    I loved this video so much!! I wish you had gotten into wax before me, this would've helped me out so much in the beginning!! Good job!! One thing, the highest any lightbulb warmer goes is 25 watt, some people have changed the light bulbs out for 40 watt bulbs which I think is crazy. I tried it, thank God I was home it melted the whole inside and I had to throw the warmer out. I only use hotplates now.

    • @RandomFavoriteThings
      @RandomFavoriteThings  10 років тому +1

      I did not know that people were changing them out for higher wattage bulbs…that does seem like a bad idea! That is lucky that you were home when it melted the whole inside….that is so crazy!

    • @rubymist43
      @rubymist43 6 років тому +1

      I have several warmers and have yet to change out light bulbs but I defitely would use ONLY the wattage bulb that the unit suggests. All my warmers work wonderful with the original bulbs anyway so I wouldn't even figure purchasing a higher wattage.

    I loved this video. Very helpful. I don't think your wrong with hiding your name on Facebook. This is just a hobby that you like and you don't have to associate it with no one else. I've been interested in melts but haven't really known as much as I learnt in this video. Thank you for taking the time doing this .

    Recently I found out from a Scentsy friend, use 3-4 cotton balls to soak up old wax. Then just throw them away. I never thought of this option and works very well.
    The freezer way, thats also a way I never thought of. Neat idea also!

      Lisa Kluka, you can also use the wax soaked cotton balls as fire starters when camping.

    This is just a little piece of information for whoever stumbles across it... not only did Yankee start using the term "tarts," it is a registered trademark of theirs. Obviously we in the community can freely call melts whatever we want and I also use "tarts, melts, wax" etc. interchangeably. However, Yankee is the only company who actually refers to their melts as Tarts (at least legally), and any other company who did so would probably be gone after by Yankee.

    Loved this video! And I would definitely love to hear about the different wax vendors that you buy from. I'm relatively new to wax, although I've been a great lover of candles for years. I can't wait to hear more about the candle's wick-less cousin :) I never knew that you weren't supposed to wait for most of the tart to evaporate so that was something interesting to learn.

    • @RandomFavoriteThings
      @RandomFavoriteThings  10 років тому

      I love that term, the "candle's wick-less cousin"! That is so cute and clever! I am glad that it helped a little, I was confused at first myself too about the wax not evaporating!

    Hi you guys, thank you for the comments and clearing that up on the light bulb warmers…did not realize that they should be 25W but some people try higher wattage bulls (which does sound like a bad idea). I want to reply to each comment, but work is kicking my butt this week and I am exhausted….need to upload a video tonight too! I will do a vendor video, but it may take a week or so, I want to really think through what I want to say about the vendors. Have a great night you guys!

    Thank you so much for this video. I am new to the world of wax melts. You answered all the questions I had and even some I hadn't thought of yet. hehe... so ty very much.

  • @RebelLaurel
    @RebelLaurel 10 років тому

    I think this video was well done. As for warmers, I melt my CFTKR in a 16w hot plate, and a 25w light bulb warmer. It takes longer in a light bulb warmer to melt, but it smells just as good. Well I think so :P
    Most light bulb warmers come with either 20 or 25w light bulbs depending on the size. Both Scentsy and BHG warmers have these wattages. Some people replace the bulbs with a 40w and I think that is tempting disaster personally.
    As for your thoughts on vendors, I would like to see them. I know that I, in the past, wanted to do something similar--but you are correct, the potential backlash scared me off. There are some vendors that I dislike that others love, some I love that others dislike, and that's okay. Everyone's experience is different. I would enjoy hearing yours, because you are right everyone needs to try it for themselves, but knowing some one else's opinion is good too.
    I think I've rambled enough for now. Thanks, and have a great day!

    • @RandomFavoriteThings
      @RandomFavoriteThings  10 років тому

      Thank you for the post, and you did not ramble too long at all! I did not know that CFTKR would melt in a lower wattage hot plate, or a bulb warmer. Hmmm, now that gives me more options! I will do a vendor video, but maybe will only highlight the positives of each vendor, and people can just pick ones with the qualities they are looking for. Not sure….still so very afraid of backlash!

