most people watch bob ross for the sounds (his voice, the strokes on the canvas, beating the devil out of his brush, ect). so if you think about it, bob ross is the bob ross of sound.
My Dad was camping under Mt Saint Helens the night it erupted, and woke up to the ceiling of his tent right in front of his face sagging with ash. He and his friends canoe had filled up with so much ash that it sunk, and in the surrounding area cars were so crusted with ash that they flat out wouldn't work to the point where people would just burn their cars. After coming back to this song with that story in mind, all I can think about is people riding away from the erupted St Helens on ponies cuz they can't use their cars anymore.

I relistened the song after a while and it suddenly clicked with me - in all its horribly depressing glory. The businessman whose business has been ruined by a natural catastrophe, basically deciding to throw himself into death (Staying by Mt.Helen as it erupts as everyone tries to escape). Says how he's not in hell **YET**, riding into the sunset, etc. You would think that it's about a random natural catastrophe, but later verses show that it's a metaphor for humanity-driven catastrophes. All the climate change rigamarole ruining lives in grander scales. How the rich are going to hide away in the blimp of modern amenities and distractions, how it's NEVER going down even if the world burns down around it. But, it being a blimp, thus notoriously easy to take down, it's a grim catastrophe waiting to happen too. And the final things about how Mt.Helen (Likely a representation of the unfeeling, unreasonable catastrophes) won't listen and won't reason when it decides to erupt. A song about the helplessness one feels when confronted with existential dread of humanity bringing about its own undoing.

I think the meaning of this song is pretending everything is okay and replacing the negative feelings with saying that "It's gonna be a fine swell day" even if things are obviously awful 0:00 - 0:24 is about looking on the bright side of stuff and trying to learn more as a coping mechanism even of the obvious dangers. 0:25 - 0:37 symbolize wondering if things are going to change for the better or the worst.
Tyler D I’m not a HUGE Wurtz fan but I’ve seen his greatest hits, essentially...like his top 10 or 20 most popular videos, and this is definitely in the top three right behind “history of japan” and “history of the entire world I guess...”
I have a theory. I think the song is being sung by and optimist who is slowly realizing that the world is ending, since he stopped saying its gonna be a fine swell day at the gift shop part. I think that the blimp part is them being in a state of denial that they'll die at the end of the world here. And I think that at the end of the song where mount st. Helens starts singing is him dying in the end of the world, because there's no trace of him when it starts singing and it slowly gets static all over the screen, showing the camera is dying out. Thank you for listening to my rant about something that probably didn't have a deeper meaning.
think the end of the song makes it pretty clear when he sings about mt saint Helen he's singing about himself (feeling crazy and adventurous, that's why its so special and it dreams of puppies and it's filled with music) So if my snt Helen is about to blow up and turn everything grey it sounds like he's dealing with depression. He starts talking about how the dow Jones went to 0 and his employees quit. Idk what Wurtz financial situation was 4 years ago but I'm willing to guess he had to make lay offs. Then he sings about riding a pony, and says he's not in hell yet. So he may feel like he's going to hell or that his life is going take a turn for the worse soon, whether or not thats true we've all felt that at some point. Anxiety that the worst thing is right around the corner
After that he goes back to singing about mt saint Helen. Which is him.. and his gift shop. Which I assume means his merch store... That's all I can figure from it. He's saying he hasn't made any new merch in a while... Which would make sense if he was having money problems. right after that he sings about climate change which lends to the depression motif. He's thinking about how the worlds kinda doomed due to climate change while hes also contemplating mass producing t-shirts to sell so he can feed his family.
The most famous blimp in the world is famous for going down. So he's saying my blimp will never go down and the first thing we think is.. yea it will. And I think that's the feeling he's trying to convey. That sense of anxiety like there is something terrible just around the corner... Which is really crazy considering the year this was made
what the hell did I just watch this is so oddly specific, I'm concerned Bill may be a prophet and is trying to warn us of impending doom but can't because the only form of communication he has is through videos that seem like acid trips edit: came back to this and two people replied about me not having watched a Bill Wurtz video before.
I don't think you understand, June... this is Bill Wurtz we're talking about here he seems to be beyond our level of understanding not in a sense that he's more intelligent than us, but rather in the sense that he's speaking a whole other language he made a video called "shaving my piano" this time isn't like the other times this time is different.... *v e r y d i f f e r e n t i n d e e d*
I know BIll Wurtz doesn't give a crap about his song meanings but I like to think it's about a guy who is trying to still be happy even though his life is falling apart.
gonna clean my room (2016): "after the sun burns out / and the sky falls down" Mount St. Helens is about to Blow Up (2018): "when the sun goes down / and the sky burns out" interesting.
@catherine marshall bill wurtz is actually ness from earthbound. his lyrics are so sensational and strange because he has literally dealt with magic. but hey. that's just a theory.
Ain't the lava that'll kill you my friend, unless you're in the very near vicinity. Rather, the immense wall of ash and the global cooling period and subsequent crop shortages.
A friend of my friend died yesterday in an accident. This video is so comforting to watch. Higher powers take something from us sometimes but they always give plenty back. The volcano eliminates all life around it but then feeds the soil with invaluable hummus that will make generations upon generations thrive. It helps me believe that this sacrifice will somehow, sometime lead to something good. The vulcano may seem menacing but it also dreams of puppies and it's filled with music...
This feels less like a song and more like some cryptic prophecy of things to come.
Good job either way Mr Wurtz, keep up the excellent work.

There comes the one person who acts like they've taken LSD lmao
Patrick he said imagine taking it
It is.
Patrick Damn you must have a LDS if you can’t properly read that single sentence. Word of the day: Imagine.
I think the meaning of this song is pretending everything is okay and replacing the negative feelings with saying that "It's gonna be a fine swell day" even if things are obviously awful
0:00 - 0:24 is about looking on the bright side of stuff and trying to learn more as a coping mechanism even of the obvious dangers.
0:25 - 0:37 symbolize wondering if things are going to change for the better or the worst.
I think you are reading too much into it.

His melodic stream of consciousness finally had a bit of a format change. I like it.
This guy is a genius!
Melodic stream of consciousness is my new word.
Tyler D I’m not a HUGE Wurtz fan but I’ve seen his greatest hits, essentially...like his top 10 or 20 most popular videos, and this is definitely in the top three right behind “history of japan” and “history of the entire world I guess...”
You mean just this video? I love all his videos
You should check out the "improv" section on his website if you like that kind of stuff.
D: nooo
think the end of the song makes it pretty clear when he sings about mt saint Helen he's singing about himself (feeling crazy and adventurous, that's why its so special and it dreams of puppies and it's filled with music)
So if my snt Helen is about to blow up and turn everything grey it sounds like he's dealing with depression.
Which is really crazy considering the year this was made
Sometimes I like to take a step back and realize just how insane the concept of internet is

This song will for a while tho
A friend of my friend died yesterday in an accident. This video is so comforting to watch. Higher powers take something from us sometimes but they always give plenty back. The volcano eliminates all life around it but then feeds the soil with invaluable hummus that will make generations upon generations thrive. It helps me believe that this sacrifice will somehow, sometime lead to something good. The vulcano may seem menacing but it also dreams of puppies and it's filled with music...
