Bob Dylan - She Belongs To Me (Live HD Footage) [Birmingham 1965]

- Here's a video I pieced together. I used outtakes of D.A. Pennebaker's documentary "Don't Look Back," then overdubbed the footage with crystal-clear soundboard recordings released on "The Cutting Edge: Collector's Edition." This was recorded at Birmingham Town Hall in Birmingham, England on May 5, 1965. Enjoy this gem while you can!
"She never stumbles, she's got no place to fall" -- pure poetry that says a lot in a few words.
My favorite lyric as well. I have known some of these, not all female.
What a line!
❤
The pure balls of this, just to stand there in a spotlight and deliver such simple beauty.
Crazy how massive this song sounds and how subtle he appears to deliver it
Very true, I'd never thought about it like that!
@@SwinginPig Did you notice at the classic St. Francisco press conference in 65, how he puzzles the most the big guys, who are so baffled at this small and subtle elf getting all that attention and popularity, which should have gone to them, the big solid ones, ahahahahahahahah; oh how they were deceived from ' his ghostly appearance ' ; this guy would always 'carry two pistols and four sharp knives' - savage thin angel, wild knight of spades, sharp Jack of hearts, likely to be broken ...
Amazing like he sees um and I see were my place is always abit back and far behind here and it's her's world
@@elifonkonsolakis2521 I ll guess it hurt them so baby blue for a knickle he will boo hoo he's the magicion stupid butts .pay attention he speaks his songs well too
Ok people clue me in wats up with whatever you saying I only know words speak the words tell me in words not ariyhmatic so wat I'm dumb man spell like like in the alfibet ya know go on
I have been a Dylan fan since i was 14. Very few people have made an impact to our society as Dylan has. His legacy will live in for generations.
When Bob talks and sings people listen. Very few people can attain to that. What a legend and gift to society.
He’s wrote everything there is to write man ! He’s almost to good
This was the first Bob Dylan record that I ever bought. I was hooked forever! Fabulous!
In those days a performer could do a song you might never have heard before and you would still enjoy the show.
I hope this guy gets his big break, he has real potential.
I hope he passes the audition!
Lol
that's funny :)
I don’t know. He will probably be what they call a flash in a pan. He doesn’t seem to have much of an imagination. I’m a pretty good judge of character so you can bank on what I say. I’d like to talk more about him but it’s time for my boot heels to be wandering….
@@RSVPini hard not to be ironic on seeing the early manifestations of a genius
I was in the audience at Birmingham Town Hall for this concert. At one point we noticed a figure standing in the shadows at the end of our row of seats, watching the stage. It was Joan Baez.
WOW!!!
Those two go back a long way together -- to Greenwich Village, NY.
Joan has always been my hero...Bob is a" GOD" Just being himself...✌️
Must have been a bit embarrassing, according to John Cale, Dylan wrote this song about Nico
I was there with little Annie sitting in the galley wherever in the world you are ? - you were seriously great fun to be with! Plus nearly 60 years ago!
Now dedicate the song to my Gilly, a real artist who don't look back and has everything she needs and proud to steal anything she sees!!!
This is why I (cautiously) love YT. Never heard this version prior. it's fantastic.
This is just so great. Brilliant vocal.
She's got everything she needs, she's an artist
She don't look back
She's got everything she needs, she's an artist
She don't look back
She can take the dark out of the nighttime
And paint the daytime black
You will start out standing
Proud to steal her anything she sees
You will start out standing
Proud to steal her anything she sees
But you'll wind up peeking through her keyhole
Down upon your knees
She never stumbles, she's got no place to fall
She never stumbles, she's got no place to fall
She's nobody's child, the Law can't touch her at all
She wears an Egyptian red ring that sparkles before she speaks
She wears an Egyptian red ring that sparkles before she speaks
She's a hypnotist collector, you are a walking antique.
Cristiano Malheiro Thanks for the lyrics:)
Bow down to her on Sunday
Salute her when her birthday comes
Bow down to her on Sunday
Salute her when her birthday comes
For Halloween buy her a trumpet
And for Christmas get her big drum

