British D-Day veteran gives emotional speech in France

- More than 30 veterans gathered at the British Normandy Memorial for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Two veterans read from a poem and cited words from a famous war epitaph.
After wreaths were laid, three cheers were given for the veterans. The Marseillaise was played, followed by God Save the King. During the British national anthem, the Red Arrows conducted a flypast with their red, white and blue colours.

I respect this generation, looked after a lot of these gentlemen and women in hospital, the war was their youth and early 20’s. Very humble people, they had seen hell and were happy for a peaceful life, Pleasure to look after.

This poem always brings tears to my eyes. My father fought in WW 11 in the Canadian army and my uncle always said "he came home a different man"...he used to laugh.....wonderful to hear this veteran speak those lines.
We are with you ! I am so grateful and i wish i met you and be with you to learn so many great lessons , so many people are lost these days and they need your precious advices and drive and optimism, we never forget your effort and we thank you, so emotional

Many many thanks to each one of you veterans for your incredible service/sacrifice on the battlefield of Normandy 80 yrs ago this very day June 6, 2024. It’s unbelievable that you did what you did. War was never a plan of the Almighty Gods government. But rt now I’m utterly grateful for you saving our country’s democracy. 1 of the veterans stated that freedom isn’t really free. Look at how many lives of the veterans were lost! 💔😢That’s really sad but true. May Almighty God remember you all when the resurrection takes place in reality. Amen 🙏
Those veterans also has great faith, American last Godly generation, endured so many difficulties. Not like now Western soldiers strong bodies, well equipped, nutritious, well training but mentally spiritually broken, they forgot God.
Very rarely WW2 veterans have PTSD, they fight more dangerous brutal and yet survive. So sad so many soldiers never go to war and yet have ptsd.

The last 20yrs they never spoke if the horrors of the Second World War but on Remembrance Day they would all meet up and go their local pub to he first time I had ever heard grown men cry in absolute despair 😩 😔 I had never seen my dad cry before 😢 it was so heart wrenching I am and always will be grateful to our war vets for the sacrifices they gave do
Much for us to have our freedoms let’s keep that in mind when people are now trying to take it away from us with our culture and history just remember what they gave up for us, God bless them all

Only "in the judgment" will "the saints" come to understand the rules of engagement between Christ and Satan that allowed GOD to intervene for some of those men as He did for Desmond Doss on Okinawa.

The greatest losses were suffered by the Soviet Union - 26.6 million, Germany - 6.48 million, Poland - 6 million (more than half of them were Jews, victims of the Holocaust), Japan - 3.76 million and India - 3 million. The vast majority of casualties were among civilians. Compare - human losses in the main countries of the anti-Hitler coalition amounted to: in the USA - 400 thousand, Great Britain - 370 thousand, France - 600 thousand people. China lost 35 million people during the long war with Japan.

Those veterans know they might not be back again, some are in their 90's ,one veteran was 104 years old. Their faces tell a story a life lived. The ones in the cemetery are still young, forever with their comrades. Thank you for your service 🙏

Imagine being close to or past 100 years of age , and for 80 of those years they’ve lived with the memory of that day and the months that followed for a full 80 of those years !!!!
How were they changed in their families eyes when they returned? There was no recognition of PTSD back then and for their families sake , they resolved to bury their emotions, buckled down and helped rebuild our battered country ……goodness, they were the ULTIMATE generation because how the hell can anybody follow that ?????? 🏴🇬🇧❤

It’s great all the major politicians around the world attend and so they should. However, I cannot help but feel they are hypocrites. Look at all the homeless veterans on the streets, the politicians should put their money where their mouths are and give our heros a proper home to live out their lives safely in. After all, war is the failure of politicians and our heros have no choice but go where they are sent They put their physical and mental health on the line when they serve for each and every one of us. They should be treated las the heros they are.

There were separate services. This is for Gold Beach where the Brits and Free Poles landed. The Americans had their own service at Omaha.

My grandfather was a German general who notably oversaw the Atlantic Wall. I was in Normandy in June 2015, 2019 and 2024 as well as in Bastogne (Belgium) in December 2019 for the celebrations of these battles. I am always moved to see the veterans of the allied countries. I think this war could have ended sooner if intelligent German officers had shown more courage.

must be really sad to know that you sacrificed and served, loosing os much in the process, just so you can witness, 80 years down the road history repeating itself. yet again, the west united behind a four word acronym ideology (ie. nato) so to colonize europe and beyond. once again, an ethnicity is being erased from the continent. once again, the slavs must stand up to protect their people, lands, and humanity against such evil. though in 1945 the germans lost their nation, they were able to conquer an entire western hemisphere quickly thereafter...so to now attempt, with their allies, once again to deliver a draconian, vile imprint onto the rest of the world.
