What is Creative Canvaswork? Like tapestry and needlepoint but more fun.

- Creative Canvaswork is in the same family as needlepoint and tapestry. It involves stitching into an even weave canvas. There are plenty of set stitches you can look up and try. But the idea of creative Canvaswork allows you to step out from the rigidity of using patterns and the accepted forms and use that same canvas to be creative and add in whatever you like.
I use different threads and yarns, fabric, fancy yarns, beads, etc to take it in the direction that I want. But what I really like to do is colour the canvas with dye or paint. Why? So that the gaps don’t show up as white if you use a thinner thread, but mainly because you can leave parts of the background uncovered and save having to stitch all over. Have a look here in this tutorial at what you can do with a bit of canvas.

Loved listening and watching…for a long time cross stitcher and newby to needlepoint which requires precision…..your exercise lesson here is so freeing….using bits and bobbles gathered over time…..packing it up to bring along in a small bag is perfect for a 15-to 30 minute stitch along…..right now I am single crocheting round/circular rag rugs made of strips of old sheeting ( they wear like iron) and my blood pressure at a grand age of 73 feels like a relaxed teenager again…..the pleasure of the fibre….always ready to give back…..
yes Sherry! Surrounding myself with fabulous fibre is me in my happy place!
I think a trip to the local craft store is in my future so I can get some of this. I haven't even thought about the canvas in over 50 years!
But it has so much to give! Enjoy!
Thank you 🎉
I have a large canvas piece…that I have been avoiding, due to its size.
You’re a genius ❤ Now I’ll add fabric, ribbon…etc
Exactly! thanks Donna!
Very lovely Tracey. I did enjoy this different approach…much more doable. 😊👏🏼🌻🦋
Thanks Trish! It certainly is 😀
I love it! I used to do a lot of needlepoint and latch hook . Thanks for sharing what else can be done with them!
You are so welcome Marilyn, so often we just forget about things we used to do!

Thanks Faye, it is good fun 😀
Beautiful intuitive work ❤. Would you do a section on different fabrics and how they can be ‘texturised’, please. Many thanks.
.
Thanks Lindy. Do you mean fabric manipulation like the linen in the project?
@@artfiberstitch hi, yes, I love the look of distressed fabrics and would really be interested in a ‘tutorial’ of a variety of fabrics being altered/distressed. You are so creative and your videos are such a joy to watch 😊 xx Lindy
Its very lovely and unique!!! Hugs ❤

This is so lovely! And liberating:)
Liberating … I love that 🙏
Ma ha ha I just put together a bag of yarn that was on its way to a new home! It’s hard not to horde!
Now I’m going to to pull out one of those knobby yarns because this video gave me an idea of a use for it!😂🥰
Welcome to my world …does that make us hoarders?
@@artfiberstitch I think when I have more than I can use my life time I’ve crossed the line into horderville. It’s just hard to decern what I will use and what is less likely. 😂
Hello. Thank you for the video. The examples of your mother's work are beautiful. I guess I prefer stitching less "organic". 😊
Thank you! 😊. She is a real star ⭐️ and still stitching at 92 !
💜💜💜 Your videos are wonderful! I subscribed with a 🔔.
Awesome! Thank you!
Can you please advise what canvas weave to get? There are so many and i get conruu? Thanks 😊
Depends on what you are using it with. I think try a mono needlepoint canvas with a count of say 12 or 14, as that is somewhere in the middle.