He's just an amazing artist and encyclopedia of lyrics and in different versions and ways in his career awesome the songs he has and incredible they are
that's badass especially the last 3 lines
i was there - biggest experience of my life
Well he can really play with harmonica can't he.... My favorite guy in the whole wide world... Love you Bobby
Seen this clip about 400 times now. Pure magic
Thank you Swinging Pig! A very special treat ....
Egyptian red ring. I like the inclusion of the word "red" in this live version. Such a nice little detail, the word is absent in the album original recording.
Great observation, it does improve the song.
@@jayraskin thank you. Yes I agree, and also at this point it becomes black-and-white. I mean, if the Man says it is red, it's supposed to be red. Without hearing this version, it was up to our imagination what color the mysterious ring may be. I like when things are clear and simple sometimes, although I love using my imagination, too.
can never get enough of Dylan concert footage, exactly why I subbed
Love his music
I agree I been going crashing within last 2 days since I heard my professor daughter in another room lisiten to when I get my hand on u and I love that text it but I got it was another artist sing Dylan song from the 60’s❤
I really love these early videos of Dylan, brings back a time long past. Thank you for uploading this Gold 💖💖!
You’re very welcome!!
OH! He gots everything He needs/
He's an Artist/
He doesn't look back//😀😀😀
Bob always...unique. My younger years were totally built around Highway 61 and Blonde on Blonde...thanks SP for this footage 🎶🎶🎶
Mine too!
And doesn't it make the memories of those times so sweet?
First time I saw/heard Dylan was this same year, 1965. Still have the poster from it and it's framed on my wall.
His voice was so different then. Wonderful ❤️❤️
Yes he's totally unique 😀
It got better every decade
@@PB111627 It got worse every decade!
I think that’s what chain smoking does to you. I read somewhere he smoked like 4 packs of cigarettes back then
This is magnificent.
I believe that the Beatles were in attendance to this show... They loved Bob Dylan's music
He deserves all the love in the world. If only I could give it to him. X
To right Patricia I agree totally he his A1 😎❤️🏴
The first rapper, this song is clearly about a "Bad bit*h".
I feel like Subterranean Homesick Blues and It’s Alright, Ma could be classified as rap to some degree. “Folk rap” I suppose!
A great song! Describes several women I've known. An easy way to make a song longer is to repeat every other line twice. I saw a number of great concerts at Birmingham Town Hall. The acoustics were superb. I missed this particular concert. Tickets for Dylan were almost impossible to obtain.
That harmonica! Oh my Bobby could bring these songs into existence on stage, just sheer performance art.
Terrific footage Swingin. I know it takes time to pull it all together so thank you for doing it~ 💖
@Olive Eisner of course just a year later in 1966 , the year of his majestic best , his harmonica bending and shaping had reached the realms of cosmic otherworldly -ness.
Feck me Mr Pig, this is brilliant beyond words. What a vocal. Many thanks.
Very powerful great version of such a great song, thank you so much for sharing !
Great work on this video sequence of one of Dylan's classics. Love this one!! 💜💜💜
Bob Dylan is so fabulous in his own way of singing to his. audience.
With guitar and harmonica, ( does he have the harmonica holder trademarked, by chance?) he plays with such contentment, in this song.
I am a conservator, and so related very well to this wonderful piece of music.
I clean the darkness away and show the light of the original intent; just as Bob dies as he’s on stage solo, playing the music he composed with such ease. 🎶🎼🎵. Thank you Bob, Well Done 🎶
Speaking through the keyhole down upon her knees. ❤ That part paints a picture that always makes me smile😊
Is it speaking through a keyhole? I always thought it was peeking thru a keyhole. I kinda like it more if it is speaking actually
Yea and it's "down upon your knees" not her knees 😊
PEEKING through a keyhole down upon YOUR knees.

Quality, indeed. My compliments to the chef.
Bless my soul.
Great job putting this upload together, it's perfect. Thank You for sharing 💖!
You did excellently in rerecording "She Belongs to Me." I wish a lot of Dylan's live versions sounded as clear as this song does. You did wonderful work on this song. My hat is off to you.
Greatest. Of. All. Time
Oh man sister TY SO VERY MUCH FOR SHARING!!! Wish I could play harp like that I’ve always loved that!!! 😍
What a poet.
What do you admire most about Bob
@@MarcosBryant-lj8zihis swagger and poetry
it seems like Bob is breathing his life into the song..with that harmonica play..yes it sparkles...
What a beauteous boy.
F**king love the turtle neck, leather jacket combination.

