- A playthrough of Sony Imagesoft's 1994 action-platformer for the Super Nintendo, Skyblazer.
Skyblazer is a spiritual successor of sorts to Sony Imagesoft's excellent 1992 game Hook. In terms of plot, it is entirely unrelated. However, being built on the same foundation, anyone that has played Hook will immediately recognize the distinctive animation style and feel of the controls. Both were, after all, developed by Ukiyotei.
That's not to say that Skyblazer is a mere clone of Hook, though. The game pulls much of its philosophical musings and main figures from its Hindu influence, and the music is filled with all sorts of traditional, Eastern instruments that lend the experience a somewhat exotic, orchestral flair. It then combines this with ideas we saw in Actraiser 2 - not only are you the son of [God], but you also will cull your powers from the enemies you've defeated.
There isn't too much about Skyblazer that you would call original outside of its cultural leanings - most of the gameplay mechanics have appeared in other games (Mega Man X, ActRaiser, Castelian/Battletoads, etc.) many times before - but rarely do they come together as well as they have in Skyblazer. The controls are fluid, varied, and intuitive, the occasional puzzles are woven well into the stage designs, and the occasional flying stage does wonders for breaking up the platforming sections. The only complaint I can muster is that the game is far too easy, but that never got in my way of totally enjoying it.
The graphics and sound are also excellent. The player character and the minor enemies, though on the small side, all animate well, and some of those bosses put on some impressive shows of SNES wizardry - some will expand and fill the screen as they take damage (remember the giant face from The Legend of the Mystical Ninja?) while others will smash you by flipping the stage around you (just like the one in Hook). Most of them are quite memorable, and for me, ended up becoming the high point of the game.
Skyblazer is a game well worth playing. The production values are excellent, the gameplay is clean, and most importantly, it's a lot of fun. If you liked Hook, this obscure gem is an easy choice.

My favourite game, alltime. I was so proud when i finished this game as a kid. I felt like i accomplished something. Today as a man, i know, i did.
If you loved Hook and wanted more, this "spiritual succesor" is a fantastic upgrade. It's fairly obscure but it's well worth the effort it takes to track down a copy.
Its also the first project where David Jaffe was involved before Twisted Metal and God of War (as a tester) so that's a cool tidbit of history there :)
It's price for US or Japanese version means your wallet will cry out in pain when you go to buy it. This game used to be so extraordinarily cheap, now it goes for a small fortune.
Yes.
The first time I played this I instantly thought of hook (which is also a great game).
But skyblazer is even better
A game from my childhood! Love the soundtrack.
As a kid I found this in a bargain bin. Had no idea how great of a game it would be. Great gameplay and fantastic music.
Wow. Now it's over 100 on Ebay. 😮💨
Lucky
this could easily be released on the Playstation Store today as a new indi game and no one would bat an eye. the sound design is amazing too. so effin good!
Those mystic patterns have triangles, circles, and X's in squares. 🔼⏺❎⏹
Must be an early reference to the PlayStation, which debuted in Japan after the release of this game.
This game is a HIGHLY underrated gem. It's even one of the best 16bit 2D adventure platformers imo.
Really underrated game
Rented this once, almost beat it before I had to return it, and then it was like it never existed. I didn’t get to rent it again, and I never heard anything else about the game again. Don’t know what made me think of it just now but I had to do some serious searching to find it as I couldn’t remember the name. Glad I persevered; what a hidden gem to have played and nearly forgotten.
Just started playing this on my game Emulator! Its a very well made game!! Love it!
I still have my cartridge, got it right when it came out. I remember being marveled at all the Hindu iconography and music style. As many people here say, very underrated because the game is Fun as FK. A downside would be that the game gives you 1ups like damn cookies hahahaha. I still play it, one of my top favorites. And your playthrough is pro man.
Loved this game as a kid. When he turned into the Phoenix wow
I saw this game only once during my early childhood, and I couldn't remember the name of it! Now I finally know what it is!
This was such an amazing hidden gem. The cover didn't look great but I rented it back in the day and was blown away by the music and graphics.
This game reminds me of a cross between Act Raiser and Ninja Gaiden.
and Hook
This game is so underrated. Nice play through..
Yeah, too much so. Thanks!
ive been trying it.. im hating it bro lol.. fuck that water level

