Fighting For Workers

  • Biden is successfully reconnecting Democrats with the working class after years of missteps by Clinton and Obama. Too many workers drifted towards Republican faux populism as Clinton sacrificed manufacturing job to NAFTA and Obama insisted the answer was a college education and more foreign trade deals. But Biden finally gets it-- the job of the president is to create jobs for everyone here at home-- with or without a diploma.

    no disrespect but this analysis is incorrect. The working middle class (white male union members) were shamelessly appealed to with overt racist and xenophobic tropes by Reagan/Bush, then convinced to tear down their own unions because too many blacks were getting in/speaking out (unlike the good old days). Just like Healthcare, white folks willing to put up with horrors of a s***ly-run super-expensive system, as long as it means black/brown folks have it even worse and can't move up past them on the economic ladder. The "Reagan Democrats" were lost long before Clinton took office and NAFTA was signed, negotiated by their own hero, to undercut them. It is used as an excuse why they hate Clinton, blah, blah, blah - even though the vast majority of those folks were never coming back to the Democrats no matter what, too many blacks/browns (and women) in that party. Remember, everything political in this country starts (and often ends) with the legacy of Slavery. When you listen to people arguing against their own best interests, the first question to ask is "How do they think this will hurt black/brown people more than them?"

      You can criticize Clinton and DNC for triangulation, but consider that the racist/oligarch agenda (HW) and xenophobic agenda (Perot) garnered more than 56% of the vote total. Clinton only won by threading the needle and winning the plurality in most big states (HW only took TX and FL) and several southern states to get well past 270 EV. Without Perot and Clinton's appeal to the late Boomers and Gen-X, like me, recently out of college and working in ising non-union Financial services and IT

      rising industries (financial services, IT) and women, he would never have been able to win that election. He still tried to use his "mandate" to move us toward Universal Healthcare, which created such a vicious backlash from those racist/monied forces that it flipped the House and gave us Newt and hobbled him the rest of the way, much like Obama. That is also the real reason for the deranged Hilary bashing, the attempt to reform Healthcare to make it better for everyone. I feel like I have had a front-row seat to the same bad show over and over my entire life, beginning with the assassination of JFK and passage of Civil Rights in the early 60s when I was a mere tot. One step forward then 3-4 steps back, every time, as they have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into everything new, like a toddler.

      The poorest, most whiny, "pity me, I'm Black" rant I have read in a long time. Slavery was cancelled well over 150 years ago...how about taking personal responsibility for your situation and moving forward with your life?

    • @BruceHurley
      @BruceHurley 2 місяці тому

      You want him to take personal responsibility for being Black? Every Black person I know does take personal responsibility for their situation. Sadly, not every white person I know even acknowledges the continuing systemic racism that affects people of color. You're like those people who say to rape victims: that was in the past, you need to take personal responsibility for your situation and get over it.

      Reagan was a total asshole, but any Democrat expected that. The so called Dems Clinton and Obama should have done something for the middle, working class, and poor. That's the point. They were not real Dems, they were elitists. They blamed folks for the problem. Obama blamed Black people for their problems too. He did nothing for the Black community or working folks. Biden is the first President since LBJ to actually move the bar for working people, and to reframe the Dem Party for working people,. Obama and Clinton both created the reputation of the Dem Party as elitist.So, my dear sir, your analysis is incorrect.

      Oh Bullshit, look I am a Dem and have been probably for longer than you, but when our Dem Presidents do things that are bs I acknowledge that. Clinton was absolutely; responsible for NAFTA, he was also responsible for neglecting the working, middle class, and poor. Welfare Reform was total bs. Yeah let's get rid of jobs for working people and at the same time let's get rid of assistance for these folks who can't get work. Welfare reform destroyed a lot of working and minority families. Obama was in the same vein of moderate Republican, and didn't even support the Black community, didn't support homeowners during the Great Recession, and instead supported big banks and Wall Street, pushed through a bs Republican health care bill that was a gift to Big Pharma and Insurance Companies, etc. Two mod Republicans who sold out the working class. Biden is the first President since LBJ who has been a Dem for the people, and is starting to change the Party's reputation from elitist to for the people. God I wish we had more intelligent people who could do their due diligence, read, and be able to analyze complex information, rather than to spit out bullshit out of their ass. Our education system is obviously a joke.

    It's about damned time to see that most jobs ask for to much qualifications, even in what are supposed to be beginner / entry posts. And to help cut school drop-out ratios amongst boys the states & feds should re-legalize the old (1 master - 1 apprentice) teaching style and the traditional artisanal guilds to guide/administer the system as they used to. So trades unions still use the method but the rules & paperwork involved defeat the principle.