Thank you Bobby from the bottom of my ancient and grown up heart.
Grand👌 Echo does good to the Beautiful performance! Haven’t said anything about the lyrics yet.... Poetic!❤️💥

So perfect, so perfectly Bob, As always Many Thanks SP :-)
That look he has. "I know who I am. You will hear me."
That's so true!! Lots of confidence.
f**ing unique genius, mind-boggling genius, no doubt about it.
I love this song

The year I was born!!
He just was the best of the best.
Great 🤗❤recording isn't it hoing to be wonderful that a new generation will discover bob dylan with the film
wow ,thank you !put much thought into this and got a masterpiece!
I saw Bob perform in February 1966 at the Long Island Garden Arena. He did the same set as the recordings from Royal Albert Hall and Manchester in May of 1966. The sound of the electric set was often chaotic as the place has terrible acoustics and was very echo plagued. The acoustic set though was perfect. Bob knew his songs well before he was singing and he paid with courage.
FANTASTIC! TRULY FANTASTIC!!! THANK-YOU SWINGIN' PIG, SO MUCH!
Great job, man. Very nice!
pardon me...i just got BLOWN AWAY! Is he human or an alien? hes like a black panther.....so much power but so much tactile softness beauty and delicacy.....could use that power but has perfect control of it.......not too much not too little just right....bang!
YEAH YOUNG BOB YOU ARE THE BEST
I can't explain why this was, but in 1965, Bob Dylan had so much charisma that he could blow his nose and it would seem profound. The only two I can think of to compare him with are Brando when he was young and Mick Jagger in the late sixties.
Good stuff, thank you 😘🙏🏻
my favourite dylan song of all time

I was there, absolutely brilliant. The following year, when he went "electric" I saw him 3 times and he was again brilliant. Lost count of times I have seen him since. Have to admit some concerts have not been so great but others have been outstanding. The greatest poet music will ever hear.
You’re a walking antique 💜
His hair is also there singing ... I love Bob Dylan's way of beating around the bullshit .. just letting it all hang out .. 😎😋
Thank you!
Babyyyyy paint me a Birmingham ♥️
Even his eyelids keep time
Great song
my favorite Dylan song
Nicely done thanks!
Super cool! Thanks.
My personal opinion is that this is the best version of the song. The visuals of him singing helps a lot also, but harmonica style is more like a steam train whistle and his guitar strumming instead of picking doesn’t take away from the lyrics.
I'm with you. The live performance here really brings it to life and the harmonica is perfect. Amazing.
Grande fantastico Bob
Beautiful performance. Love that Pennebaker (rip) black and white. The “crystal clear” audio seems to be primarily the guitar mic with vocals/harmonica leaking...little, if any direct vocal mic. Odd
History ❤❤❤
Bob Dylan is the greatest popular music artist of our time in whatever persona he create ages.
what a genius!
Good job, mate. Only thought it was an edit from the loss of 'front on' towards the back end. It starts as if Dylan doesn't know where it might go, and after harmonica dalliances ha ha he starts to nail that rhythm.
Genius personified
i am your song I am belong to you BOB
there's a man on stage -- he's little suspect of something, eyes darting way to the right & wearing an expression like, "get that spotlight out of my face"; then there's another man singing his song, playing the guitar & harmonica. They are the same person...
Beautiful
Can this cat write a lyric or what
Nobel prize-worthy lyrics
Doesn't matter whatever he sings it's great, thankfully still, and hopefully many more years, miraculous new music.
LOL
Yep❤
Belong only if the person is fully in.
I have a blast listening to it great catchy never forget song
I was watching and listening based upon the Title of the Video. Haha, I just had gotten to the point at which I'd realized what was up when I began to look more deeply. HA! I saw it was compilation! The Universe~99. The Ol' Gypsy~1
It just doesnt get any better than that.
Harmonica blues 💙 👌 😎 chills
Una obra maestra... de que otra manera expresarle a una mujer que es de su pertenecia...
I watched this on bbc Saturday night tv,recorded it on an old Grundig.
