Quick share: when you decide your towels are no longer usable, consider donating them to your local animal shelter. They take blankets as well.

I do this about once a year. I go through my house and gather up all the old kitchen and bath towels, wash clothes etc. My shelter also will take pillow cases and a great place to donate old sheets to is your local high school, college, or arts center ceramic studio. Ceramics studios also love to get dry cleaning bags which are harder and harder to come by with more people working at home or just not using dry cleaners anymore.

My great grandmother used bluing in her white clothes when I was young, therefore my gram and my mom did as well. I have been using it for our family for over 40 years.
Adding bleach to your clothing breaks down the fibers and cuts down on life. Vinegar is all I ever use as a "fabric softener" so I never have that smell in my towels. Fabric softener holds on to the smells. Eliminate that and you shouldnt have that problem anymore.
Good luck on your laundry journey.

Great tips, Mai! In addition to washing clothes you want to preserve longer inside out, I generally hang dry whatever I can, then fluff it in the dryer with wool dryer balls on the no heat setting.

I always get giving out too, why are all our clothes inside out mammy, as they stay in good condition that way when being washed

I love the separate baskets. I have different hampers too!! Husband greasy work clothes, my clothes, towels, and my son's clothes. Makes laundry super easy!

A teaspoon of tea tree oil in your regular detergent will kill the stank on towels or sweaty work wear. With the towels make sure they are drying 110%, any moisture lingering will bring back the stink.
Totally agree with kids doing their own laundry. That’s the only way they’ll be self sufficient when we send them out into the world! Mine has been doing his since second grade.

I only "sort" my delicates from normal, because duh, I'm not washing my super soft knitted sweater with my fiance's jeans, but light and dark goes together! We wash on cold and dry on one tick higher than cold, and never had an issue. I wash everything inside out because of prints and pilling, plus that's the dirtiest part...usually.
We have to do lots at once as a 2 person household because I bring my laundry to my mom's house from my apartment. It's exhausting but we have 2 bins and switch em out as I'm doing it. One of the best "hacks" is to clean your washer! It can get gross! There are recipes online for homemade cleaning or things you can buy, and it's definitely necessary!

More helpful hacks- The Container Store has stackable laundry hampers that are amazing. Fold clothes right out of the dryer before you load a new load. For deep clean (funky towels workout clothes etc) you can do a laundry additive called RLR.

The laundry strips are excellent. Every single company should be making these instead of using huge plastic bottles. I put the strip towards the bottom of the load but still having direct contact with the water to get them to dissolve.

I always have clothes separate so I can wash & fold or hang right out of dryer & put back where it belongs. I also have boys & a hubby that I won't wash my clothes with🤣 a long time ago I started using the lysol laundry detergent cuz kids sometimes do not do a great job of wiping or manly stanky pits. I've used the white bright but never tried the blue detergent so I'll have to get some. Thanks for the video 🙂

@griselda WE I use white vinegar. I find it in either cooking or cleaning isle. It's the same in both.

I stopped folding my kids’ laundry early on, too. Before they were big enough to actually do laundry on their own, it was their job to sort laundry (I have 4 minions and they teamwork this quest/chore). I actually struggle to put *anything* away, so I’ll fold mine and my husband’s laundry, and he’ll put it away to include hanging up those items that don’t go in drawers. We also use wool dryer balls in our dryer, I *think* they’re supposed to help your clothes dry faster, but I’m not sure as actual laundry is done by one of my teenagers.

I love the no sort method! I need to better implement this! I was doing a whites basket, an all colors basket and a towels basket (because I like to sanitize them) BUT now I’m going to try by person baskets + an all whites basket &&& get some color catcher for when I’m nervous about it lol

Heeeeeeck yes to sorting by person!! I’m a mom of five, and even though we have twins, we’re dealing with seven different sizes of clothes (darn that itty bitty twin!!). I also do the no fold bin method. Anything that ends up ridiculously wrinkled gets wrinkle releaser. One more thing I do is check for stains between the washer and dryer. If something’s stained, it gets one more ride through the wash. If it doesn’t come out then, big old shrug. I’d rather spend my time on… anything but endlessly fighting laundry stains.

We have a little laundry basket with elephants on it for our whites (which is mostly my husband's socks). So we don't say socks in our household - it's "I need to wash elephants" or "Don't forget about your elephants!"
    😂

I have been struggling so hard with my white towels and sheets getting so yellow and icky smelling. I did the vinegar and hot water method today. I actually let the towels soak for a half hour after in the solution and then when I was putting them in the dryer, I realized I always just press the automatic dry button for almost all my laundry. But this doesn't get very hot which made me wonder if a hotter dryer cycle for towels would kill the stuff that makes them smell. So I did hottest water in the was and the hottest, driest setting on the dryer and they turned out beautiful. So fresh. I used the cleaning vinegar from the dollar store so the price was right as well.
