Thank you for you pointing me in a good direction with this install. I have a 98 Ford Expedition EB and the factory subwoofer had no sound, at all. I was unsure if it was the amp or wiring. Purchased a new 8in subwoofer to use with the factory amp located in the rear near the subwoofer. Once the amp connectors were attached to the new subwoofer, I then had sound. Luckily it was not the amp. I don’t usually comment, but i just figured this comment could possibly help someone else if they are searching the internet for an answer on this particular issue with no sound to the subwoofer.
As long as it's a shallow mount sub it should fit. The pioneer sounds awesome. I did have one minor issue. I had replaced the factory head with a pioneer as well so when I first hooked up the sub I did not get any sound from it. There is a feature on the audio function that allows you to turn the sub off. It was off when I hooked it up so I just went to this function and turned it on. Sounds great!! Really nice sub.
Steve Harris i have 2000 ford expedition eddie bauer is there anyway to turn on the sub because everything is stock and the stereo does work but the sub does not is there anyway to fix this
THANK YOU. I wish I had seen this before I took mine out. I took mine out without removing the enclosure. It was an ordeal that I wouldn't recommend anyone else trying that way.
FYI, you don't have to use a shallow sub if you flatten out that bolt hole indentation in the rear. Use a heat gun and then use a 2x4 to flatten it from the inside as the plastic heats up. Then use silicone to seal up the bolt hole which is no longer necessary......
Thank you Steve for the video! This helped me a lot. I really wish the sub didn't have that bolt in the back of it. I fell like that bolt is what makes us have to take apart all the panels. I wonder if it serves an important purpose...
If I don’t hear any sound from the sub does that mean it’s bad? Or could it be the amp still? There’s no thump at all but the rest of the speakers work fine on the higher frequencies.
If they hadn't bolted it in the rear, they would not have been able to use a beefy sub like they did. Sure it's a pain, but I'd rather have the bass than easy removal....
Swapped a salvage tested amp and that wasn’t it. Then pulled sub. It’s blown out. Have the one you installed arriving tomorrow. Do I have to put the bolt in the back of it? Don’t the other ones hold it in well? Or is that for vibration?
Hey Steve. I bought the same subwoofer for my 1999 Expedition.Theres a black and green wire and a black and white wire and wanted to know which one is positive and which one is negative
Hey DR, thanks for subscribing. I believe the black and green is the negative and black and white is the positive. I apologize for taking so long to get back with you.
Thanks for the tutorial. So do you know the speaker wire colors to connect to the radio? When i bought mines the owner hard wired the radio into it and then took his out so idont know the colors for it
i blew my wht i thooought was stock sub, it said jl audio on it and it didnt have the bolt on the back. what does that bolt even do? also, anyone else ran into a no sound from new sub issue? i checked its mach audio fusebox and they all checked out
Hi Steve. What if I don’t hear anything out of the sub? Does that mean it’s bad and not the amp? Also, will the the pioneer sub you mentioned work with the factory head? Imagine it won’t give as much power but still want to go this route.
Hey man i got a question. Will the subwoofer work with the stock head unit? Also is there some tutorial on how i’m supposed to wire the sub to the amp?
I appreciate the video but when I turn the volume up pretty loud the subwoofer cuts out so I assume the original amplifier is the problem anybody else have that issue
How did you remove the grill directly over the subwooofer? I see that at 3:31 it is off. How did you do that? My 2002 Navigator has a similar grill but I am unable to remove it so I can unplug the subwoofer.
On looking at the portion surrounding the subwoofer, in my Navigator, I don't see any screws. I wonder if there are tabs that fit into slots on the side of the cargo compartment. I have tried to pry it open using some flat metal but it's not coming off and I don't want to go into the trouble of removing the whole rear panel. I wish I could attach an image of the part I am talking about. It is the part covering the open space in your video at 3:31.
Those look like bolts holding the subwoofer down. What I mean is how you take out the plastic directly over it so you can see those screws? More directly, how did you expose the hole that your left hand is going through at 4:00? Thanks for your help.
I got what your saying now. There is a panel cover with a screen on it. All it is, is plastic tabs holding that in. You may need to use a flat tool and be very careful pulling that off.

The sub has been a great purchase!! Our system sounds great!! It is worth the money. Thank you so much for replacing it for me. 😁

Steve Harris at what ohm should the sub be wire at, thanks
Miguel Blanco anywhere between a 1 and 4 ohm depending on what sub you get. Mine is hooked up as a 2 ohm and it sounds fine.

