- This documentary recounts the history of the Talyllyn Railway, a narrow-gauge slate carrier situated in Tywyn, Wales. It details the efforts of a preservation society that prevented the railway from being sold for scrap. Although officially released in 1965, the footage was captured during the early 1950s.
Established in 1865, the Talyllyn Railway holds the distinction of being the inaugural narrow-gauge steam railway specifically designed for industrial steam hauling. Since its rescue in the late 1940s, numerous individuals have actively contributed to its maintenance, and the railway is open for visitors to enjoy rides. The Society's dedication to the railway is remarkable, with volunteers categorized into three groups: adults, adolescents, and children. The social interactions among society members have resulted in numerous marriages and children. The Talyllyn experience is characterized by a profound commitment to preservation.
This footage is public domain.

Isn’t it amazing how things have changed, I long for a simpler time and way of life.
I hear you. Although I love technology, it has changed our lives in both positive and negative ways.
@@TwoRailfans I have a hard time trying to find anything positive about what technology has done for society, just look around as almost everyone has a smart phone glued to there faces 24/7 in stead of speaking to one another.
Very true, but years ago I would be talking to myself about model trains and not all of you guys. 😂 It helps to put the phone down and leave it alone though and stay away from screens as much as possible.
This mini documentary partially helped save the railway, the Talyllyn itself still exists today, and the old lady(called Dolgoch)still runs like new
Love these old shorts
