If only I could afford a 991A! As it happens though, I DO like my 897D, the forerunner of the 991. I fear that modern radios from Yaesu, Icom & Kenwood now have so MANY things that can go wrong that I could never repair myself, that they are not a viable option if longevity is required. My FT-897D (circa 2003) is built like a tank, and has a small display but great performance. It is almost military hardened and shall do fine in an emergency situation involving EMP.
Update done - August 2024. Full factory reset so save settings. And apart from the documented changes have found you can now TX when in Wires X Menu, when you are on a repeater and press REV the frequencies now switch to show the change and if you knock the vfo when on a repeater the input frequency is now removed and makes it clear you have gone to vfo mode. So far so good,
I went to change the firmware and it was no longer there, although I had previously downloaded it but I don't dare to install it in case there is some hidden problem that they haven't mentioned. They should have at least written a note for the people who downloaded it from the website, explaining why.
The A/B still behaves the same way. The text on screen will still say VFO A but it’s in fact switching between A and B each time you press it. To confirm this yourself set the radio on a HF band, press A/B button and you will see the VFO information change.
@@Alex-2E0KUD Mine does that in the last firmware V02-04 the only thing is it does not say which vfo you on. I did the new update V02-06 and hit A/B and it would not do anything for me so I went back to V02-04

@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones I called Yaesu and spoke with Roger there. He said that in the far upper left corner there will NEVER be VFO-B displayed. Where the VFO-B LED's are above the VFO knob, ONLY the red light will be shown when the SPLIT button is pushed. When in Split mode, then a 2nd freq will be displayed as VFO-B above the waterfall and then pressing the A/B button will alternate between the VFO-A and VFO-B frequencies so no bug as one would think.

I understand but the 991a lasts for ever it's worth the extra cost even tyeb897bis very hard to repair.
I understand from the forums that they've pulled this update.
Yes but will be back soon they discovered a small bug .
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones HamTech , They've released Firmware Ver. 02-07 today

My guess is they found a bug and will release it again .
It looks like they removed the new software at the Yaesu site, maybe there is a bug??
Yes interesting
Thanks for the alert.
No prob
SSB receive sounds cleaner and brighter. Even with DNR switched off. Maybe it’s a placebo effect lol
Lol yes maybe I will try it out .73
This update is not on the USA yaesu site so it must be the EU version only or they took it offline.
They took it off
So if we just have a Mac are we SOL?
Use parallels
This firmware allows us to switch the european to a american settings?
It would be nice to able to transmitt in PMR whiteout going to service mod...
No sorry
How it is possible that I can't see these links with FW, on my web browser...?
Because they removed it.
Oh wonder why

Has the 991A firmware been removed? cant see it anay longer?
I would wait for Yaesu to release it again
Is it possible to save the settings before introducing new software?
Yes there is SOFTWARE

I did the firmware update and A/B does nothing.

If you follow the last step of holding F M-List afterwards, yes. I skipped that step on mine. Firmware upgrade otherwise seemed to work fine.
Yes as at the end you factory reset .

Yes
