    Wow, that was the Mother Lode of oysters! You didn't have to worry about leaving some, -- no ladder would reach to some of those at the top, lol. Here's to plenty of great mushrooms this autumn, too! Oyster mushrooms are so good -- and lots of others, too. It's amazing how many edible mushrooms there are.

    Great video, thanks for sharing! Definitely not a flower or plant. Unlike plants, you can take the entire fruiting body and it will not harm the underlying mycelia. The mushrooms will return next year in the same location, regardless of complete or incomplete harvest.

    I am ordering some pink oyster mushroom plugs, and while I am doing most of them in bottles... I would like to do some outside. I am planning on putting a few plugs into a living Hackberry tree to see if it will thrive. But I wonder if I would be putting the tree at risk. Do oyster mushrooms accelerate the decline of a tree?

    • @gardenfork
      @gardenfork  7 років тому

      if have seen oysters grow only on dead or dying trees, so i wouldn't sacrifice a live tree. find one that is already dying, be good to hear how it works for you. thx!

    • @charlesjurgus
      @charlesjurgus 7 років тому

      Thanks, I will adjust my plans. There are an over abundance of Hackberry trees bordering the northern end of a ~200' by ~200' meadow I am turning into a garden--slowly, little piece by little piece. So I am clearing out some of the trees to promote the health of the others. I will leave a few tall stumps. Thanks for responding.

    • @gardenfork
      @gardenfork  7 років тому

      if you drop some trees, try leaving a few 3-4' logs lying on the ground and inoculate them. or you can put the logs in a cool basement. also consider growing winecaps, they are very easy to grow on woodchips, from what i understand. thx!

    • @charlesjurgus
      @charlesjurgus 7 років тому

      Thanks for the suggestion... I figure I'll just create different micro-environments and collect as many plants and mushrooms as I can find use for... or interest in. I planted dill in a pot and monarch caterpillars ate the whole batch, but I've never seen so many monarchs around here... so next year I'll plant a whole section of raised bed with it. I am also in the process of retrieving Blue Spruce from two different yards where the owners want them gone. My plan is to have an evergreen border to whatever degree I am capable of the work. There are dozens of trees available, but only for the rest of the season. They range from 7 to 12 feet and I am doing the work myself with only shovels and ropes. I just started my third tree today. I would like to document for UA-cam, but I am too busy to film. Anyway, thanks for your time and consideration, I will definitely look into the Winecaps.
