Huey P. Long was a US Senator from Louisiana when he was assassinated in the state capitol in Baton Rouge, but no one can say he wasn't a governor. For a time, he was Governor AND Senator.
    Thanks for your channel!
PS...Kentuckian and former Vice-President John Cabell Breckenridge is one of the most interesting of civil war characters. From Chickamauga to Port Hudson, he was all over the map.

I actually grew up in Sacramento and attended the reenactment every year. Always a good time. Sacramento is still very behind the times so growing up the reenactment always had a true 1860s feel.

like your podcast. I have ties to Kentucky through my Poteet and Crabtree ancestors. My wife's 3x grandfather fought in the Cornstalk Militia with Simon Kenton. I am a history nut so I think Forrest was a pretty interesting and misunderstood character that has not been accurately portrayed by the history books. The battle of Shiloh would have been changed if the "West Pinters" had listened to Forrest. His scouts found Grant still on the river and he wanted to attack as they unloaded the boats. By the time he got the go ahead it was too late. Custer stole a race horse after the surrender named Don Juan that was a half brother to Grant's horse Cincinnati, but with a better race record. If you call him a horse thief you make a lot of people mad. History is what it is good or bad.

The only thing Custer did that applaudable was after the War ended.
After he and his wife were stationed in Texas, she became very ill and nearly died.
The people in the closest town of Hempstead helped nurse her back to good health. Before he and wife Libby transferred to Kansas to make war on the Native tribes, Sheridan ordered Custer to burn down the Plantation House where they lived while outside of Hempstead.
Custer refused the order on grounds of the help of aforementioned townsfolk.
The Big House still stands to this day.

Grant saved a three story house south of Gettysburg. He used the top floor for a lookout. After the war the widow hired carpenters to finish the top floor and they burned it down with smoking habit. The founder of Pizza Hut built a replica in Karnes Texas. It is quite the house. @@carywest9256

What about a video about a KY congressman, senator, Vice-President of the U.S., second in electoral votes in the Presidential election of 1860, Confederate General, and Secretary of War for the CSA who was always the grandson of the secretary of state for the third president - John C Breckinridge? A man who gave everything he had for his state, his brothers, and a divided nation.
