Christian, I chose a lick you played in an early example in this vid. Mentally decided approximate tonal value, emulated it from what I heard in my head (don't know if I got it right or not, didn't compare it)- then thought, where could I use that? Well I went from b7 down chromatic (sorta) touched the root, up arp and enclosed 9. I now have a new Dominate lick by using my ear. Still haven't compared it to what you did, because I used my ear to create instead of transcribing
@@JazzGuitarScrapbook I'm getting Very used to Absorbing (that's what I call it) licks and ideas, concepts, rhythmic phrasing ect... by ear, much faster than transcribing and much more creative! The best part is I don't care if I got it right or not, if I like it, I'll use it!
Jazz Guitar Scrapbook I also just hum melodies in my head at night before I go to sleep is that helping to make musically connections? Because when I go to play them I cannot remember all of them
Hello, I've got a question for you. Is the Barry Harris phrase system part of his workshop DVDs? I've been considering buying them for a long time but since they're so expensive I'd like to know if they're worth it.
I’m trying to learn how to do this, but everyone basically says “practice audiation by audiating”. Ughhhh… what can I do when I hear nothing in my mind? 🥺
@@JazzGuitarScrapbookI’ve been doing that my whole life (I’m 50 years old, so it’s been a long time…) I always get told “you’re doing it wrong” or “that’s not how it goes” or “what are YOU singing?” How am I supposed to get it right?
@@anxylum very hard to say based on a UA-cam comment! I think if you can sing something and hear it in your head well enough to know when you get it wrong, that’s a start haha
@@JazzGuitarScrapbookbut I don’t hear anything in my head. But everyone keeps saying it’s a skill that can be developed. But how can I develop it when I can’t even do it in the first place? 🤔
I completely disagree with everything you said in this video, you are misleading the musicians of our future, you should be encouraging them, not undermining them, I just don't get your angle, at a guess I would say you're a con man.
@@JazzGuitarScrapbook this has to be the end all be all of trolling comments… Misleading the musicians of the future? What are they on about anyway. Being able to transfer the ideas you hear in your head to your instrument of choice is the epitomy of being considered a serious musician. But, anyways nice lesson sir. I enjoyed it…
amazing videos, and not taught enough, especially in conservatoires!

HpPmL yes, get dvd 1, there’s enough stuff in there for a while.

not consciously a con. What do you specifically disagree with?
or at least it might be cool to go into more detail; always eager to learn
