Storm has always been one with the elements. She could feel every drop of rain, every thunderstorm, gust of wind, all of it. It was one with her and she with it. This was the first time she wasn’t, and the first time she was caught off guard by what used to be part of her.
I love how Magneto telling the judges how they all deserve to exist is also him basically saying the same to himself...that was a really awesome, subtle thing.
'How vast this world is versus how small we make it' Man that hits so deep. The world is so big, and there are so many things in it that we miss because we get wrapped up in trivial things. It's kinda sad, and hard to believe it took a show like this to make me see it lol
This is why we need The X-Men. It's been far too long. I'm just happy that more generations will get to see this and learn where we failed. Before it's too late.
Rogue is wildly underutilized in the movies. Her touch can take powers, skills, and memories.
And yeah, Magneto and Doom are consistently rated as the top marvel villains for a reason.

Magneto and Dr. Doom not only have incredible powers but they both can out debate anybody.
Anna Paquin was going to have a much bigger role in the X-Men movies. But she came forward with Bryan Singer harassing her and other cast members and he cut her out of the movies in retaliation. There's tons of promotional material indicating she was going to have a larger presence, especially in Days of the Future Past. It's why the future Sentinels that could copy mutant powers were inexplicably based on Mystique's DNA.
Storm has always seen the elements as her companion, but without her powers she lost that connection. So I'm thinking when she jumped when she heard thunder it was like a family pet barking or growling at her like she was a stranger 😢

I just remember Storm saying this at one of their weddings: considering what happened the first time, I’m surprised this is going so smoothly. Now (potentially) real Jean is all ..hold my beer. 😂

18:00 my first thought with that scene is that Storm didn't even realize it was raining. On top of losing her powers it probably also feels like she lost one of her senses, like she's just numb all of a sudden.

My favorite X-Men comic, Exiles, has a bunch of alternate reality X-Men. The son of Magneto and Rogue is one of the first team members. Also, Morph's new look originated from that comic.
Actually Morph first looked like that in Age of Apocalypse.

You get it. You get the X-Men so well without even having to know anything about this franchise. It has always been an allegory for prejudice and discrimination, and fear of the other. It is relevant when the title was first created and sadly it’s even more relevant today with all that goes on. I’ve seen a lot of reaction videos to this show. But so far yours are by far my favorite, because you just get it and you aren’t afraid to talk about it, and you aren’t afraid to be aware of yourself and how these things effect others even in instances where they do not effect you. It’s amazing to watch a person feel that joy and that hurt like so many of us feel for our friends and neighbors who have to fight each day just to be considered close to equal to anyone else. I fear it will never change and this franchise will always remain relevant. But if that is the case, I hope that we can all fight together and help those who fear the other to understand that that fear is manufactured, and that we could so easily live together in peace. It would be

May any of us including myself who have a shred of privilege be so self aware and find within us the strength to step up and stand between our friends and those who fear them. To protect those less fortunate than ourselves, and to heed compassion from those more fortunate than us.

Magneto is one of the most underrated characters in comics period (imo). Most just see him as a villain. But he is so much more. Not only is he one of only a few Omega Level mutants, but he is a faithful, loving friend and true champion of his people. Magneto just wants his people to live lives without being hunted or feared. Of course he did go too far in the past, but one thing I’ve noticed, is even though he’s a rival of the xmen, he’s never unnecessarily harmed a mutant. Infact he often asked xmen members to join him. He’d rather offer a mutant a spot beside him rather than harm them. He could have completely destroyed the mansion, ripped Wolverine and the others to pieces, but he doesn’t. He’s such an interesting character.

Im a little late to this reaction, but I have to say, one of the BEST episodes of a cartoon Ive seen, maybe in the last 10 years. Not taking away from the amazing things out there, but wow, the story, the writing, incredible. Completely resonated with me. Same. Everyone talks about episode 5, but that speech from Magneto in the stratosphere is some of the most beautiful dialogue to ever be written. The music, the symbolism of Jean giving birth in the same moment. This was the moment I realized the cast and crew of X-Men 97 truly understood the assignment.

There's a multiverse traveling team called EXiles. One of the members, Magnus is from Earth-27 and is the son of Magneto and Rogue. He's potentially more powerful than his father, but also has a touch that turns anything to metal.
Our childhood came back in the best way possible. Marvel Studios are clearly cooking hard and it's two episodes in right now.

I'm going to call her Jean 1 (the pregnant one), she used powers, back in my comic reading days I don't remember Jean 2 using powers.... Amazing episode it was packed with important events, strong dialogue and great action (some really smart use of powers)

Good reaction, take your bets people regarding the two Jeans: clone, time traveler, shapeshifter, Madelyne Pryor or my personal theory the Jean who gave birth is the Phoenix who disguised itself as Jean and took her memories while the real Jean was trapped in a cocoon like the comic storyline.

