Thank you soo much for the video especially showing how to clean it. I'm about to clean my carpets again and been so frustrated because I thought it would just have to look the way it did.(ugly and dirty) I came on UA-cam for drying help, forgot all about that my cleaner had issues been looking at videos all evening(instead of getting my place ready for cleaning- 😄 and came across your video and wanted you to know it was excellent. Do have a question though, how do you get the plastic piece off and back on again?(did unscrew it) Really nervous to mess with it since I'll be needing. Again, thank you soo much. Now I'll use more. 😊
Hi Michelle, the plastic piece located on the bottom of the machine can be removed by unscrewing the screws. Once the plastic piece is removed you will have access to remove the brush roll and clean out any debris in the system. There is a belt located inside the machine attached to the brush roll. Just take note how the belt is attached before removing it so you can replace it back the same way. Thanks for watching, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video.

@@michelledcarter I'm glad you were able to get your machine clean. I love the Hoover PowerDash but cleaning the machine can be tricky. Lately, I've been using a rag to wipe out the clear plastic guard instead of dissembling the entire. It makes clean up so much quicker. If you need any more help, I will be happy to help.
Thanks for the video. One thing though... you might want to dump the dirty water down the toilet rather than your kitchen sink, due to all the hair and debris. You don't want to clog your disposal. 🤔
You’re welcome. I now discard the dirty water in the toilet. It‘s a lot easier to dump the water in the toilet and flush it away and not have to worry about the extra clean up in the sink.
My elderly mom got this for Christmas for her 3 room apartment, and told me it was my Christmas present... getting to do her floors. It was actually so fun! This manoeuvres really really well, and is very light. I did each room twice with the cleaner (the first go, it is really black like she shows here... the second time it is still picking up grime), and then twice with just clean water. The carpets looked like new, and the pile was lifted so much we could see our footprints indented... we certainly couldn't before. We can see these bunches of fuzz as she cleans that she calls "dust bunnies"... actually, as we walk, the carpet yarn gets all frizzled and fuzzy on the top. As the brush on this cleans and rotates, it actually removes this, like a defuzzer on an old sweater. You get globs and globs of it off, and then the carpet looks like it was just installed. So no, vacuuming will not take that off before you clean. It really is this cleaner which is removing that fuzz. I actually enjoyed using it so much that I did her bedroom and livingroom in the same day. It is very satisfying to see the grime in the dirty water tank, and the results on the floor. I certainly dumped the dirty water into the toilet, not the sink. You don't want all those clumps of fibres clogging your sink. I didn't remove the brush as she did... I just rinsed it under the tap while pulling off the hair/fuzz. It worked well enough. I absolutely recommend. I am here making sure that this model is the model my mom bought since I'd like one for myself. (oh, and there are different cleaning solutions... I believe we bought unscented... in any case, we are all scent-sensitive, and the rooms didn't smell of flowery cleaner)
I just received my cleaner today and tried it out. I'm an arthritic senior lady and I love how easy it is to use.. It took me a minute or so to figure out how to remove the dirty water tank, but then I looked at the picture in the manual and saw it was being removed with the handle in its upright position. I am glad the video shows how to remove the clear plastic nozzle because I was afraid to pull it out. Thank you for the video.
Thank you SO MUCH for describing how to remove/reinstall the dirty water tank. I was struggling to do it with the handle down, the handle needs to be UP. Thanks again!
There are 2 tips I found to be helpful 1. Thoroughly vacuum area 1st to remove as much hair and dirt as possible 2. I like to release the solution onto carpet for about 1 minute before turning it on with the red pedal. That allows to solution to penetrate a bit before being sucked up and gives a deeper clean.
Excellent demo Michelle. I bought one and am very satisfied. Your demos rock, very efficient and informative, you don't spend four minutes opening the box, hahaha, thank you again.