    • @RebelLaurel
      @RebelLaurel 10 років тому

      Thanks. Yes I do it in my 25w lightbulb or my 16w hot plate for the best results. I've found that I don't really like my 24w hot plate with most vendors.
      That sounds like a plan. Yeah the backlash is what scares me off of doing those videos. I've filmed a dozen of them, but never put them up because of that.
      At the same time though, I kind of don't care about the backlash, because my channel is for me and my opinions. And those giving the backlash probably have vendors they don't like. I don't know, who knows maybe I'll get some gumption back and do it. Just know that if you do it, I won't take a strike at you :P I'd still be interested, because even if our opinions are different, there's always something new to learn :)

    • @RandomFavoriteThings
      @RandomFavoriteThings  10 років тому

      I would love to see your video on vendors! You are right, our channels are for our opinions, and as long as they are shared tactfully with no bashing, I think they should be fine! I really do like your honesty in your videos, I guess we will see how it goes!

    Yes your video is a big help, I have just started buying wax and really wanting to start making them I have made a few wax tarts and they have turned out great as far as the smell I haven't gotten to melt any of them because of the cure time
    I have started buying wax from different venders so I can get a feel of what's out there I have listened to a bunch if not all of your videos I live them you are quite entertaining lol in a good way lol
    All of your post has been helpful I started out buying Bella candles which was a waste of good money I still have two big ones I thought I would keep just I case the power went out haha they just didn't have the throw I was wanting so I started watching u-tube and I have learned a lot threw watching
    So Thank you can't wait for your next video I have a package coming today from SSNT I'm going to do my first wax haul live for you to watch and get your input
    Thank you

    What a great video! You worked long and hard on this, I can tell! I appreciate it so much!!! You and Madeuplikeadoll are creating a wax addict in me!!! What are your thoughts on wax expiration? You said something once about wax still being good after a certain time??

    • @RandomFavoriteThings
      @RandomFavoriteThings  10 років тому

      I think that the paraffin tarts last quite a long time, I have heard of people have them for well over a year and they still throw. The ones that are 100% soy have the shortest shelf life…I have heard around six to eight months. The para-soy ones depend. All of my hauled wax is less than five months old, but I will let you know how they do as time goes by!

    Love your channel and I know YOU know so much about all kinds of candles. I'm just playing around with making some, and thought I would ask you if you can top a candle with ...say... chocolate kisses, chocolate chips? I know marshmallows are a NO NO... I've heard people topping candles with coffee grounds......?. Do you know of any that are safe to put on top of a candle? Thanks so much! Keep the videos comin!!! xo

    Great video! I have another question though. Do you happen to know any European vendors? I checked your vendors video, but many don't ship to Europe or it's pricey (shipping I mean). Thank you. :)

      404-equivalent I have not heard of any European vendors….I am there may be a few on Etsy…that is the only place I can think of off the top of my head.

    What would be the best way to go about the wax stuff I'm new to it but it all looks amazing haha! Like for example who do I order from first and I'm always watching you tube videos of people and they always always have lots of wax do they just keep ordering every week or month lol or probably over time just collect it all?

    • @RandomFavoriteThings
      @RandomFavoriteThings  10 років тому +1

      I actually have a recommended vendors for beginners video…if you check my playlists under "Informational Videos" you will find it there. People collect wax pretty fast, depending on how much they want to spend. My wax collection got large pretty fast, and I will never be able to melt through my stuff fast enough before it goes bad, so I destash periodically and send wax to my family for free too! When I first started I think I was ordering three or four times a week…seriously an addiction!

    Seems a waste to just chuck the wax. Can it be recycled into a jar candle , by adding a wick ? Just save several tarts together ☺

    Do you know of any generic facebook groups for wax melts? Like ones that are not tied to a particular vendor.

      Yup, there are two big ones that I know of. One is The Wax Addicts Club, and the other is What Smells So Good.
