@@nicholasgarofalo8825the thing is, the fruit isn’t necessarily Joyboy’s will itself. It was Joyboy’s fruit in the sense that he used it, but it’s the Nikki fruit. The reason why it’s so associated with Joyboy is that he was one of the most famous users. In fact, Joyboy itself clearly wasn’t even his real name. It was a call sign, just like how “strawhat” is Luffy’s call sign. So even if the fruit had taken over, it wouldn’t have made sense for him to call himself Joyboy. The reason that the elephant whose name I forgot calls him Joyboy is because the place he had heard the drums of liberation from WAS joy boy. But that’s because Joyboy was the last one to awaken the fruit. The true fruit is Nikka, which- I think in a way, it does sort of take him over personally? But the thing is- nikka was a liberator and meant to resemble freedom. So Luffy, who had already embodied those aspects, wouldn’t really change too much because their personalities were already sort of aligned. It’s why all it really does to luffy is make him be essentially in a good mood. He already aligns with the aspects of nikka, so his fruit just amplifies it.
