  • A short video showing what I have been able to find dumpster diving/skip diving/skip tripping (my preferred term for the activity). I go through a one day find and then show you everything else I have accumulated (excluding all of the items I have already sold of course).

To be honest I spent a few years just narrowing down locations and just revisit a few favourites which have shown themselves to be fruitful. However, like I said at the end of the video the best locations seem to be locations where research and development take place.
I guess just generally think about what people or companies may be working on. For example a company developing a robot or a research facility is more likely to be throwing out development electronics. Office spaces with a lot of company turnover may have a greater tendency to throw out office equipment. A site that does machining and such will likely chuck out scraps that are useless to them but might be good for hobby projects. Libraries and old fashioned storage and university buildings have been quite good for large pieces of, sometimes exotic, wood from their shelving and work surfaces.
Hope that helps, and thanks for watching.

Cor that computer's better than the one I've got at home (from Freecycle) moral: don't bother with Freecycle, just get something out of the bin. ;)
