Is the NICU bad for work life balance? I’m in adult cardiac PCU and looking to transfer into peds, NICU, or women’s services because I heard those units are better for work life balance

You seem like a great girl. Really beautiful as well. I have to say you look really overworked and far underpaid for all your hard work. Did you know that in Northern California they pay more than double what you make for the same job. In many cases more than quadruple. Nor Cal hospitals are all mostly union and offer huge pension along with medical benifits for you and your entire family. The average RN earns over 300k a year base pay for 3 12hr days. 3 on 4 off. The pay scale is around 130hr. 195ot & 260dt. Some hospitals offer offer 150hr. Many RNs earn over 500k a year and work a few extra shifts on there 4 days off. They also offer part time RN positions. The most popular is 24hrs. 2 12's on 5 days off. Part timers earn well over 150k a year plus pension and medical benifits. Thats more money than full time RNs earn around the country! Im a mentor and work with RNs that want to move to the area. I also teach them financial strategies. Because you earn so much money one strategy is to buy a lot or a home in your home state or town and pay it off quickly from your high Ca income. Many RNs learn that they can pay a home off where they come from in 3-5 years. This way if they want to go home after 5 years they will earn less than half the money but they will have a home paid off in full when they go home. Or they buy a lot and have a home built on it. Some just buy a few acres in a place they want to retire and then build a home on it later and buy a home in Ca for investment. Then there are those that invest there income heavy for 5 to 10 years and make several million dolllars. Then they can easily quit nursing and live the rest of there life making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year off the interest from there investments. Life is to short to work so hard and earn low wages as an RN. Northern Ca has the highest paid RNs in the world. In many cases they make much more money than doctors have a better pension and hours and have way less school and debt. I know several doctors who tell me all the time they wish they would have become an RN. Nothern Ca is hiring RNs in all kinds of postions. Did you know that most of the big hospitals will pay for your school to upgade from a two year AA degree RN to a 4 year BA or a Masters? Not only will they work with you on your hours so you can go back to school they will pay for the entire thing! No need to go into debt for school. Then after you graduate they will give you another nice bump in pay. Especially for a masters degree. Master degree RNs earn even more money and are offered top management positions. You should consider doing some research on northern Ca RN wages. Go to youtube and check out the "Nurses To Riches" channel. Watch all the videos. The biggest financial strategy is "Become an RN & Marry an RN" RN couples earn 600k - 1 million a year. Did you know there are now several dating apps just for RNs? You must show you RN license to join. The top 5 people RNs in Ca end up marrying are, other RN's, doctors, police, fireman & pilots. All these are top pay high six figure jobs with large retirement pensions. A 5-10 year career as an RN in nor Ca will change and secure your financial future forever. You just need to pick a strategy that meets your goals. The key is working for the right hospital in the right area. You dont want to work in the high cost of living areas as you spend way to much on housing. The key is to live and work on the outside ring of the high pay jobs. "Hint - Roseville/Sacramento or Modesto/Oakdale" The number one thing I hear from RNs I work with after they relocate is, "I wish I would not have waited so long". Again Im a mentor and work with many people on all these strategies. Do yourself a favor and do the research. What ever you do get a mentor to guide you so you don't make any mistakes in living or working in the wrong places. A mentor or a coach will make sure you start off in the right place from the start and don't waist any time working or living in the wrong place. Beware! This can be a very costly mistake! If you have any questions I would be happy to help. Just let me know. Ill shoot you my email. All the best to you.
