  • The NSW Government is currently reviewing the NSW Koala Strategy, and are seeking input on a discussion paper to shape the updated strategy. Koalas in NSW are in a perilous position, on a road to extinction by 2050 if nothing changes. They face threats from disease, car strike, dog attack, and habitat loss at a large scale.
Stopping habitat loss is the quickest and most effective way of protecting koala populations.
Haer from presenters are Dailan Pugh from North East Forest Alliance and Bev Smiles from Mudgee District Environment Group about how you can have your say.
They talk about some of the key drivers of habitat loss- logging and mining, and how your submission can call for an end to them.

As someone passionate about global climate change AND local conservation, I'm feeling the tension between needing more minerals for the clean energy transition and local ecosystem health. Mining is destructive - pure and simple. We can try to replant and restore after the mine has closed in 30 or 40 years - but there has to be an adequate Koala habitat to move all the existing Koala's to BEFORE a new mine opens. Is there any such place that isn't already overpopulated? Also - NEW COAL MINES!? In this day and age? What on earth!!??
