming and fun personality, I think. I found her by looking for reviews on Josh Malerman's 'Inspection' which sucked, by the way 😄
i didn't even notice the "like" thing hahaha probably because i also say it a lot unconsciously. to me it just sounds like the natural flow of the sentence!
😄 It’s so awkward for me when friends/family who know I have a channel tell new people about it. I’m like “... heh yeah I review books” and then look away.
Xènia Ungé Illa you’ll forget about it again lol there’s actually research that people that use verbal beats like that are more trusted because it’s more fluid speech than those that don’t 🤷🏻♀️
I’d love white wealthy pretty discussion. Second go around at an attempt at booktube. It’s fun, the friendships I’ve made make it worth it but it’s hard to not side eye how things work.
I totally get that 1k sub count thing. I've been here 2 years and it was only last month that I crossed 1k. It was morale-boosting but it also came to the point where the pressure I put on myself over the past couple of years took a toll on me. I'm on a break now. I know that the number will fall but I need my sanity right now. Also, do you change your outfits and makeup if you're filming multiple videos in a row?
I want to make a booktube channel so bad, but I dont know if I have the time or money to do it. I'm a high school senior so I dont even have my own income yet.
@@maitlandjohnson85 I'm very grateful for my library but it's quite small. It also has a very limited YA and fantasy section which is what I primarily read. I use libby a lot but I just love holding a real book way more than an audiobook or ebook

It makes a bit of sense that you don't see poor people on BookTube. They can't possibly afford this book-buying hype that has been trendy for years. It is just how it is.
@@ThoughtsOnTomes the first book is pretty meh and most people love it for the emotional payoff and character development in the third book. So know that going in (:
Thoughts on Tomes I don’t even know what to look for. Haha. I started looking at book tube and found you and a couple others that don’t fit that specific description. 🤷🏼♀️ Life is funny. Im not mad.