I just bought mine today and I love it. I just put my hand in brush to clean I don't take it apart, it's a vacuum it doesn't have to be brand new everytime you use it, but good to remove dust balls and debris to make it clean better.
Great demo. Got it from Canadian Tire last week, same price. ( Returned the one from W-Mart for $129.99+Tax ) Very satisfy what it turnout. May i suggest should do a good vacuum before cleaning the carpet, it helps to pick up the amount of dirt and hair and I don't even have a pet. And finally, please don't pour the dirty water into the kitchen sink. 😁😁
The sale price was hard to pass up. I vacuumed off camera 😊 that was all the junk stuck deep in the carpets. The Hoover did an amazing job digging out all the hair balls. It’s scary what lingers in the carpets. Thanks for watching, enjoy your machine and seeing all the satisfying results....I sure did 🤣
I just got this Carpet cleaner, and i like it a lot. The 1 issue i don't care for is the container that the clean water is in being so small. Having to refill it alot. I have always gone with Hoover and ny experience with the larger cleaners seens like This one works so much better than the bigger cleaners. I would recommend it.
I was pleasantly surprised how well this little carpet cleaner worked. It’s a great buy. I agree about the clean water tank, I found I have to refill it a lot during the cleaning process.
I recently purchased this Hoover Powerdash carpet cleaner from Kohl’s for $80.00. I haven’t used it yet, but I have several Hoover products, so I think I will be satisfied. Thanks for sharing.
I love mine! ❤ I’ve had it for about 12 months. I watched a newer video by another poster. It appears the dirty water tank on the newer one comes apart for easier rinsing/cleaning and the front cover is easier too. Overall I love this cleaner 😊
We bought this and I used it a little while ago for the first time. All of the solution seemed to gush out right at the beginning--even when I didn't push the trigger. I passed a lot of time sucking it all up. I ended up using 3 bottles of the solution just to do our 2 hallways (one is about 15-20' long, and the intersecting one about 10-12'. It left the carpet pretty wet, so it will take until tomorrow to dry. Yes it was fairly easy to assemble (although both ends of the staff on step 1 looked alike in the tiny schematic). I do like the compactness of it, but the solution's ejecting is a bit problematic. I pre-vacuumed and still the shampooer shot out a lot of clumps of fur, but that's typical since our very cumbersome Bissell pet shampooer did that too. We need a better vacuum too, since ours is a $42 Bissell upright that takes bags. So I'm pretty certain that it's not really doing a good job. Recommendations for a good (hopefully that takes bags) fairly-priced vacuum welcomed.
Thank you! To avoid taking apart the machine to clean it, I now use a cloth and wipe out the brush roll area it helps save time. I’ll only take the machine apart when I want a good deep clean. It’s a great little cleaner but the cleaning of the machine can be a pain. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your video. I just used my Hoover Power Dash for the first time and I am not sure that my brush roll is moving/rolling as I clean the carpets?? I re- read the manual and am HOPING that I don't have to unscrew all the phillips screws to get to the belt and make sure the belt is on there and not twisted. Could it be that the brush roll IS moving / rolling and it is just rolling so fast that I cannot see it rolling? THANK YOU for your advice. Great video.
The screws will need to be removed to check the belt. The brush spins really fast, it might give off the illusion the brush isn’t spinning. But it’s worth checking the belt to make sure it’s not twisted. Thanks for watching!
I think I may have found a loose part but I'm not sure where it goes. It's about an inch & a half "cup" with a black rubber rim. The rest is a bright orange and it appears to be a strainer, having holes in the bottom & a mesh fabric along the sides. Any idea what it could be & where it belongs? TIA!

