I worked in a mini mill, and we had an extensive line of products and numerous alloy recipes. Some of the higher alloyed billets, when out of spec would be run as rebar which had wider spec range. Sometimes, when dropped the rebar would shatter due to hardness. Cheers!
I have seen some make a centre punch, but the steel grade is no less than a crap shoot to make something more useful than.... well, re-bar. 🙂@@Smallathe
These are japanese files with specific rockwell numbers. It's not cheap, but it's affordable (check on ebay: TSUBOSAN MA00600 Hardness Tester Checker File HRC40-HRC65 Set) 63$ or so.
