    Does this have an activity light?

  • @jason41a

    very very useful for laptops.
    i just plug them in full time, and anything i don't need speed (like gaming, photo editing),
    i just dump them in the ultrafit.
    the small size means it can comfortably stay on full time without risk of inadvertent damage.
    and it saves me my main SSD from getting full and wearing out prematurely.

    I purchased one of these about a month ago. I'm having issues with it though in windows 10, mainly causing black screen or just 'not responding'. Seems to be a problem with these after doing a google search. Also not being recognised or connecting and disconnecting itself.

    I just started using mine because I bought a new laptop and I want to transfer files easily. For whatever reason, the listed space was only 232GB and not the 256GB as advertised.

    • @HistoryandReviews
      @HistoryandReviews  9 місяців тому +1

      Listed memory is how much it actually has, what is available to use is accurate. All storage reserves some of the space for operating system files. There is no lie

    Bit of a poor video... he only transfers one big file on his Mac and another on his PC as the test. As someone who owns two of these, be warned that for copying large files they work fast, but copy lots of smaller files (PDFs, Word docs, photos, songs) and the speed goes insanely slow, literally just KB or 1-3MB a sec, with 0KB hangs between files.

      @dftfire I thought what you just experienced is normal because I've experienced this with all kinds of storage devices including mobile phone. The smaller sized files when they're many always take longer even if they're collectively the same size as a single 1GB file

      @@MZRTMusic254 Yes, I know with small USB SSDs this can be an issue, but some are better than others.
      This one (the SanDisk Ultra Fit) is really bad. But the Samsung Fit Plus is much better, so anyone wanting a small USB drive for general backups I'd point towards that instead.

    Thanks for the detailed review! It's great to see the SanDisk Ultra Fit in action on both older and more modern computers. The small form factor and compatibility with both Windows and Mac make it a versatile choice. However, that drop in write speed on your gaming PC is quite surprising. Did you notice any difference in performance during day-to-day usage, like transferring files or running applications directly from the drive?

    • @HistoryandReviews
      @HistoryandReviews  10 місяців тому

      All drives have started dropping speed on my gaming pc for some reason. Im confused as to why. I can watch 4k 40mbps bitrate videos from it without issue but file transfers start fast and then drop dramatically no matter if I use USB 3.2, 3.1, or 3.0 ports
      I replugged in every usb data and power port to my motherboard, still the issue persists

    I now run my remaining Ultra-fit's on short USB extensions to off-set the heat problem & it kinda cancels out the usefulness of them being ultra small!

    • @HistoryandReviews
      @HistoryandReviews  10 місяців тому +1

      Risk vs reward unfortunately. Anything plugged directly in a pc or laptop takes most of the heat unless the usb port is on the top of a pc near the front

      The rule always has been the higher the capacity the higher the failure rate for all forms of storage. These things get REALLY HOT just being plugged in

    I will only use it for storing RAW photography files and video.

      @@telostia If you're only looking for a small USB drive to save large files onto (such as FLAC music files, or video) then the SanDisk Ultra Fit works fine.
      But if you want to backup smaller files, such as Word or Excel files, go for the Samsung Fit Plus instead. The SanDisk one cannot handle small files and will sit idle for minutes between each one, or writes them at very slow speeds

    It's not slower depending on the device. It's slower depending on how much write caching the device is set for and accounting for it. 50mb/s sustained write speed is not bad.