Michelle, please for the health of your family, do not dump your dirty water in the sink, use the toilet! The things being picked up fecal material, urine as well as just plain dirt. You introduce into your cooking area much toxic material that you stand an excellent chance of not getting cleaned even if you do a bleach soak and rinse afterwards. Sinks are for washing dishes, thawing some foods and washing things like vegetables. I have taught foodservice certification in health and if you were a restaurant this violation might warrant closure of your establishment, that's how serous the matter is. Thank you for your time, your review, I just purchased one of these, I had hoped it would be easier to clean. I don't get it with these companies that make it so difficult to clean the unit. The small filter near the back of the machine near the power button drops into place inside the hole. It doesn’t seem to lock into place (at least not on my machine) so it will be a bit loose enough to pull back out without twisting it. I hope this helps.
I used the power dash for the first time today. After I do a run with the carpet cleaner solution, do I need to go back with clear water to rinse? Thanks.
You can go over the area with just water for an extra rinse afterwards. Michelle, i have had this hoover power dash pet for months! Read manuel, over and over and cannot figure why my machine, WILL NOT PICK UP THE WATER! Any suggestions???? Help, ready to toss and loose my money!! Thank you, Catherine Smith, Texas
Hi Catherine, Here are a few suggestions, check the dirty water tank doesn’t have any debris stuck inside that could trigger a false reading the tank is full and cause loss of suction. You can also check the brush belt is on correctly. I mistakenly put the belt on incorrectly once and the brush didn’t rotate. Also check the filter is clean located under the dirty water tank. Check the dirty water tank is securely in place. If you tried all these suggestions I would contact Hoover to find out if they can help out fixing the issue.
For a small carpet cleaner, I agree it does a great job. The tank does need to be refilled frequently when cleaning a large area. I have to refill the tank a couple of times when I wash my living room area rug. Thank you for watching!
Greetings from 🇨🇦. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I’m pretty impressed how the Hoover performs. It’s nice to have a small carpet cleaner but still does a great job. Thank you so much for watching.
Watches machine and I've used it three times. For some reason the on-and-off button will not work I've taken out all the screws and I can't seem to get the wheels off the cover off to find out what stop turning on and off
Hi there, does anyone have recommendations for a carpet cleaner to use along with this machine? I'm also curious how the machine deals with carpet odors, has anyone gotten rid of odors after using this machine? :)
Sunshine & Raindrops I’ve used the Hoover revive and renew solution with my machine. After cleaning the carpet the room smelled very fresh. The smell isn’t over powering.
Really wasn't expecting it to get rid of cat urine stink but pleasantly surprised to smell none of it after shampooing. Really hard to clean the brush guard. Cat hair is jammed in an area that I can't each. Have to take bottom off by unscrewing 5 screws. It's annoying & time consuming. Need a design that is easier for fast total clean up of brush guard area.
I just got mine 2 days ago so I cleaned my carpet today but I was just wondering if there is another way of pouring the dirty water ? The orange spout says “quick pour spout” 🤷🏻♀️
@@MesseswithMichelle so weird because I noticed as I empty it that water was coming out from other part but I guess I will keep it clean that way. Thanks a lot

Yes same here, i was using it, cut it off, now no power, i waited few weeks went to push power pedal it came on but i cut it off again no power. Cant find no videos on how to take the pedal apart and fix it
Can you turn off the heat? I'll be cleaning dog accidents (senior Frenchie is having some potty issues) so I don't want to lock in the scent with heat. Thanks!
Having heard time finding replacement belts.I ordered off line and belts broke. I have replaced belts for years .You need to show tutorial for belt replacement. I don't know what I am doing wrong.Frustating.
The Hoover PowerDash in the video is only for carpeting. The Hoover Floormate and PowerDash hard floor cleaners can be used to clean laminate and tile.
I literally just took a washrag and ran it around the brushes at the bottom and cleaned everything out without having to unscrew everything, work smarter not harder
You can clean the roller after each use by dissembling the machine and removing the brush. Personally, taking the machine apart after every use is a bit of a pain for me. I usually will wipe the base with a microfibre cloth and remove any large debris by hand from the brush. I will only remove the brush when I want to do a really good deep clean.