I don't know how I never played this game; seems like a game I would've liked to play on SNES!
This game was fun, it's a shame that it's not on the Super NES Classic Mini, because it should.
Gerald Trinity Word
Game is pretty much Kid Icarus but with Hindu mythology instead of Greek
I never got to play this game, looks really good and my younger self would have enjoyed.i notice the sound effects are very like Ruger arcade game..tunes are great.bring back the old play days🉐

If the controls are good, then this game looks fantastic. Seems underrated.
They're very good. It's criminal how much it gets ignored.
Stunning game, beautiful vibrant colours shows what the Snes can display 😍
omg my childhood
This game looks decent enough. Will give it a go at some point.
My old now is 27 I play this game wan my old 10
Excellent playthrough. Thank you.
I think I picked this up at a flea market my mom brought me to as a youngster. Instantly fell in love.
@39:26 = *Super Saiyan Sky*
Sky blazer needs to be added on Nintendo switch
So apparently this game was developed by the same people who made hook and spawn the video game on snes. I knew the graphic style look familiar.
I could totally see Sky in Smash bros
I agree.
I rented this as a kid, beat it first try, first day. It's beautifully designed, but there's never a moment of tension in this game.
This was back when Sony teamed up with Nintendo... You know how that went years later.
Actually it came out in 1994 which was the same year Nintendo and Sony told each other to go die.
This is Excellent!
Thank you!
remake please sony!!!
Maybe somebody can remake this game in Dreams.
This is like Shadow Blasters meets Mega Man, like it how the 2D Formulas are made for this game.
thumbs up if you think this game should be remade for playstation!!
It looks like you’re playing the “1.1” version where they took out the reference to the girl being sacrificed, and the end boss declaring “I am death!” Do you know if any other changes were made (difficulty, for example)?
I actually didn't know there were multiple versions. I have no idea, sorry.
I love this game
New friend here
Hug u
Imagine of what would happen if Sony decided to make a film movie version of Skyblazer to the very point where it became a smash hit in the box office, what would you do?
It's hard to believe that this is now a Capcom developed game.
Oh I Get It - lock Like Sound Of The up Mushroom From Super Mario Bros.
Do you buy these games or do you use some sort of emulator.
17:10 It's just like the boss from Spawn's game!
Game hay trong những game hay nhất của snes
real Lovely Nostalgia !!. Thanks
great music!
That ending...
I need a part 2 and they do the main character like Metroid and make him lose all his powers in the beginning but everything the same with 2.5D graphics.
I am here because of AVGN 😂
And this video makes that boss look easy, lol
@@larkhainan yeah, hope they will watch this walkthough and notice that lol
Cool game 😎😎
Looks like my destiny lies with 16 bits of ram being 64,000 bytes after all I am so lucky these days unlike my parents

What even is this water temple, it gives Zelda a run for its money
11:16 Beat up the boss!
32:34 KILLA QUEEN!!!
Wait...no. It's less KQ and more like ZA WARUDO! Messed it up! >__
This game seems like Strider to me.
From Columbia tristar
Look at this game having the worst hitboxes of all time lol!
hot hot dog !
Terrible controls, hit detection and annoying level design completely ruin this game
Not sure what game you played? But those commments don't really align with any I've ever come across for this game! I played it and found it absolutely fine, difficult in just a few respects but no issue with the design of controls etc. Its just a learning curve.
hard game
I bought this game on clearance not knowing how much I would love it!!! Classic SNES game with a DOPE sound track
I’ve been looking for this game for almost two decades. Thanks for playing it through. Brought back great memories.
My god who translated the dialogue? XD
Awesome platformer but geez...
It's good game, just kind of lacks of that Epicness.
Kinda easy too - which is ok on it's own manners.
Im stuck 10:26 😭
This game is quite interesting to say the least.
It’s so uncanny seeing Sony on a Nintendo console
I have this game ❤
