Did radio signals originally control the whistle tender and E unit? I wonder if any owners, with an electronics background, later improved the reliability of the car and locomotive circuits by incorporating transistors and other additional electronic parts?

Wish I did but the ECV cars and control box are rare, hard to find, expensive and probably don’t work anymore after 70 years.