After the hassle of taking the machine apart, I've started to wipe out the roller guard and bottom of the machine with a cloth. I only take apart the machine when I have to deep clean it. I wish the cleaning process was more user friendly.
Buy an ACTUAL carpet cleaner. These Hoovers are completely junk!!! Super hard to take apart to clean, they break super easy and don’t last even a month thanks to its Cheap designed motor. This is my 4th unit and they go straight to the shop to get fixed. Buy bissell!!! I love my bissell!!
The water tanks are fairly easy to clean. The area with the roller can be tricky to clean. To deep clean the machine you have to disassemble the bottom to take the roller out. The last time I used my machine I just used a cloth and wiped as much of the roller area as possible without having to take it apart.
It is a good product. But ours is broken still under warranty, customer service is impossible to work with. I am so disappointed at a well respected company.
I love mine ! But taking it apart and cleaning it and u screwing everything is what I hate MOST !!!!! That’s the worst design and when you empty the dirty water out of the tank it takes forever and then it’s still wet on the inside because you can’t get every drop out so now mine I getting rust spots . Really disappointing but it works great and does the job just after you deep clean your carpets you have to deep clean the machine and that’s a pain !
I'm actually going to use mine today but not looking forward to the clean up as well. It does a great job on the carpets but I agree, not fun to clean afterwards. I'm glad you mentioned the rust spots, it's definitely something I'm going to look for on my machine.

Question I don't have a pett but can you use this machine to clean your capet.
Yes the Hoover cleans carpets. I use mine to clean wall to wall carpeting in my bedrooms.
It cleans great. But i find the water tank empties really fast. Unless this is a flaw?
For a small carpet cleaner, I agree it does a great job. The tank does need to be refilled frequently when cleaning a large area. I have to refill the tank a couple of times when I wash my living room area rug. Thank you for watching!
Just used mine today, trouble getting the carpet fibers out from the roller, what a mess😮
Do you have to have a pet to use it?
Excellent commentary!
Thank you!
Thank you for this, i will order one. Greetings from Perth australia!
Greetings from 🇨🇦. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I’m pretty impressed how the Hoover performs. It’s nice to have a small carpet cleaner but still does a great job. Thank you so much for watching.
@@MesseswithMichelle fyi, its called "VAX Compact Power Carpet Washer" or simply "Vax VX97" here, you could add that to the description
@@nikchris69 Thank you! I didn't know the carpet cleaner went by a different company name outside of the US and Canada. It's good to know.
Watches machine and I've used it three times. For some reason the on-and-off button will not work I've taken out all the screws and I can't seem to get the wheels off the cover off to find out what stop turning on and off
I just got this one and plan to only use it for spit cleaning.
How do you RINSE the carpet??
Fill the solution tank with only water, no solution and repeat the same steps as cleaning the carpet.
@@MesseswithMichelle Thank you 😊
Hi there, does anyone have recommendations for a carpet cleaner to use along with this machine?
I checked the manual and it only shows the quick pour option to discard the dirty water.
@@MesseswithMichelle so weird because I noticed as I empty it that water was coming out from other part but I guess I will keep it clean that way. Thanks a lot
@@MesseswithMichelle I’am suscrib
@@yahairacrespo7459 I tried to remove the top where the handle is located. It slide out a bit but it was on really tight so I stopped. There might be another way. It would be handy to be able to take off the lid to allow the container to dry out.
@@yahairacrespo7459 Thank you!!
TY so much; watching your video I can see what it is & what it's for. I'm such a moron!
Does this machine clean sofas?
The PowerDash does not have attachments to clean sofas but Hoover has other carpet cleaners in their line that include attachments for upholstery.
I have this machine I have used it three times and for some reason now I can't get the butt on and off. I've taken all the screws out well I still can't get it apart to find out why the on-and-off button is not working. I need a video to show me how to get the bottom off.
