Typecasting in HK cinema was so obvious that you knew who was not going to defeat the main stars in any fight, or who was likely dying before the series ends, or who was clearly a bad guy. It also didn’t help that they didn’t seem to give opportunities for main roles out to but a select few, especially ATV, who used their b/c/d-list actors for multiple roles within the same series to where they didn’t even bother to make them look less like their prior roles.
