I invented this robot as a cheap and simple DIY alternative to expensive robotic toys and to inspire a maker mindset within kids. The goal was to use only simple electronics, conductive tape, cardboard, and a smartphone as the robot's brain. There are no tools required! The robot can be programmed with MIT App Inventor or any other programming language.
This DIY project is not only fun for kids :-)

The idea with using photo resistor to give command's to the engine's is amazing, exactly how you told this platform have so many things that can be implemented, I build robot's in my free time and I try to pass my knowledge to makers community

sir please can u tell me how you build the light sensor with the transistor and battery step by step make a video for me
This is such a great idea! I love that the robot can even be controlled just by running a video. But obviously using the app maker would be even better. Especially for older kids. Did you think about powering the robot from the USB port? I guess the risk is that the kids might short out the phone battery. Some sort of fused adaptor might be a solution. This could probably be designed to be 3d printed. What do you think? I am thinking about finding fun educational uses for retired mobile phones and this project certainly fits the bill! Thanks for sharing your ideas 👏👏👏
yeah this is perfect for retired mobile phones! do you work as a teacher? powering the robot from the smartphone battery might work but I am not sure if the power output of a smartphones usb port is enough. As you mentioned I did not try it because in case of a short circuit you damage the smartphone. However, it would be cool, when used with a fused adaptor!

It's there any way that this can be set up to use a phones sensors for Autonomous driving and obstacle avoidance? Great video
sorry for my late reply! obstacle avoidance is not so easy with this setup. Smartphones do have a sensore to detect when you are holding you phone to the ear but it is only very short range.

Sure! Right now I have work to finish, but as soon as I find time I will create and upload Coding Videos for Fritz. You can join my Patreon if you want to download the MIT App Inventor files I used in the video. That would be a good start for now.
How did you do that iot remote
it uses the tinyWebDB component to write/read variables. There are two "screens" in the app, one for the robot and one for the remote. the remote writes the variables and the robot reads them. that's it in a nutshell :-)

hi! sorry for my late reply!!! it is hard to tell. It can work I guess but no guarantee. you can start with the sample circuit and see how the circuit behaves. remember, it is important to have geared solar motors for this!

no because it does not make any difference. just follow the steps to build the basic robot from this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/IAb0I2N7zag/v-deo.html then proceed with the smartphone robot tutorial. A new tutorial would be the same as doing it this way.

I did everything. Even 3d printed a body to put the smartphone into. The problem is that the only thing that shows when I open mit app inventor is a field wanting a 6 character code or to scan a QR code. How am I supposed to get to the visual coding portion?
Great to hear you built your own robot! The coding happens at appinventor.mit.edu/. You programm your "app" there and connect your smartphone by scanning a qr code or by entering the 6 character code. For testing the robot you can also use my test video (instead of programming). Just show the video on the screen. @@TheMirthrindir Thanks for the interest. I have to be honest and say it kind of got put aside for a bit. I'll get back on it and see if I can post some pictures now that I see that someone else is interested in it! So far I've printed "version 1" of the body. There are a couple things I will be adjusting for the final. I have the basic programming done for the robot as done by @volt, paper, scissors! and also some of the custom screen programming (which displays a UA-cam or web page on the top half of the screen). I will definitely work on it!

Hey! I use the MIt App Inventor component TinyWebDB to exchange variables between phones. I make one app with 2 screens. One screen for remote controll one screen for the robot.
How did you do that iot remote

Its an android phone. MIT App Inventor uses the built in features for speech recognition. So on iOS its probably different

I'll do my best, but I am also full of new ideas and time is very limited. Anyway making the robot talk in MIT App Inventor is quite simple. Use the text-to-speech component and code blocks to define what the robot should say and when.

Yes. But I like paper/cardboard more! Lego is great if you have lots of parts available, but that's not the case for everyone.