I’m guessing the Jean that showed up is real and the one that gave birth is a clone.
It’s been forever since I’ve watched X-Men but I recall Mr. Sinister doing genetic experiments on Scott and Jean to create a perfect mutant, Cable saying he already knew who Scott and Jean are when being briefed about the X-Men before traveling back in time, and Jean once reading Cable’s mind and declaring they were important to him.
I’m pretty sure those plot lines never went anywhere but are now. I’m excited to find out how.
I remember him stealing some of Magneto's DNA as well during that time and putting it in Vertigo. Wonder if she'll have a kid of his now as well.

Excellent reaction! You clearly really got into the new X-Men cartoon, and it's a delight to see such honest enthusiasm for this old Saturday morning cartoon I used to watch with my own kids. I haven't seen these first two episodes of the new show so I'm getting this all for the first time along with you. I've been seeing so much complaining about this series on UA-cam before it premiered, and I'm glad to say I really liked it.
Yes, Magneto can "touch" Rogue - by keeping an electromagnetic force field between them (it's so thin she can't feel it but it keeps him safe from her power.
And yes, Rogue absorbs powers AND memories at the same time (and both are usually temporary).

Comic book they are together but in an alternate timeline, magneto in Rogue, and because of Magneto's Powers he's able touch her, because he put a small magnetic field around himself, so the Genesis don't get creeped out rogue is actually old, girl gets not know so if you are X-Men lover just get a chance and research the comic they are together in the comic books was still an alternate timeline.

i agree with you that speak was EVERYTHING i would be team magneto back then too myself. haha great reactions i do love the love triangle with rouge, magneto, and gambit. it’s newer for me than cyclops, logan, and jean which is pretty common. then morph grew on me more too and a skill supporter and personality. this is going to be a great season.

I don't like Magneto as a love interest for Rogue but I'm a believer this is to give Rogue and Gambit a good story line and conflict which they'll overcome. Cause in the first episode I loved them being together but their dynamic and relationship is one of the most popular things from the OG series and if they're already together and doing fine there might not have been anywhere else to take them in the new show. This way it'll put them to test, but I trust they'll come up better out of it.

I will make a second comment, and forgive me for my cynicism (it's there with good reason). But people will watch this incredibly amazing show, and in the story, sympathize with the oppressed mutants, but in real life, side with the oppressors. This story should serve as a lesson, I believe it was written that way for a reason
it is .. X-Men is a depiction of Human Rights Movement ... Charles Xavier is Martin Luther King ... while Magneto is Malcolm X ... Stan Lee supported Martin during that time ... he created the X-Men for that purpose
The X-Men mansion was always a safe haven for mutants. There have been a few storylines where a depowered mutant goes "i dont belong here anymore" (lately it was more so Krakoa than the mansion, but the same concept applies) and usually most mutants dont disagree with them. Theres a bit of an "us vs them" mentality when it comes to mutants and humans and that doesnt just apply to humanity. Of course, I dont think they would go that dark in a kids cartoon. But, well, lets just say that in some continuities some X-Men would vote to kick her out.
Speaking of which, love the decision to depower one of the most powerful and trusted mutants of the team. Storm can live her life as a human and showcase the perspective of regular humans when it comes to mutants. The villains in the first 2 episodes made, if nothing else, one good point: Its scary to listen to a group of people go "we are different, we are better, we are the next step of the evolution". It would be neat to tackle that point without a villain saying that whos aiming to kill everyone for being born different.
STORM is too OP that they have to nerf her again in the series

Magneto has the poise and presence of an elderly gay man that does crossfit before breakfast and tends to his garden at his Florida estate. But remembers Stonewall and will kick your teeth in if need be.
It seems likely that the other Jean that knocked on their door is someone who has no knowlegde of the X-Men and only came to their doorstep because she was told that they could help her, hence why she said what she said. I've seen leaked images of some toys but I won't spoil anything about which comic book arcs they're adapting for this season, so I'll just stop here.
I get that everyone has a style, but I don’t understand why some people pause in the middle of watching stuff rather than experiencing the entire thing first
If she wants to say something it is better to pause so you don't miss what happens while you were talking.
I'd say about 90% of this episode is from the comics. Not to worry, I think Storm is going to have her own story arc and come back more badass then ever. No spoilers 😉🤐 Watch episode 1 and 2 (2 parter) of X-Men Animated Series SECOND season "Till Death Do Us Part." Might help you understand better what's happened.

Magneto and Rogue is a deep cut from comics history, I can imagine a lot of people won't get the references and why this story beat was bought back. Rogue originally started as a brotherhood member before joining the X-Men, forget if they ever referenced this in the original 90's cartoon been years since I actually watched it through.
