    I just bought an Amazon Fire HD Kids Tablet for my Grandson for Christmas and your video on Parental Controls was really, really helpful!!! Also, I watch a lot of "How To & Tech UA-cam Videos" and in comparison to others, the quality, content, and explanations/demo of this video was one of the better/best I've watched!!!! Thanks.

      Yeah I understand… even though I spend a lot of time tinkering around with this device, I still find that I have to remain attentive to it when they are using it because the Parental Controls are not as “all-encompassing” as I would like them to be.

      I don’t have experience with any reading function that works across multiple apps on this tablet but they do have an AudioBooks app that has children’s stories available. It’s a free app in the store but you will have to approve the download, and of course the number of stories are limited. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the video! I have a question about Amazon Kids+. So I canceled the subscription for my son after the one year for free was up because I felt like there was so many new games and apps and books all of the time and we had to keep on going in and deleting them. Is there a way to require parent permission for him to download any new games in the Amazon Kids+ content? It’s a pain to go in and manually add things and share them with him so I want to get the subscription again, but want there to be limitations so he doesn’t go crazy and download every game. He sees. Thanks in advance and great video!

    • @DetroneDoesIt
      @DetroneDoesIt  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for watching… and that is a good question. The two setting that they have to help limit downloading are listed below… You can toggle both of these setting on/off (separately)
      1. Store Access (this seems like the closest option)
      Allow access to a selection of free and paid content, including apps, books, and games, intended for kids. You'll get notified and need to approve when your child makes a download request. This applies to Tablet and Kindle.
      2. In-App Purchasing
      In-App Purchasing only applies to Fire tablets. Every in-app purchase, except free items, requires your Amazon password.

    • @DetroneDoesIt
      @DetroneDoesIt  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching! There does appear to be mutiple apps you can download that allow you to do messaging. Although I don’t have personal experience with it, reviews for the “Messenger Kids - The Messaging App for Kids” sound like it might fulfill some of your needs. You have to approve the friends she can message with, it’s done over WiFi so she won’t need a phone number and the app has emojis and interactive feature that make it engaging for kids.
      Might be one to try out…

    • @DetroneDoesIt
      @DetroneDoesIt  Рік тому +2

      Brad, no it sounds like you got everything… to limit downloading… the only other failsafe would be to turn off the wifi on the device to disable additional downloading. Store Access should be the way it works, that way it required you to approve the download… but if that isn’t working there aren’t too many other options.

      On the main page of the Parent dashboard, if you click the “View All Activity” button, it will give you a view of their last 7 Days and a breakdown of how much time they spend in each category (Apps, Web, Books, Music ect) the. If you click into a category it will give you a break down of how much time they spent on each app per day. Like this 👇🏽
      July 17th, 2023
      Dr. Panda Mailman: 6m
      Car Games: Neon Rider Drives Sport Cars: 5m
      Dr. Panda's Airport: 5m
      Starfall ABCs: 3m
      … and unfortunately if you child has found ways around the UA-cam parental limits… the last resort would be to disable web access… but that will limit some other functions available to the device.
      Thanks for checking out the video and I hope this helped!

    Is there a way to lock the screen on a certain app? To where it disables touch completely, like for example an ipad could ?

    • @DetroneDoesIt
      @DetroneDoesIt  Рік тому +1

      I have not found a way to screen lock particular apps on this tablet. I could definitely see how that could be helpful. You can only lock it on particular profiles, so if you have separate profiles on the tablet for you/your child (or an older and younger child that share a device) there is a way to enable a parental control lock 👇🏽
      To restrict access on another profile:
      - Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to show Quick Settings.
      - Tap the Settings icon.
      - Tap Parental Controls.
      - Toggle the switch to On.
      - Enter and confirm your password. Make sure that you record your password.
      Note: Your parental controls password is different from your lock screen password.
      Tap Finish.
      A lock icon appears at the top of the screen when parental controls are enabled.

    Is there a way to have like more than one account on a device also, so that an adult can see apps for higher than kid age, but that later a kid could login to ... something else that will only let them see kid apps and not see the adult age stuff? For when a child wants to use the parents device or when more than 1 person uses the same device.)
    Thanks.

    • @DetroneDoesIt
      @DetroneDoesIt  Рік тому +1

      Yes, you can create different profiles on the device and set different age restrictions for that same device.
      If you are on the main page there is a icon with two different people in the upper right hand corner.
      If you click that, it will reveal “Switch Profile”, “Time Limits”, “Manage Content” and “Settings” . You should be able to get into this section and create that additional profile.

    • @DetroneDoesIt

      I believe the parental control will only link up to the account you have the device/devices registered under. Which means I do not believe you can control the the parental controls from separate accounts.
      This is only based on the research I’ve been able to come across on the net, since me and my wife share an Amazon account I don’t have first hand experience with using separate accounts.

  • @noahriding5780
    @noahriding5780 Рік тому +1

    Hey Detrone, I got a new question for you.
    Is there a way to purge your buying data after buying some apps? To explain... when you go to buy something it forces you to save your bank card data or you can't buy anything. And that basically means vulnerability, exposure. I'd like to know how to purge the bank data on the tablet after getting only the apps I need, but not lose other apps and not have to delete everything on the tablet. And it'd be helpful to know how to do this in addition to being able to turn on or off app store buying.
    I'm also uncomfortable with the idea that the appstores didn't have a one time only bank card info setting to just buy once and then lose your bank information. It shouldn't NEED to want to store all your bank information.
    Wondered what you or others think on this.

    • @DetroneDoesIt
      @DetroneDoesIt  Рік тому +1

      Noah, I definitely understand that concern, and because it’s Amazon my assumption is they are trying to make it more convenient (but of course also trying to encourage more spending) which is why they want to save that info. Unfortunately the group might have to help with this one, because I’ve never actually purchased any of the apps for my kiddos. All the apps that we use are free (but unfortunately come with ad’s now that we have to navigate)… I wish you luck with some kind of workaround for the credit card situation

      One workaround that you can do is: Log into the Adult profile that you have set up -> open the internet browser -> go to UA-cam -> sign in then download them there.
      They won’t have access to it on the kid profile but they will have access on the adult profile. The can watch the downloaded videos on the adult profile and since it’s offline, they won’t be able to access the stuff typically restricted by the kid profile.

    • @DetroneDoesIt

      The best way to know would be to download the apps, then turn your wifi off at home and test them. That should give you a good idea of which apps have “offline” capabilities. That could take a while if you want to check ever app (depending on how many they have downloaded) but it’s probably the best way to test.

      Is she accessing the UA-cam videos through the default “Videos” icon on the home page, “Web Videos” or through a UA-cam app that you download on to the device?
      If you are using web videos, then you can’t exactly clear the view history but if you go to “setting> manage content> web content, you’ll have to punch in your passcode, then there will be three options “websites” “web videos” and “settings”.
      If you click “web videos” there will be a “+” symbol in the upper right hand corner. When you do that you can log into a UA-cam Kids account and identify videos that you want to load into your video library. By doing that it will influence what is generated when as search options when she goes back to web video.
      If you are doing it through a separate app, the. I don’t have the anwser for you unfortunately. I hope this help a bit.
