This year is the first time I've seen them or the light colored caterpillars. I appreciate the information because I've been asking and everyone told me they hadn't noticed until I pointed out the webs.

I haven’t seen these in almost 40 years. They were everywhere when i was a kid. They loved to infest the blackberry trees

I remember webs like this, blanketing trees. Pennsylvania. They do harm trees. It is an infestation- DO NOT USE PESTICIDES.
The men in the neighborhood got ladders and with torches, burned the webs out.
Left unchecked, they strip trees in a short time.

🙄 why is this a story? It's a normal texas activity. Also, caterpillar like critter? Really? It's a caterpillar. As kids, we used to let them crawl on our hands and arms because it tickled. What's next? Asking what a bee is?

A lot of people don’t know what they are. Not everyone is an outdoor person or may have never seen them before. Kids these days also don’t get out as much. A lot of people also have been told the very common myth that all fuzzy caterpillars are poisonous. I was always told the Black fuzzy caterpillars were asps and poisonous but only now in my 38th year did I find out they are harmless woolybears.