Yes same here, i was using it, cut it off, now no power, i waited few weeks went to push power pedal it came on but i cut it off again no power. Cant find no videos on how to take the pedal apart and fix it
Does the soap come with it??
Yes, I believe my machine came with a trial size solution.
Stuff, Of course not.
Can I use this without water as well ?
The Hoover requires water.
Can you turn off the heat? I'll be cleaning dog accidents (senior Frenchie is having some potty issues) so I don't want to lock in the scent with heat. Thanks!
The Hoover does not use heat. It just needs warm water in the tank. I have a Frenchie as well, his name is Duke. How old is your Frenchie.
Do a nother video on the Bissell pro heat
Colton Tucker do you want to see a review or a comparison to the Hoover?
A comparison
I was so rude on my first comment I'm sorry please forgive me and again I'm sorry
I get one today looks 👍
What are the pedals for?
The red pedal is to power on the machine and the grey pedal with the foot icon is to tilt back the handle.
Why would u vacuum after u shampoo and not before?
I vacuumed before off camera. All the hair left on the carpet was pulled up with the carpet cleaner that was embedded in the carpet.
Having heard time finding replacement belts.I ordered off line and belts broke. I have replaced belts for years .You need to show tutorial for belt replacement. I don't know what I am doing wrong.Frustating.
YOU CAN'T BEAT A SHARK!
Sold me, thanks
It is a great carpet cleaner especially for the size.
You forgot to show us how to use the "nozzle cleanout brush" and if that thing attaches to the machine in any way...
Does anyone know where to buy the part at 3:59 I can’t find the replacement filter anywhere
Maria Pineda Hi Maria, I checked as well and I couldn’t find it anywhere. I checked Hoover’s website and couldn’t even find it on there.
check ebay or aliexpress. search google by part number and description.
Mine won’t suction up the water
Does anyone know if it will clean a tile or laminate
The Hoover PowerDash in the video is only for carpeting. The Hoover Floormate and PowerDash hard floor cleaners can be used to clean laminate and tile.
are you canadian?
Yes I am.
I literally just took a washrag and ran it around the brushes at the bottom and cleaned everything out without having to unscrew everything, work smarter not harder
I did the same, the last time I used it. There was no way I was taking it apart again...only when I really need too. It worked really well.
do you have to clean roller ever time you use it
You can clean the roller after each use by dissembling the machine and removing the brush. Personally, taking the machine apart after every use is a bit of a pain for me. I usually will wipe the base with a microfibre cloth and remove any large debris by hand from the brush. I will only remove the brush when I want to do a really good deep clean.
@@MesseswithMichelle thx
Can you clean up dog doo doo stains?
cleaning out the roller and front is indeed a pain and a big negative. I take the shower head to it to flush it out.
This is super informative butttt that carpet was clean enough to eat off of lol
You don't need to take this apart to clean. Just let the material caught dry out and take husband's air compressor to remove it.
After the hassle of taking the machine apart, I've started to wipe out the roller guard and bottom of the machine with a cloth. I only take apart the machine when I have to deep clean it. I wish the cleaning process was more user friendly.
Oh no not in the sink 🤯
Disappointed that you didn’t show use of the attachment tool!
It is very difficult to clean the tank anybody else having this problem?
The water tanks are fairly easy to clean. The area with the roller can be tricky to clean. To deep clean the machine you have to disassemble the bottom to take the roller out. The last time I used my machine I just used a cloth and wiped as much of the roller area as possible without having to take it apart.
$88.00 at ChinaMart
It is a good product. But ours is broken still under warranty, customer service is impossible to work with. I am so disappointed at a well respected company.
I thought the video was good but I think it would help if you spoke a little more slowly.
Why not show how to get the dirty water bucket BACK in the machine ? We can’t because of that god awful grey bar they have on there
Are you referring to the grey bar inside the dirty water tank?
My machine wont turn on help