Have u done it? Does it work? I've been running my sub inverted for a long while now cause it doesn't fit, I tried using spacers but it leaks
Thank you Steve for the video! This helped me a lot. I really wish the sub didn't have that bolt in the back of it. I fell like that bolt is what makes us have to take apart all the panels. I wonder if it serves an important purpose...
J D just so it won’t move a lot from the vibrations and to stop bad people from steeling it.
Thanks for the explanation, it helped me alot!
No problem Angel, glad it could help.
The sound is so much better now. We need to replace the speakers on the doors and we will be good to go. ✌🏽
That stock sub looks like a memphis audio sub because of the basket design
If I don’t hear any sound from the sub does that mean it’s bad? Or could it be the amp still? There’s no thump at all but the rest of the speakers work fine on the higher frequencies.
Macy, if it’s a new sub it shouldn’t be bad. May be the amp or like I said make sure your connections are right.
So if it wasn't for that 10mm on the back you could easily do this without removing all those panels and seat belts? Thanks, Ford...
Lol, yes.
If they hadn't bolted it in the rear, they would not have been able to use a beefy sub like they did. Sure it's a pain, but I'd rather have the bass than easy removal....
I wonder if you could spin the subwoofer, while pulling on it hard, to keep a bolt from turning and remove it and that manner?
Swapped a salvage tested amp and that wasn’t it. Then pulled sub. It’s blown out. Have the one you installed arriving tomorrow. Do I have to put the bolt in the back of it? Don’t the other ones hold it in well? Or is that for vibration?
Macy, no you don’t need the bolt for the new one.
This should be the same as my 05 Mercury Mountaineer
Maybe
Why did they put that stupid Bolt in the back to make it harder to remove when they could have just put a mesh removal in the front smh man
I agree!
Thanks for the tutorial. So do you know the speaker wire colors to connect to the radio? When i bought mines the owner hard wired the radio into it and then took his out so idont know the colors for it
I don't remember the colors of the wires.
Steve Harris, how would I know if the amp is bad? Will the speaker still play without the amp?
Lawrence Carter yes but you won't get much thump out of it since the amp is not working.
Do you know why I'm only getting sound from my 2 front speakers? No sound from rear speakers
Make sure you stereo settings are correct on your "fade" function and make sure your rear speakers have a good connection.
I have a 2007 Ford Expedition what size can I put it in there cuz I'm having a problem with it I bought a 8in won't fit too small
I'm not sure about an '07. Maybe google it and see what comes up.
Is there a way to replace the amp also without replacing the Factory head unit
Cody, X Young are you putting an after market amp in or sticking with the replacement factory amp?
I have the same suv, do you think a Skar Audio VD-8 will fit & how does it sound with that pioneer 8 subwoofer
Hey my new sub doesn't have threads in the back for the 10mm like the factory sub? What do I do? Just leave hold open in sub box or?
Yes just leave it open, that's no problem. You can put the new sub in without having the hole in the back of it.
@@stevesauto1788 i just used a bolt and nut with washers to block off the hole in the sub box. That ok?
Thanks for the reply
i blew my wht i thooought was stock sub, it said jl audio on it and it didnt have the bolt on the back. what does that bolt even do? also, anyone else ran into a no sound from new sub issue? i checked its mach audio fusebox and they all checked out
Jl Audio is good shit
Hi Steve. What if I don’t hear anything out of the sub? Does that mean it’s bad and not the amp? Also, will the the pioneer sub you mentioned work with the factory head? Imagine it won’t give as much power but still want to go this route.
Macy, yes the after market sub will work with factory head, check your connections and make sure everything is hooked up right.
why not terminate the wires with spade connections and make em quick disconnect?
is there a fuse on the factory amp?
Yes, I Believe there is.
Hi Steve. Had you install the subwoofer in the factory amplifier? also this models is a 2 coils of 2 ohms, so are you in 1 ohm or 2ohm?
Turnip, yes.
He has it in parallel at 1 ohm
Does the factory system have a amp? I'm removing the entire system for my ranger
Yes
Thank you i was wondering why is that piece of s**t doesn’t come out
Bad boy 10mm
Why ford?
😁
What size is the sub? I have a 10 inch Orion XTR Pro I wanna replace mine with. It's 99 Eddie Bauer Explorer.
I believe it's a 12" sub.
8" or 200mm
Hey man i got a question. Will the subwoofer work with the stock head unit? Also is there some tutorial on how i’m supposed to wire the sub to the amp?
Yes it will. The sub to the amp should be plug and play.
wait, so the new sub is a direct connection to the amp?
no splicing or anything needed?
I apologize, you do have to splice it. I forgot to include that in the video.
no worries. is there any tutorial i can follow for
this specifically? it’s my first time attempting this
Is the stock subwoofer weak?
I appreciate the video but when I turn the volume up pretty loud the subwoofer cuts out so I assume the original amplifier is the problem anybody else have that issue
I would say so
Would recommend adding an amp that has the same power rating as the sub installed
Good luck getting it to fit. Unless it's one of those new mini amps that aren't really as much as they say.
Probably the wrong ohm load for the factory amp. Needs to be the same as the factory sub.
But what amp will fit in small space with 600 watt max 200 watt rms
How did you remove the grill directly over the subwooofer? I see that at 3:31 it is off. How did you do that? My 2002 Navigator has a similar grill but I am unable to remove it so I can unplug the subwoofer.
There should be about 6 to 8, 5 or 6mm screws around it and then it may be siliconed on.
Look at the 4:45 mark and you will see the screws.
Those look like bolts holding the subwoofer down. What I mean is how you take out the plastic directly over it so you can see those screws? More directly, how did you expose the hole that your left hand is going through at 4:00? Thanks for your help.

My 97 was blown
I dont have on mine can i install it ? Factory amp and sub ?
Yes, but you will have to run the wiring for it.
