  • We’ve all heard the cliché that skateboarding is mostly mental, and it’s true. But no one’s talking about why it’s true and what you can do to take control of your mental power. In this video I go over a growth mindset vs fixed mindset, and how your mindset affects literally everything, especially your skating. Along with how you can unleash the power of your mind to skate better and get what you want.

When I did my first kickflip down an 8 stair a dude at the skate park saw me and said "you got to stop being a bitch and either go for it or go skate something else" landed it after 2 tries of him telling me that. Skating is super mental, huge reflection of life I feel like.

Sometimes I wanna just get the trick over with and other times I’m set on getting something new and get it… it most def is a mental game 😎💪

I live the Philly and the skate culture here is so awesome and extremely intimidating. I’m not a new skater, but for the past year I’ve only done longboarding. I’ve recently started going back to skateparks and watching everyone easily hit insane grinds and gaps while I can barely Ollie is super frustrating. I know you shouldn’t compare yourself, and that’s not what this is. I feel like im getting in everyone’s way by not being good enough

You really do have top notch content. I do know a lot of what you cover in these sorts of videos but it is so helpful to have it said back to me. Our mind is a funny thing man, its like I know certain thinking patterns are harmful but it can be so damned hard to rewire. I'm pushin 40 and just getting back on my skate after almost 2 decades, your content has been so helpful and I'm very glad I stumbled on it the other day.

Ive been skating for 15 years, been at an intermediate level for the last 5 years or so - back smith grinds, hardflips, back 3, front tails - whatever. Lately I have regressed to the level of a complete novice. Like, I’m whiffing flatground ollies and can’t kickflip to save my life, 5050’s have become difficult and scary. Essentially tricks I have been doing for years, things I have been very confident with, even just my comfort level riding the board has dwindled to an embarrassing point. It’s as if I lost all of my ability overnight. There was no large break in skating either, just a few months ago none of this was a problem. Anyone experience this? I’m having a mental breakdown everytime i try to skate because I can’t even get myself to do a flatground kickflip. Can 15 years of muscle memory just disappear? SOS I’m having a really hard time coping with the fact that my catharsis has become a huge bummer

Your age, physical/mental health, diet, and exercise routines all affect your skateboarding. I've been in the same situation myself, except I abused alcohol to cope with my mental health issues. As a result, it affected my physical health. Although I was starting to progress at transition, my ability to skate street regressed because my reaction time slowed down tremendously. Feeling embarrassed and afraid, I just kind of gave up on relearning street skating years ago.
It took me a good while to finally to exercise again. After two years, I'm now starting to get my street fundamentals unlock again. I skated a street styled skatepark two weeks ago, and that session sparked my motivation to relearn street skating. No matter how goofy I felt, I kept reminding myself that it's not easy and it's okay to struggle. I'm at a point where I don't care about relearning flip tricks, as long as I can ollie over stuff and able to do decent boardslides, I'm satisfied. Please try to remind yourself that skateboarding is fun and how much you enjoyed learning the tricks you had unlock despite the struggles. You'll get them back again in no time.

I have been skateboarding non-stop since 2012. I am 25 years old now. I experienced this situation. When we are in a difficult situation mentally, it affects our physical performance. Stay strong and believe that you are in it all Peace

I am 51, this past year my dexterity deteriorated to a point where I can’t trust my body. I can’t fall anymore. I just slam on silly things. I have had to switch to other forms of exercise to help me rebuild/strengthen my joints and twitch muscles.

its so weird i think about flicking my left foot proper then my right foot has a mid of its own when trying to kick flip. like i will feel my right foot on the board then all of a sudden it steps off the board on its own when i can feel my foot catch the board. same happens when i think about popping proper with my right foot my left foot will just not flick proper and slide right off as if there is no grip. but then if i just think kick flip and only think kick flip or i keep a blank mind it happens it wont happen all the time but i do notice if i just not think about it too much it will happen more. it's so confusing at times but it's fun idk maybe im crazy

I think more importantly is sleep. I find myself not being really into skating if i am tired. Cant land tricks, its probably because ya body needs sleep to have energy. Anyways see tomorrow, going to bed cause i gotta go slave at my job. Lol

not gonna lie when i was pulling b2b2b2b overnights i got some of my best progression at the time off of 1-2 hours of sleep a night (albeit i had no choice and probably could’ve progressed much further with adequate sleep)
